4 of 5 Cool Little Gadget Saturday, September 29, 2007
Bigbocarat from Boca Raton, FL

AS always Buy.com had super fast shipping. The Nokia 770 is a cool little gadget. I'm not a power user like some of the others but keep it on my night stand to quickly check traffic in the morn, or weather, movies, CNN, stock charts etc before bed. It sets up quickly out of the box and whats nice is in 30 seconds your on line wirelessly after hitting the power button. I'm in my 40's and my eyes arn't as good as they used to be for seeing closs up so either I put reading glasses on the see the small text or take out my contacts and hold it up close. Not a bad compromise for its quick use. The unit will let you magnify the screen but I seem to prefer seeing the whole page at one time.

5 of 5 770 Tuesday, September 25, 2007
A Customer from Arizona
I was looking at smart phones with WiFi, but they were all too big for a pocket phone. I do a lot of x-country motorcycle riding and I like to check my email, but I didn't want to pay a big premium for email serice or haul a huge wifi phone around - the 770 was the perfect solution. It picked up my home networkno problem and finds open wifi spots for me all over the place. It is small, uses a cheapie 12 v charger and talks to my blue tooth phone when necessary, all free. I can even watch a movie in my tent! Great little gizzmo for my application.

5 of 5 Great little wireless web tablet Tuesday, September 25, 2007
A Customer from Chillicothe, OH
I probably wouldn't have given this a shot except that the price ($139) was so good. But I'm glad I bought one. The local ISP has recently been pushing a wireless downtown initiative which makes pretty much every eatery, coffee place, or bar a hotspot and a number of additional spots give a wide coverage. I, and most of my neighbors, have wireless setups at home too. The Nokia was easy to set up (including security) and gets a strong signal most everywhere. The battery life is ok, recharges quickly and comes with rechargers for ac and dc. My wife uses it as a quick reference tool and I generally carry it around in my shirt pocket for quick access to the net. It has mp3 capabilities and software, a lean (but decent) web browser and is mmc card expandable. All in in a great deal at the price and a handy tool when you don't want to tote the laptop.

5 of 5 An awesome value for the price... Tuesday, September 25, 2007
msherman57@yahoo.com from Staten Island, New York
I have had this for 6 weeks now, and love it. I mostly use it as an e-book reader (FBReader), and I often listen to internet radia while reading. It has great battery life (I've gotten 7 hours out of just reading), and the browser is pretty good (I downloaded Minimo, however). Now, if it only had a faster processor, more memory, and a Cell phone built in...

4 of 5 Nokia 770 Tablet Tuesday, September 11, 2007
maverick from Irvine, CA
Reviews looked good, so I jumped. So far ( 1 month) it has picked up all email, connects well at hot spots, and I now have even set up for two email sources. The music player is exceptional, even the tiny speaker is good. Hooked it up to Logitec portable speaker system and it ROCKS!. Have not put anything yet on the memory card (actually upgraded this right away to 1 gb) but useful feature. Screen is really clear, and every detail is readable. The zoom feature is good. As others have said, initial boot up time is a bit slow, and still have not figured out all graphic downloads on web (may stick with text) but if you want a convenient web browser, email reader music and video player for a steal (seems like Apple may have used this as model for new iPods) this is it. Battery life seems ok, usually under normal use around 4 hours. I suspect there is much more it can do later, but for now it at slightly more than an MP3 player has amazing screen and features. Final note. Just because Buy says it has it in stock, don't expect that they will ship right away. Mine took over a week even though it said "in stock".

4 of 5 Nightcap Friday, August 31, 2007
A Customer from Wichita, ks
Device is easy to use and setup the only knocks against it how the browser will sometimes shutdown all windows when clicking one of them and won't let me check my gmail. It also lacks a default text size while browsing. Still renders the web well and worth what I paid since I use it for the throne and bedroom when I'm going to sleep (replaces a lot of books, do online libraries now). Weaker than a laptop but better than most data devices.

