5 of 5 Greatest Remote Extender! Wednesday, November 04, 2009 A Customer from Southern Maryland
I have used a lot of extenders. All have sucked. Have to press keys many times to get one press to work.
This ufo works 100% every keypress. The base is downstairs at the opposite side of my house and never misses a keypress. Works great with my Radio Shack 16-2116 remote. I can put the 16-2117 back in storage. The 2117 has it own extender that works like crap. I really expected this extender to not work.
Don't look at any other extenders, get this one now! You won't be disappointed! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Awesome Friday, August 14, 2009 Jason from Baltimore, MD
Hard to believe there is something out there like this. My cable box is a good 20 feet away from my TV, but with this device, the I can control the TV and cable box (COMCAST) without issue. Easy to install and setup. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Greatest Electronix Device Ever!!! Saturday, May 30, 2009 David from Raleigh, NC
Awesome device. Cheap, easy to use, and works exactly like it's supposed to. I struggled w/my H20 DirecTV box but found a review that answered the problem, for the most part. Set it on 'A'. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works Like Magic! Saturday, May 09, 2009 A Customer from Massapequa, NY
I'm using this device with a Motorola QIP6200-2 HD converter for the Verizon FIOS TV service for the last several weeks. It's working great with my configuration.
I have two TVs connected to the 6200 HD box, an HD set in one room via HDMI and then an SD set in the room next door using coax. I also have two remotes for the box since my second box is controlled with a Harmony 880 programmable remote. The room with the HD set is controlled with the standard IR remote and the room with the SD set uses the remote extender RF extended remote. The extra remote avoids a potential problem with multipath signals when using the remote extender RF and the infrared signal at the same time (in the same room; I had read about the potential problem from other posters).
While I'm using the extender with a TV that's only one room away, about 15 feet and a single wall, I did test the remote extenders range to all areas of the house and was able to control the TV from the furthest reaches including the opposite side of the house in the basement.
Setup was easy. I charged both batteries for less than 36 hours (~28hrs) in the base station charger then swithched the battery in the transmitter sleeve with the spare. In order to charge both batteries at the same time, one must be in the AAA size transmitter sleeve but I read someone mention that the one in the sleeve may charge more slowly hence the switch. The spare battery stays in the charger when not in use so you always have a charged battrery ready to go. My remote uses AA batteries so I had to install the RF transmitter into the supplied AA size sleeve (that's battery into transmitter sleeve into AA sleeve).
The base station contains an IR emitter and there is also a wired emitter included which I used. The wired emitter plugs into the base station then attaches over the IR reciever on the face of the device to be controlled with self-adhesive. If you want to control multiple devices you can obtain an optional multi headed IR emitter snake or use the base station emitter from in front of the equipment.
This device works great for an unusual configuration like mine but also is ideal for situations where the equipment is hidden away in an equipment closet. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Next generation remote extender Thursday, March 19, 2009 A Customer from harrison NY

Gave it a 4 for performance only because I could not get the included separate led transmitter to work perfectly no matter what angle or how close/far I put it to the sat receiver eye. But the good news is that the flying source base is located about 15 feet away and at about a 20 degree angle from the sat receiver eye and that works flawlessly! Works with both the 6 year old Directv Tivo remote and the newest one Directv sells. By the way, put sat music on the speakers outside and started walking into the woods behind my house. The remote kept changing the channels up to 130 feet away! Pretty amazing distance. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 We Love It! Wednesday, February 25, 2009 Jon Gibson from Normal, Illinois
This device works exactly as described in it's product literature, or maybe even better. I am now able to control the stereo in my house which drives my outside speakers. I can do this while relaxing on my back deck or sitting in my swimming pool.
My backyard property line is located over 100' away from the stereo system in my house. So, just as a test, I took my remote to the very back corner of my lot and was able to adjust my stereo system volume just like I could if I was standing 5' from the stereo. This is a very good product. I work in the technology field and it takes a lot to impress me. This product impresses me.
Installation was very easy. I am going to order an additional unit to control my Motorola DVR Set Top Box. This will allow us to adjust the DVR without the necessity of leaning forward and pointing the DVR remote directly at the DVR. It is necessary that we lean forward like this due to the way we have the furniture arranged in this room.

