Built on a custom application of Nikon's innovative EXPEED digital image processing concept and incorporating the precision optics of a Nikkor lens, the Coolpix P5100 is built to realize optimum performance and maximum image quality.
Class-leading imaging ability begins with a full 12.1 effective megapixels of sharp resolution and a new digital image processing engine that reproduce the finest details and subtlest tones with precision and clarity, even when taking advantage of sensitivity settings as high as ISO 3200. (ISO 3200 is available only for image sizes of 5 megapixels [2592 x 1944] or smaller.) In addition to a variety of automated and scene modes, four advanced exposure modes offer both enthusiasts and more advanced photographers greater personal control over the camera. 5 of 5 Best "first" digital camera I could hope Monday, June 02, 2008

I was into photography many years ago until it became to expensive to process all the film I was shooting. The digital technology eliminates that expense and I am really enjoying this camera. I received the camera and promptly added a 4GB memory chip to store the 12 mpixel pictures. What a great camera. The manual is clear and well written, and the features are great.
I have used the presets for both beach and indoor settings (there are many more), and they produced great results. Best of all, the battery that came with the camera (I also got a spare) lasted for 1 week+ from the first charge (after 80+ pictures).
We took the camera to the Bahamas on vacation and never had to re-charge or change batteries.
I took a 8 minute video with the 5100, and it was kind of HUGE when downloaded to my computer (84 MB).
So far, I am delighted with the camera and the results.
I would strongly recommend this not only for value for money, but also quality. Nikon produce a first rate camera. Was this review helpful?