5 of 5 Great product for the price. Tuesday, August 28, 2007
Ray from Upper Valley, NH
I bought this internet tablet before my 3 weeks trip to Asia, so I can still access my emails and get in touch with people without bringing my big notebook. It served the purpose well and is quite fun to use. There are times that the words on screen are very small to read, but thank goodness there is a zoom button to make them larger. Also there are lots of freewares around for you to download, like ebooks, games.... Well, this is a truly great deal. Don't miss it!

5 of 5 Great Hotspot Mobility Wednesday, August 22, 2007
JB from VA
Saw priced at $130 and thought I would give it a shot. Great deal for "pocket" size Internet access. Have hit a number of free Wifi hotspots and has worked flawlessly. Internet via Bluetooth cell phone with a data services plan. No need to carry a laptop! Web surf, Web mail, online chat ... all have been great! Renders real web pages, not WAP or mobile with reduced function. Screen appearance is a bit small and can be hard on the eyes with some font sizes, but easy zoom button on the top, just then end up scrolling more to read at easier font size. Touch screen via stylus or finger. On screen keyboard pops up for easy data entry and then disappears when not needed. Found battery has been good more than 4 hours ... no worse but also not much better than many laptops. Some additonal open source apps are available to add functionality. VNC client and RDP client for remote access to a couple of servers I run ... works great! Have found problems with some sites like Hotmail not wanting to play well with embedded Opera Web browser. I now leave the laptop at home when I take trips yet still have full access to Internet.

5 of 5 great for email, even AOL Tuesday, August 21, 2007
A Customer from Cary, NC
Have had the 770 for a couple of months. Works just as advertised right out of the box. Just want to add that you CAN use this with AOL mail. Just search for the AOL classic mail site and use that. Search for it yourself - the link that came up when I tried to use the regular AOL mail site did not work.

4 of 5 Good but needs flash update Sunday, August 19, 2007
A Customer from Redlands, CA
The 770 would be an excellent product if I could get flash applications, such as YouTube videos, working correctly. It appears from what I read that the more expensive Nokia tablet has these updates via the latest OS, but saddly this OS update has not been officially made available. Overall, the 770 is fast on my home wireless network, allows me to surf most anywhere and is in general a nice Internet device to use.

5 of 5 Nice unit for the price Tuesday, August 14, 2007
A Customer from VA
I found the unit to be a good buy at the price. Takes a little time to get used to it and find all the extras that can be used with it. I have the wireless working very well and the bluetooth to my phone works well also. I ordered a bluetooth GPS unit and it works good also, don't forget to turn off the GPS access in the program when you want to use the bluetooth phone data. Still working on all the map stuff. Just take your time working with the unit and all should go ok.

5 of 5 Fantastic as XBMC Remote Tuesday, August 14, 2007
elmojo@hotmail.com from Snow Hill, NC
I bought this expecting it to be a toy that kinda worked. However, what I got amounts to a UMPC. It runs Linux, so it's super hackable and expandable. I use it as a remote for my Xbox running Xbox Media Center (XBMC) and it rules! The startup is rather slow (15-20 secs) but once it's booted, you can just put the cover back on and it will go into low-power standby. With moderate use, the standby seems to last me about 6-7 days, and the battery recharges to full in just a few hours. I put it on charge overnight about once a week and never think about it otherwise. I haven't bought one yet, but I've heard that adding a Bluetooth GPS module and free mapping software makes this a great GPS navigator that is still useful after your trip is over. Pros: Small, great screen, runs Linux (!), tons of free software available, fun to hack/mod, great battery life, optional GPS unit makes it a killer GPS nav. Cons: The RS-MMC cards are a bit expensive, but you only buy them once. Takes a while to boot, but the standby is great. WiFi range isn't as good as my Laptop.

5 of 5 Fun little tool... Tuesday, August 14, 2007
Bobbo from Austin, TX
My girlfriend bought this for me for my birthday. After reading some reviews I tried to cancel the order but it was too late. Good thing, because this Tablet is great! The 2006 software update appears to have fixed all the bugs which were the cause of all the (2005) negative reviews. I took it out of the box and was able to use it immediately. Very intuitive and not hard to learn at all. While driving around looking for houses, it was interesting to see just how many homes use an unsecured wireless access point. But anyway, there is one negative aspect I need to report; the connection to whatever streaming music link you may be listening to drops for no apparent reason. The screen shows it to be "buffering", as in trying to reconnect. It never does. The only way to get the music to stream again is to disconnect, then reconnect to your wireless access point and press play again. Small glitch in an otherwise great product.