5 of 5 Works like a charm! Sunday, February 22, 2009 A Customer from Cherry Hill, NJ
I was looking for a product that would enable me to control a Comcast Explorer 8300 HD cable box and Sony DVD player remotely. My Toshiba HDTV is mounted on the bedroom wall and the other components are located in the closet on the other side of the wall. I initially did a search on Best Buy and saw that the products they carried were expensive (>$100) and required purchasing another universal remote. Then I stumbled upon the NG Remote Extender. At first I was highly skeptical. Then I saw the hundreds of positive reviews on various sites. I figured for $34, I would check it out. I received the product in 5 days from Buy.com. After charging the battery, I replaced one of the AA batteries in the Comcast remote with the RF transmitter. The receiver was installed in the closet on top of the cable box. Instantly, I was able to control all components (TV, cable box, DVD player) using the Comcast remote. This product works flawlessly, just as described. Highly recommended!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Awsome product Wednesday, February 11, 2009 A Customer from Amarillo, TX
This is an awesome product. It's almost like magic. you charge the batteries for a few hours, pop it into the remote, place the UFO in front of the device you want it to control, and wala, it works from anywhere in the house. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. I tried both Radio shack brand and Jenson brand and that don't even compare. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product Friday, February 06, 2009 A Customer from WA
Usually i dont write reviews but i am so impressed by this that i writing the review. I have been using this for past 4 months now and it works flawlessly with my universal remote controlling my TV and cable box.
However a power reset was required once to bring it to work again. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Highly Recommended Thursday, January 29, 2009 A Customer from Illinois
After receiving this product it does take a day or so to charge the batteries but then it only takes a couple of minutes to set this up and works great. I have a flat screen hanging on a wall and the comcast cable box hidden behind the wall. The remote works wonderful from anywhere in the basement (I have not tried to use it from anywhere else in the house yet as I don't really need to). I can't believe how easy it was to setup and how wonderful it works. I would highly recommend this product to anyone in the same situation of needing to hide a cable box. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 This extender is the best kept secret out there Saturday, January 17, 2009 A Customer from Redmond, WA
I was looking for an IR repeater so I could put all my AV components in the next room. I have a cable box, Xbox 360, and media center. I was looking at traditional IR repeaters when I ran across this thing. It was hard to believe it even worked. But there were so many other recommendations, I gave it a shot.
Well, the device is just awesome. I just plugged the battery/RF module into the cable box multi-remote. It worked flawlessly. I couldn't believe how simple and easy it is. I did have one issue with using the battery in my xbox 360 remote. But I was able to set my multi-remote up to work with the 360 and it is able to control it fine. So it seems the default 360 remote might not work.
All and all, the device is really amazing and I am shocked I haven't heard about it from others yet. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Fantastic Item Thursday, January 15, 2009 A Customer from Fort Payne, AL
The UHF remote extender works as advertised. Very easy to use. I bought a second one after trying the first. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works well Sunday, January 11, 2009 D Law from Federal Way, WA
Product works very well. The RF battery insert is a wonder. I can control my components from the oppostie side of the house. You just need to have the repeater in line of site of the components. The only issue I have is that my components and TV are not in the same line of site and are not switched together so I have to point the remote directly to the second component when turning on/off.
Not too much of a hassle for me, but some may find it a bit tedious. If you have a receiver linking everything together, you won't have to deal with this issue.

5 of 5 Built-in Charger! Tuesday, January 06, 2009 A Customer from Arlington, MN
Very impressed that there is a built-in charger in the base that will charge both batteries, and allow the second battery to remain until needed. Note that there is an initial 24-36hr time to charge the batteries. After that...less than 5 minutes to hook up. Highly recommend! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works Great! Tuesday, December 02, 2008 Jeff from Atlanta, GA
I used to use a pyramid type extender, which worked OK up to about 15 feet away. But this Next Generation extender works through walls from other rooms in the house! I use it in my Comcast DVR remote and all the functions work fine, including the "All On" button. Highly recommended!

5 of 5 Perfect device Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Bob from Winston Salem, NC

