Ben Stiller leads an all-star cast including Robin Williams and Dick Van Dyke in this hilarious blockbuster hit. When good-hearted dreamer Larry Daley (Stiller) is hired as night watchman at the Museum of Natural History, he soon discovers that an ancient curse brings all the exhibits to life after the sun sets. Suddenly, Larry finds himself face-to-face with a frisky T. Rex skeleton, tiny armies of Romans and cowboys and a mischievous monkey who taunts him to the breaking point. But with the help of President Teddy Roosevelt (Williams), Larry may just figure out a way to control the chaos and become a hero in his son's eyes. Boasting jaw-dropping special effects and laugh-out-loud moments, Night At The Museum is your ticket to nonstop fun!

Night at the Museum - DVD

Right around the time a monkey urinates on Ben Stiller's head, I came to terms with the fact that Shawn Levy's high-concept comedy Night at the Museum would choose the lowest road possible as it searched for scatological humor. That Levy -- the pandering director responsible for this year's atrociously unnecessary Pink Panther installment -- would stoop to such levels doesn't surprise me....read the full review

As much as I like Ben Stiller, quite frequently I find him in roles where the director refuses to reign Stiller in, choosing to allow Stiller's ability to continue to ad lib a take until the gag has been drilled into the ground. It's my surprise, and Night at the Museum's credit, that this is not one of those movies. Director Shawn Levy (The Pink Panther) focuses on his story, clearly taking advantage of Stiller's affinity for improv, but clearly knowing when to pull the plug and allow the story to move on. ...read the full review

Family fantasy of top notch caliber. When I saw Night at the Museum projected on the big screen, I found myself having a good time in spite of myself. I remember walking into the theater and wanting to enjoy it, but also wanting to not enjoy it too much. Why I had that approach I have no idea. Despite those intentions, my defenses were quickly worn down and I found myself sucked into this delightful family fantasy....read the full review

With a cast featuring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, and Ricky Gervais, one has a right to expect something amusing from Night at the Museum. Oddly, not only is the movie unfunny, but it rarely tries for laughs. The only jokes in the production belong to Ben Stiller, and they fail at least as often as they work. Night at the Museum isn't just not funny, it's not fun. There's some impressive computer animation, to be sure, but it's eye candy, and a steady diet of any candy becomes nauseating after a while. Night at the Museum fails to offer much in the way of sustained entertainment unless the stagnant story of a loser Dad redeeming himself in his son's eyes is likely to cause paroxysms of delight...Night at the Museum will play a lot better to children than adults. I suppose there's a upside to that. Families can attend the movie together. - James Berardinelli

Reel.com 8 of 10
Night at the Museum starts with a great premise: What would happen if all of the exhibits in New York's Museum of Natural History sprang to life after hours? As long as it sticks with that story and the one about the three elderly security guards pulling one over on the newbie, this silly comedy delivers...Also raising the comic stakes and threatening to run away with the movie are the three senior citizens whose frisky behavior is not exactly geriatric. Admittedly, Rooney's shtick can get tiresome, but Cobb is smooth, and Van Dyke's timing is as sharp as ever--although the fact that director Shawn Levy waits until the closing credits to let the man dance is a crying shame. Van Dyke is an artist and a living legend; let him strut his stuff...The exhibits are fantastic, creating the perfect setting for the magic that is unleashed at night...Watching the bones of a T. Rex play fetch just never gets tired. - Pam Grady
