As in any GPS it helps us get to where we are going and hasnt failed us yet. This product does have a few problems. When it says left or right they both sound like left the back up camera is fuzzy and the update does not provide enough road map updates. It has very few buisnesses listed and the update actually cause a few software malfunctions. Dont get me wrong Im not returning it but I think Garmin is way better. Was this review helpful?

GPA and backup camera were simple to install and worked as it was supposed to. Battery run time is a little short but since we always plug it in to drive it is not an issue. MP3 player is a nice addition. Menu and navigation is simple and have yet to open the manual. While others complained about flickering backup camera ours works steadily. Was this review helpful?

Pro: Backup camera gives a wide field range and when you get closer to a vehicle or object, the picture is great. Routes are generally shortest route for the gps unit. If you take a route that is a bigger highway than the shortest route, the gps will change to the new route. It gives 3 warnings for a turn. One at 2000 feet, 500 feet, and just before the turn.
Con: If your hearing isn't perfect, it takes awhile to understand some nomenclature for roads. Instead of state highway 12 it says W, I, 12, for Wisconsin highway 12. My wife needs reading glasses so she can't read a dash mounted gps when she is driving. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 not recommended Friday, August 29, 2008 A Customer from Pittsburgh, PA
I usually do not write reviews, but this time I feel it is my duty. I must say quality assurance for this company is extremely poor. The first time I used it, I thought it was quite easy to use. The UI for the GPS function was well designed (but you cannot listen to MP3 while using the GPS, and it sometimes blanks out probably thinking that the backup camera has turned on). After a couple of months, the device started making ticking sounds and then ceased to work. I had it replaced, but upon arrival the new device would freeze after a few touches on the screen. I had it replaced again. But after a couple of weeks the device started to repeatedly reboot during operation. Now I cannot even turn it on. This is a great disappointment. I had to pay for the postage, insurance, and delivery confirmation every time I returned a product. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 How to update firmware Sunday, August 17, 2008 A Customer from Vancouver, Canada
I did not realize at first the back-up camera would take serious work. Had my dealer install it. Works fine.
I am trying to update the firmware but can't. There are folders within folders and I do not know which files should be in the SD card. Tried different ways but no success.
If anyone knows, please help. francis.andrew@ubc.ca Was this review helpful?

Bought this unit as a replacement for a GPS that had died and it came with extra features way beyond what I imagined.
This thing puts me right on the money in navigation by mapping the best route and keeping me informed as to when I should arrive, but also has the backup camera to add even more value. Simple to install and operate, I recommend a high-5 for this one. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Buy at your own risk Thursday, July 31, 2008 Waymon from Jennings, Mo
While the features of the Nextar 14-BC GPS are a reason to buy it, don't buy at the retail price elsewhere. The unit constantly freezes in any mode and you have to shut down and restart. The maps are out of date (June 2005) and no time projected for updates, fortunately i'm not doing any trips this year.
Theres also no way to plot a trip on the computer before loading to unit. The usb cable that come with it is useless since you can't move things to or from it. Any updates work off an SD card. The best thing about the unit (and reason i bought it) is the mp3 feature, but alas you can't use it in conjunction with the GPS, one feature at a time. One caveat the headphone jack is not the standard size (tech support didn't know this)you need a 2.25mm plug so plan on trip to purchase an adapter. Also, to get the best sound quality purchase an FM modulator if you have a cassette player in your car. Another negative is you have redo the setting every time you power it off from the back, even if battery is fully charged. Have not connected backup camera yet.
Overall the only reason to purchase the unit is the mp3 feature due to the constant hangs and out dated maps with the GPS portion. If you're looking for a GPS buy a Garmin, even they're discontinued models still get map and software updates. Was this review helpful?

Great item. The wireless camera makes installation easy. Having this on the back of a van makes it much safer when around children. Was this review helpful?

I am pleased with this GPS with the backup camera. I haven't installed that part yet, for some reason I thought it would be a lot easier. I may have to take it to a shop and have it installed(I don't want to mess up my car wires) Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 1 of 5 Not worth it Tuesday, July 08, 2008 A Customer from Central Alabama
Although it is not too difficult to install that is where the positive ends. The Backup camera cuts in and out constantly while backing up. The GPS unit maps are out of date and when you visit the mapping service to report the error the roads are shown correctly - these are not new or uncommon roads - they have been there for 10+ years (4 lane US highways). The GPS doesn't announce the street to turn on until you are right on the intersection. The writing is so small it is difficult to read. The windshield mount is so week the unit bounces up and down constantly, even after tightening up everything that could be tightened. Save your money get a separate wired backup camera and buy a Garmin GPS Was this review helpful?

1 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 great value Thursday, July 03, 2008 A Customer from Oconomowoc, WI
The biggest thing going for this GPS is its value.
Basic GPS functionality but includes a wireless backup camera.
Nothing in the market can beat this right now.
Installation was pretty straight forward.
One negative is the reliability of the wireless connection between the camera and the main unit. In many cases the camera doesn't switch on or the picture is very noisy. Nextar put out a firmware update and once I installed it reliablity improved a bit.
Navteq map is good but a bit old. Other Nextar products have newer map then this. Also some issue in finding point of interests.
Overall I still like it and it worth every penny. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Wish I knew I would have drill to install Tuesday, June 24, 2008 Paula from Atlanta, GA
Truthfully I am unsure of the performance of the Nextar GPS/Backup Camera because once my husband said he would have to drill a hole in the car to install I told him to halt installation to see if I could figure another way. But it appears to be a solid product outside of that.... Was this review helpful?
