Nokia E71 Smart Phone Review
techradar.com Reviews
Published on: 7/30/2008 2:00 PM
Touching is very much in vogue these days, but if you plan to do a lot of typing, whether it be texts, notes or even novels, there's still no real substitute for the tactile response of a full, hard-key QWERTY keyboard. And it's the keyboard that dominates the Nokia E71. Smaller than its predecessor, the E61, Nokia has still managed the trick of making it perfectly easy to use, with nicely curved rubberised buttons and bright backlighting which, thanks to a clever light sensor, only kicks in when you need it....read the full review

4 of 5 Like an e61i with JATO rockets Wednesday, April 01, 2009
Dean from Dallas, TX

I'd been pretty happy with my old e61i, but was seduced by the slightly smaller package and fast 3G radio of the e71, which runs basically the same software with a few generational improvements. Overall, it's an excellent match for my requirements, and its a joy to have a phone that hasn't been deliberately crippled by the marketing morons at AT&T. The e71 also adds a standard micro-USB data port, plus a mostly-standard micro headphone jack (smaller than the iPhone jack). The tethering and bluetooth functionality on this phone are perfect, and I have it working with my PC, Mac, and Ubuntu Linux netbook. I also use the built-in SIP VoIP client daily with the excellent Gizmo VoIP service. The location functions and builtin GPS are surprisingly fast and reasonably accurate, outperforming my Garmin handheld in most ways. Cons: The camera sucks, leaving everything bluish and out of focus. No worse than the e61i, but no better. The flash is mostly useless. Nokia firmware support for US models is weak; I had to use Nemesis to change the product ID in order to upgrade from version 1 to version 3 firmware, which is something most folks won't do. This is Nokia's biggest weakness in the US market. I suspect they're still being bullied on firmware by the severely dysfunctional carriers in the US. The e71 tries to clean up Nokia's messy access-point selection model, but fails. I do not understand why they can't just have a "default" access point setting for applications that works, instead of requiring each application to select access points independently. As a consequence, I would not buy this phone for my mother. But overall, I'd much rather have this e71 than the very deliberately crippled iPhone.

5 of 5 A hell of a phone!!! Tuesday, March 03, 2009
Tusijode from Bronx Ny
A quick and effect message is always best. I bought this phone for my girl friend as her valentine gift. Shes into gadgets but they have to be white. Whats amazing about this phone is how beautiful it really is up close as well as the protective case it comes with. With her AT&T account 3g card this phone freaking flys. It impressed the hell out of me when we accessed the internet and the ease of it. Very cool features in it such as WIFI help access the internet cheap and effectively. So no need to get a data plan, it has built in wifi. Also the pictures are really clear but you have to have a little steady hand. The sound is crisp clear and the programs are endless. Overall im so impressed i want one for me. If you like programs and different scenerios on a handheld then this phone is highly recommended. Nokia offer really cool features other phones do not. So a High 5 for this phone.

5 of 5 Open Source Joy Sunday, December 14, 2008
DS from CA
This phone is a lot faster than the earlier nokia E6x devices. Its actually fun to use and keeps up. (except the time i downloaded 9000 headers from Gmail!) 3.5G on At&t, works as fast as a wlan. if only one person was design the mechanical portion of this device it would take them atleast 10 years. the size by its capabilities is amazing. it must be a single chipset that does everything! its a beautifully crafted. its the shiniest thing i own. Wlan works great. although i am kinda disappointed by VOIP rates to mobile phones they more than the calling card i use.

5 of 5 Best smart phone ever Tuesday, October 07, 2008
A Customer from Salt Lake City, UT
This is the best smart phone I have ever used. It is more capable than any Palm, Blackberry, or Apple device that I have used previously. The UI lacks the refinements of the iPhone, but in terms of capabilities, flexibility, and available software, there is no comparison.