5 of 5 Worth Every Penny Sunday, November 23, 2008 A Customer from Peoria, AZ
I recently installed a backyard audio system, and my reciever is in the house. I was worried, as the remote control was quite complex, controlling am, fm, xm, iPod, etc. I charged one of the batteries first, a tip I got from another review. I plugged it in as stated, and presto. I can sit in my backyard, and the remote works flawlessly. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Made it work for me. Saturday, November 15, 2008 Jay from Jacksonville, FL
Would not work with my satellite receiver remote. Had an old Sony RM-AV3100 Universal Remote, so I used the "learning" feature to clone the satellite remote and installed the NextGen transmitter in the universal remote. It works perfectly, anywhere in my large 2-story house! Excellent value for such a low price. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great product - doing everything I want - support Thursday, October 23, 2008 Lloyd from Winchester, VA
This controlled all my components except dvr out of the box. After I researched a bit, I found the switch under the battery that made it work for the dvr. Great functionality for the price - really nice to go RF instead of IR anytime! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Amazing! Thursday, October 16, 2008 A Customer from Long Beach, CA
I tried other relays & extenders. I bought the Jensen - piece of crap, same with leapfrog. This nextGen is awesome and it really works! The RF battery controls my television/DVR from anywhere in the house even outdoors. Cannot recommend this one enough. Wow! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great Monday, October 13, 2008 Will from Lexington, Ky
This little wonder has been working great for a month now. The IR transmitter is 10 feet from my Dish DVR box and the remote communicates with the transmitter from 20+ feet away. Works well through 3 walls. The best remote extension I have used. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great Friday, October 10, 2008 A Customer from Phoenix, AZ
I have purchased three of these, one for our rv to view tv outside and the extender controls the Directv receiver from inside just fine. The second one I bought for our DVR security system located securely in a closet, had to tweak the location of the emitter a little and it works fine. I first tried it with a Harmony 659 and they DON'T work but the Harmony 676 does. I even emailed Next Generation about this as they state they work with all Harmony remotes and never received a reply. The third one I bought because I just wanted an extra transmitter for the bedroom for the security DVR and now have extra parts if needed (the transmitters alone were $20 + shipping so I figured might as well spend $30 for the whole thing). They Work! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Works well in most cases Wednesday, August 13, 2008 A Customer from Midwest USA
I've had the Next Generation remote extender for a couple of months now and it seems to work well most of the time.
I've found, however, that a ceiling fan in the room with my equipment can interfere with the signal when it's in the medium or high speeds. On low speed it seems ok. The motor of the fan must be putting out RF interference that conflicts with the remote transmitter signal.
So, if you're planning on using this in a room with a ceiling fan, be aware that it may cause problems.
Also, I've been looking around to get a second transmitter for a 2nd remote, but it's amazingly difficult to figure out which frequency my current transmitter and base work on so that I can make sure I'm ordering the right secondary transmitter.
Other than that, it's working pretty well and certainly much better than the other IR based extenders that I've tried which unfortunately have all been worthless. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Simple solution Wednesday, August 06, 2008 Saul from Owings Mills, MD
I have an LCD on the wall and wanted my FIOS box on the unfinished wall behind the tv. For my use, this product seems to be working just as advertised. I didn't like the instructions, but once I got it figured out, it was easy to set up and operate. It has not seen extensive use yet, so I can't rate the performance beyond the usual first install attempts to play with it. Still, for the price, it seems a great deal if you want your equipment located somewhere else. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Does NOT control Dish receivers! Wednesday, July 30, 2008 A Customer from Scranton, PA
If you have "updated" to the new Dish receivers that do not include an RF remote, this device will NOT help you. Set up was easy, just charged the "transmitter" (battery) overnight, swapped it with one of the Dish remote batteries, and it worked fine ... at least in controlling the TV itself and my amplifier. But it would NOT control the Dish 211 VIP receiver, which is what I bought it for. Therefore, I found it useless for the intended purpose. Was this review helpful?

(note: value score is based on price on 4-24-08)
My digital tuner is inside my closet, which I keep closed. I decided to try out this puppy to be able to control it from outside the closet. It works, plain and simple, though I've only had it for 1 day (take it for what you will). The ufo is also a lot smaller than it looks, it fits in your palm. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Couldn't Be Easier! Tuesday, April 29, 2008 Curt from Richmond, VA
this device is the best! It tool longer to open the packaging than it did to set up the device. Now I can have the cable STB in a cabinet out of sight and control it seamlessly. Charged the 2/3 AAA battery for 2 hours...put it in the remote...plugged in the base unit and voila....done! The only thing that I felt could have been explained better in the instructions is that the battery slots in the base unit are for charging of "rechargeable" batteries only. There is a sticker under the access panel with a warning...but to me since the 2/3 AAA battery came with the unit...I didn't completely understand the AAA battery charging spot it also contains. As you can tell I am stretching to find a drawback...this thing is the best! Remote works from adjacent rooms and the response is quicker than the original IR mode!!!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Does what is says on the tin Monday, April 28, 2008 A Customer from Chandler, AZ
This is a great little device, does exactly what the manufacturer says it will. I bought one for the bedroom and know i dont need to see the tivo unit, it is hidden in a drawer. I bought another for the living room a few weeks later and know i can control the stereo throughout the house, which means no more running to the living room to turn music on when I am in the den. This device is great, highly recommended, I have already recommended to several colleagues.
I have had one remote for a Phillips Upscaling DVD player not work, other that that, everything else has worked a charm. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Worth it. I would buy again. Saturday, April 26, 2008 A Customer from DeKalb, IL
Not expensive, and very easy set up. Just plug it in.
It definitely works from across the house. I use the transmitter in my Comcast Remote. The only thing that does not seem work 100% of the time is the "All On" button. Still, it's a great invention and totally worth it.
I split the signal, using IR eye included to my cable box and a purchased patch cord to the remote input jack in the rear of my Pioneer A/V receiver. Also, 2 rechargable batteries are included. The base stand is a recharger. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great without the IR dongle Tuesday, April 22, 2008 A Customer from Atlanta, GA
The product works, almost like magic. You can read about that from the other reviews. One thing I think they should advertise more, is that the receiver itself (the UFO looking part) works as an IR emitter. So you can set it up a few feet away from all your components and you can control multiple devices at once. I don't even have the single IR emitter hooked up right now. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great Saturday, April 12, 2008 Mike from Cherryville NC
I have Time Warner cable with HDTV. I added another TV in the bedroom and wanted to be able to watch cable there. I didn't feel the need to get another receiver since I live alone and felt it would be a waste. Anyway, I added a HDMI splitter and ran a long HDMI cable to the bedroom which worked very well. Only problem was I couldn't change the channel for the cable receiver. So, the Next Generation remote extender was the answer. It works as advertised and works very very well for me. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to do what I did. Oh by the way. I did get another cable receiver remote from Time Warner for use in the bedroom. Was this review helpful?