4 of 5 Brilliant but small screen Tuesday, August 14, 2007
Alan from Wilton CT
The Nokia 770 is the rare product where I have to say this thing has got to get bigger, at least twice as big. I have been using this often to check my email, movie reviews, my NetFlix queue, keep up with the news... Its just very handy to have the Internet instantly available on the coffee table. I just need to see more page on the screen. The rocker panel to control magnification is helpful to an extent. I also like how you can use the your finger to move the page around. Nice chess game comes along as a bonus. The javascript support is one of the few disapointments but yahoo and google email have modes to handle this and f you have a hotmail account then you jsut plain out of luck.

5 of 5 Excellent Product Sunday, August 12, 2007
JT from Bosto, MA
Excellent product, I want to find the way to upgrade it to version IT 7.0... And if Nokia can make it read Microsoft Power point, that wiil be great. Beside that, this product can't play the 2hrs mpeg4 movie, it's only can play some small movie, I think because its limited internal memory... It's great for student to carry with them to study pdf note file anywhere.

3 of 5 Versatile, but sluggish........ Saturday, August 11, 2007
dosto233 from Ventura, CA
As many reviews had stated when this product first came out, the main thing driving you crazy will be how sluggish it is. For whatever reason the ARM processor Nokia chose to put in this thing really cant cut it for anything else beyond basic daily tasks, and sometimes not even that. This only feels worse for impatient users. As far as the design of the unit itself and its Operating System, (Debian Linux based) is quite nice. Huge beautiful screen, provides full browsing experience on browser (despite lack of Flash support); all in all Id say if you just happen to use the right combination of basic daily apps and online content as I do. This thing can be pretty darn handy with the expandability and perks that would usually cost a lot more, BUt unfortunately if you are NOT this sort of user, you will be lost in its slugishness and slightly unusual approach to things like program installation and how prone it is to crashing.

3 of 5 Good when a laptop is too big Saturday, August 11, 2007
A Customer from Las Vegas, NV
This is a good device to use for Internet browsing when a laptop is too big. The screen is better than a PDA, but it is still awkward to use for web browsing when you are used to a keyboard and a mouse. Even so, web browsing was 1000% better than using the Treo's Blazer because this browser uses both Flash and Java (with some exceptions). Connecting it to the Internet was very easy both through my Treo 600p (using Verizon dial-up broadband) and 802.11b. The e-mail application was difficult to set up, and it proved much easier to use gmail or other webmail services instead. It does fine as an MP3 player and graphics viewer, but the memory is skimpy. I recommend buying a 1GM mini-MMC memory card to supplement the memory. For more features, you may wish to pay more to get the Nokia N800, which I have not tried.

5 of 5 Great for the money! Saturday, August 11, 2007
E.F. from New Mexico
While many of the "professional" reviewers gave this a bad review, it is NOT merited! This is the coolest little gadget, and we have been very happy with it. We are currently without a wi-fi connect to use his to connect to the internet, when we are near a wi-fi, it connects with such ease, we have had no problems at all. The battery life is wonderful too! We've not been watching movies but I imagine that uses allot of battery. We purchased a bigger memory card & expanded the memory and Ram, so we can max out the performance. This is NOT a laptop, but you can do allot of basic things on this. It seems mostly like a toy, but can me used as a tool as well. Well worth the money esp. for the price here at Buy.com, buy has the best prices.

