The AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED lens features Nikon`s Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass, Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and enhanced Vibration Reduction (VRII) to ensure the best images. Optics have also been perfected for use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. The Zoom-Nikkor lens offers 70-300mm (4.3x) zoom performance, and is suitable for various telephoto shooting opportunities, particularly in sports, nature and wildlife photography. When used with a Nikon DX format digital SLR, the picture angle is equivalent to what would be experienced with a 105-450mm lens on a 35mm. SLR Advanced Nikon engineering has given rise to a compact lightweight lens design that offers outstanding optical performance and excellent handling characteristics. The new Nikon Vibration Reduction (VRII) system enables users to take substantially sharper handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower* than would otherwise be possible. 5 of 5 Great lense! Sunday, January 04, 2009
    Tracy Stapleton from Jax

This is a great lense to have on the side. I origionally started out with a 18-55mm standard lense that came with my D40x, and this is a valuable addition to my set. It allows me to take close up shots of people on stage at my church. Be forewarned, this is not a lense to be taking profile pics of your friends, as you will have to stand roughly 4 feet away from them to get the upper half of thier body. On the otherhand, if you do take those types of pictures with this lense, they will come out crystal clear, as i have been known to take these types. Great for outdoor photography, and studio portraits. Now I am just waiting on my SB-600 as an intermediate level flash gun, as I broke my internal D40x flash. Back to the lens, this is a great one, and if you are upgrading from 18-55mm to have this lense on the side, you may miss the zoom level of 40-70mm, as the 40-55mm shots tend to not turn out too great... Perfect lense though to have along side of the standard lense that comes with the D90.

5 of 5 By Far The Best Lens I Own! Friday, November 23, 2007
    Pete D. from Albuquerque, NM
I have had this lens for about 2 weeks now and I must say I am very impressed with it. I have tried 2 other 70-300 lenses and have had marginal success shooting at 300mm as I do not have a totally steady hand. With this lens I can see how unsteady my hand is but when I focus in on the subject you can see the lens take over and steady the subject and I am getting very sharp and clear pictures at 300mm hand held. If you are not getting sharp and clear photos I Highly Recommend this lens. It is worth every penny you pay for it. I am not very technical I just tell it as it is.
