When David Shannon was only five years old, he wrote and illustrated a story in which an unruly little boy breaks all of his mother's rules -- he jumps on the beds; he chews with his mouth open; he plays ball in the house. Any child who is tired of hearing his parents say "No!" will readily identify with this boldly illustrated, comical story.

Annotation:
In one busy day, an energetic boy named David causes all sorts of mischief--from coloring on the walls of his house to picking his nose, from tracking mud on the carpet to running down the street in the nude. All the while, David's mother tries to get him to behave by saying such things as "That's enough, David," "Settle down, David," and the ever-popular "No, David!" Illustrated with acrylic paintings.

Praise
Kirkus
"The illustrations are wonderful, full of good-time trouble-making tomfoolery, borrowing on the energy of children's drawings and the determined strokes of their early attempts at lettering." 08/01/1998

Author Bio
David Shannon
Author and illustrator David Shannon holds a B.F.A. from the Art Center College of Design. He has illustrated the works of such authors as Isaac Asimov, Robert D. San Souci, and Jane Yolen. One of Shannon's most popular works is one he both wrote and illustrated--the picture book NO, DAVID. This book was inspired by events from his own rambunctious childhood; in fact, he wrote what was to be the first draft of this book when he was still a child--the text consisting solely of the two words he knew how to spell at the time: "no" and "David."
