Notes & Personnel Info | | The nominees for 2005's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards cover relative newcomers (Ryan Cabrera and Skye Sweetnam), as well as tried-and-tested stars, including Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, and Avril Lavigne. Keys's entry, "Diary," featuring ultra-smooth backing vocals courtesy of 1990s superstar R&B outfit Tony Toni Tone, is an appropriately sophisticated after-hours confection, in contrast to AMERICAN IDOL winner Kelly Clarkson's high-energy "Miss Independent," which shows the talented singer at her passionate best. Fantasia's epic ballad "I Believe" is an emotive tour-de-force, while Good Charlotte contributes the catchy up-tempo rock of "Predictable." Jessica Simpson's remake of Berlin's 1980s hit "Take My Breath Away" further cements the star's pop credentials, and Lavigne's forceful delivery of "My Happy Ending" marks her as a vocalist with staying power. In addition, Switchfoot's swaying anthem "Dare You to Move" is a poised entry from a Christian band with pop smarts and rock moves in abundance. |