5 of 5 Nokia 770 is a good value. Friday, August 10, 2007
Rick from Bristol CT
I purchased this product primarily to listen to internet radio. It looked like it had all the features I was looking for: Wireless B and G, browser and media player, and reasonable battery life. The unit fulfilled my expectations but I never dreamed it would be (for me) such a spectacular product. Because the 770 runs a version of Linux there are numerous open source software programs that can be downloaded to the device. I have the ability to bring up a remote desktop of other systems using a program called VNC and I can bring up the 770 display on other computers in the house. I can transfer files between the 770 and other computers using programs that support secure FTP. I can send and receive voice over IP (VoIP) phone calls using Gizmo. Of course Nokia does not support these programs but the user community is always willing to help answer your questions. I don't use this tablet for video playback. I heard it was not the best (slow) for video. The few video files I did try to play worked fine. You will probably want to get a bigger memory card. Be sure to get the "reduced size" MMC card (RS-MMC). The full size card will work but will stick out of the tablet. This tablet is a great value for the money. ($143) It's successor is the Nokia 800 which is priced around $350 or more.

5 of 5 Excellent for its inteneded purpose Friday, August 10, 2007
A Customer from Oceanside, CA
I have had it for a week and love it! I use this all the time at home on my wi-fi network to quickly check my email and read the news... at the table, on the couch, or on the patio. And it is so easy to carry to the local coffee shop. It has great battery life; 5+ hours. Nokia has obviously tweaked a few things to improve battery life since its release in 2005 and the cnet review. This device is not perfect, but what tech product that is 2 years old is. If you want to watch youtube videos, sorry it won't do that due to limited flash support. Buy the Nokia N800. But there are video and radio sites the 770 does work with. I have not tried it, but you can connect to the internet if you have a phone with bluetooth and an internet connection. REMEMBER this is an Internet Tablet for surfing the web. It is not a phone, but you can make internet calls. It is not a computer, but you can play games, listen to music, and look at pictures. It is not a PDA, but there are a few limited calendar programs to download. For $140, it is well worth it.

5 of 5 A superb value at the closeout price Thursday, August 09, 2007
Trobador from Amesbury MA
I picked up one of these for $140. I expect that the introduction of the Apple phone plus the availability of a newer Nokia tablet lead Nokia to dump these. <p> Well, it's a pretty good tool/adult toy, and I can recommend it at the closeout price. <p> The killer app for me is the Voip -- internet phone capability. I installed Gizmo, a Skype clone that works on this unit. Allows me to call landlines in France for 2 cents per minute. Voice quality is quite good, you just talk at the unit and it talks back, no additional headset required. Really that function is worth the price of the machine for me. <p> Number two advantage for me is the internet radio -- I have bookmarked a dozen stations, they come up fast and clean, I am playing them via a connector out of the Nokia headphone jack through my component system and quality is just fine. The supplied headphones deliver good sound as well. <p> There is a media streamer app so if you have D Link or Windows Media connect on your main computer it will stream music for you from your main machine onto your tablet -- have not yet tried the video stream. <p> Less exciting is the Internet browser, it is just too inconvenient to be of genuine use except in cases of dire necessity. When you get to my age (65) less (font size) is not more. Also the browser is kind of stripped down, AOL hates it and will not let me retrieve my mail, which was my erstwhile reason for the purchase in the first place. There is an email program. I tried to set up a Google gmail account but got tied into knots with POP protocols, and Google does not have specific setup help available for the Nokia <p> But I like the phone and the radio so much that I am happy anyway. If those are the main things you want then the 5 stars are deserved. __________<p>_____________________________ <p>more comments, a month down the line: <p> The device has a tendency to crash and reboot more than I would like. What's this I read about Linux being stable? <p> The add on Linux ebook reader is excellent. I tried reading a book once on a Palm Pilot, the Nokia device is infinitely superior -- bright, clear, legible text. <p> I am slowly getting used to the web browser -- squinty it may be, but it does have its uses. <p> I added 2 GB of memory, and the device appears to run faster -- only part of the card available for the memory cache however. <p> All it all I still rate this five.

4 of 5 Awesome screen good performance limited support Wednesday, August 08, 2007
A Customer from Gilbert, AZ
I got this tablet because I was intrigued by the features, especially the screen. I was very impressed with the high resolution screen (twice that of the PSP). Small text is easily readable. The home screen is OK, the apps are not arranged that well, but they function fine. My only gripe is that the operating system will not be upgraded anymore, you'll have to upgrade to the 800. But for the price you can't beat the performance and screen resolution. Wireless performance was great, only lacked a few advanced features. I was able to connect to a RAZR phone via bluetooth to get online. Great product overall.

