| No Word From Tom is about how music can change and grow over time; how a song like "Idle" (from Rabbit Songs) can evolve from the hushed chamber-folk arrangement on the album into a rousing live track, how a purely instrumental track like "Cincinnati Traveler" (from Eveningland) can have a lyric written for it, and how that song, in turn, can become a new song altogether called "The City and the Traveler." "The New York group has defined a sound - dreamy and detailed, intimate and horizon-eyed..." The Washington Post

Not quite a "new release," the group's first offering for the Nettwerk/Waveland label is a collection of outtakes, covers, demos, live recordings, and rarities recorded between 2000 and 2005. Does the band still sound like the Cowboy Junkies? Yes. But that's not a bad thing. | | There's a range of originals, traditional songs ("All the Pretty Horses"), and covers (R.E.M.'s "South Central Rain"), but the collection feels anything but rag-tag. The combination of the band's intimate country atmospherics, Dan Messe's fine songwriting, and lead singer Sally Ellyson's warm, lullaby-style voice are thoroughly appealing, sustaining a warm, wistful vibe throughout. | Engineer: Gary Maurer; Dawn Landes; Tom Gloadly; Joe Hogan |

| | Professional Reviews | | Entertainment Weekly (p.65) - "Sally Ellyson's pristine soprano nicely parses the country-soul classic 'Rainy Night In Georgia'..."Dirty Linen (p.64) - "Hem's music has the cool, dark austerity of Cowboy Junkies, but Sally Ellyson's voice is breathier and, if anything, sadder than that of Margo Timmins." |

| | Bio | | | Hem The New York collective of musicians that make up Hem have, in two albums and only a few years, mapped out one of the most alluring soundscapes in all of contemporary American music. Hem began as a low-budget but passionate collaboration among a few friends and has grown over time into the nine-piece collective it is today. Their dedication to exploring the American Songbook and their resolve to add to it has led Hem to this exciting new album. Following this album?s release in February 2006, the band?s anticipated next original record will arrive in the summer of 2006. Look for North American and UK tour dates in the upcoming months.