3 of 5 Convenient, but not very quick or versatile Tuesday, August 07, 2007
Vishal from Champaign, IL
The main reason I got it was that it was on sale and I just wanted a small, lightweight web browser for when I was out on the town without needing to lug around a laptop. On that score, I have no major complaints. It's pretty good at finding hot spots and I was able to configure it to automatically connect to my wep-enabled home wireless network without any difficulty. Panera and other public locales were also a snap. The display isn't bad and the full-page mode helps to make small print more legible as does its zoom capability. So, as a web browser, it's not bad at all. The downside (which for me isn't a big deal) is that it isn't useful for much beyond simple web browsing and POP3 email. If you want to do processor-intensive tasks like watching video or multitasking between different apps then you may need to look elsewhere. Although it appears to be functionally capable of doing quite a bit, it's WAY TOO SLOW to be responsive enough to be usable in that regard. In fact, it's not very perky in general. Still, as I said, if all you want is a convenient web browser for reading news, weather, maps, and basic email functionality, then it's a decent option. Overall, I'm satisfied but I wouldn't pay full price for it. I paid $139.99 for it and that seems like a good price for what you get.

5 of 5 Wonderful Product Tuesday, August 07, 2007
art@artbulla.com from San Felipe, Baja, Mexico
Everything I hoped. I am on solar power in Baja, Mexico, south of San Felipe, and it is a hit on my energy storage to boot my Desktop or Laptop, and this little device allows me to read and send emails, check bank account, surf internet, make internet calls with nothing "hot" except my satellite modem and Netgear router. OS crashes once in a while, but so do my computers, nothing serious and not frequent enough to seriously annoy. Very pleased. New software coming online all the time and there are very active message boards on tablet computing. Plan on purchasing a bluetooth keyboard and expand the memory card to 1 gig. That may solve the crashing problem as well.

4 of 5 Cool Device - Not for everyone Tuesday, August 07, 2007
A Customer from LA, CA
The device is great for surfing the web.<BR> -Bright screen<BR> -Large Screen<BR> -Relatively Snappy<BR> -Great Wi-Fi connection ability<BR> <BR> The device has a following of programmers that develope little apps for it as well. You can download them easilly through a very well-organized and simple downloading application. But overall I find many of those apps not-so-useful. It's an internet tablet...it does that well. Don't expect it to replace your home phone, or become your new iPod.

4 of 5 Good, cheap, hackable mini computer running Linux Tuesday, August 07, 2007
Dylan from Aliso Viejo, CA
The default applications are pretty good for everyday use, but the power of this device comes through its extensibility. Hacking it is not for everyone, but it certainly provides a useful platform for a beginner to explore. Main uses: Web browsing, TuxPaint for daughter (3 years old), eBook reader, Scummvm games (e.g., Secret of the Monkey Island), mapping with GPS Pros: good community support, great screen, good free software, pocketable Cons: a little sluggish sometimes, crashes once in a while, wi-fi connection needed for using it at its full potential

4 of 5 Cool little device Tuesday, August 07, 2007

This item worked right out of the box. It's a low cost way to access the internet. The only caveat is that you need to be near free wireless, which is not always an easy task.

5 of 5 Great Internet Device for Around the House Tuesday, August 07, 2007
Zach S. from Lexington, KY
If you wish to have an easy to use web browsing, email checking, chat and music playing device, then the 770 would be a most economical choice. The system is running on a version of linux, so there a lot of cool hacks that can be found at numerous sites by searching for "maemo hacks" in a search engine. I would definitely recommend getting a 2GB memory card with this though, as the NVRAM seems to be used for running applications as well as storage - so the more applications you have installed, the more likely the larger ones will unload themselves during use. This aside, the web browsing, email and chat are all prepackaged and work just great. It typically keep the tablet in the living room and it is a nice lightweight, compact tool to check out the web with. It also connects to the internet through my Cingular phone with ease, and I was able to connect to my GPS receiver and install the "Maemo Mapper" application - which turns the 770 into a GPS device. Buy one of these and have fun tweaking it!