Product works as described. I tried a Radio Shack brand first, and this one works much better. I have a LCD hung on wall and directv and DVD in cabinet, and it works great. This is a great little toy to have! This lets me watch things that are on my DVR in my bedroom at night instead of the living room. 5 of 5 Suggestions with Harmony's 659 Saturday, March 15, 2008 Dave from New Scotland NY
Has anyone tried this with the harmony 659. It doesn't seem to work at all with this remote. It does work well with my stereo system's "2nd zone" remote, but I only use this for my den or our master bed/bath. I would appreciate if someone has any suggestion on this. Was this review helpful?

2 of 5 Sketchy Performance Thursday, March 06, 2008 Tom from Philadelphia
It's a good idea... and frankly, I'm amazed that it works at all. The little battery transmitter is ingenious and I have no idea how it is senses what infra-red signals are being sent out of the remote. So that part is very cool. But for me it just didn't seem to work well.
It worked about half the time. I have a Home Theater Master 500 remote in which it worked sometimes, but not consistently enough to be worth the effort. I also tried it in the FIOS-supplied remote. It worked a little better in that one but still not consistently. I could be using the remote for maybe 10 keystrokes, all working just fine. Then I'd change to a different key and no response. I'd hit the key four or five times still with no response and then I'd try aiming the remote different places or covering the remote's infrared emitter with my hand - which usually, but not always, fixed the problem. My assessment from that is: When the component receiving the signals (i.e. your cable box, dvd player, audio receiver, tv, etc) gets infrared from both your hand-held remote AND the Next Generation extender, it somehow cancels out. I can see by the indicator lights that the Next Generation is receiving the FM, then sending out the infrared, so I know it's working. But then the cable box, for instance, does not respond.
I tried numerous locations for the extender, close to the components, far from and using the little direct-eye emitter. All of which, by the way, was not appreciated by my wife. She disliked the look of a visible "gadget" flashing a red light ALL THE TIME.
I suppose I could put tape over the infrared emitter on the remote, but I don't want to do that. And even when I blocked the infrared from the remote, the performance was still a little inconsistent. So overall, this extender does not work for me.
But I have to admit, it was nice to be able to control the kid's TV volume in the living room from the kitchen! (when it worked). Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 This extender really works Sunday, March 02, 2008 Lee Cort from Palm City, FL.
You don't have to spend a lot to get what you need. The IR extender works perfectly with my S.A. cable box, is easy to hook up and I am using the original battery/IF for over 2 months without rechanging. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works Great! Monday, February 25, 2008 A Customer from Lansing, MI
My receiver and equipment are hidden out of sight. This remote allows me to control them without a problem.
PROS: Work great as advertised. Range was excellent: worked everywhere in my house. Easy to use (just replace a battery). Worked with my Logitech Harmony 680 universal remote for all my electronics (Pinoeer Elite TV, Pioneer DVD, Denon Receiver, etc.) except one (see below). Best RF adapter I've ever used.
CONS: Did NOT work with my Windows Media Center / Vista machine using the Logitech Harmony Remote. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Excellent! Thursday, January 31, 2008 A Customer from Marlboro, NJ
I tried Jensen and found it to be a junk. Then I tried the Radio Shack unit - much-much better, but not sensitive enough. The ATH-AAA is so much better - it is on a different scale of performance. It is just excellent: Transmitter in your own remote disguised as a battery is very powerful to work around 4 adjacent rooms of the house. The stylish receiver and charger is well designed. Excellent product overall. Was this review helpful?

I have been using the extender for about a week now and it is impressive. It is too early to judge its life expectancy or that of the batteries, but so far it is performing exactly as advertised. I can control our cable box on the first and second floor from our basement. That's pretty cool!

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 This thing is great! Tuesday, December 18, 2007 Mike W from Allen, TX
What a great idea! Instead of an IR sensor, it uses a tiny RF receiver/transmitter sleeve with a 2/3 AAA rechargeable battery inside that takes the place of a AA or AAA battery within the remote. When you press buttons on your remote, the internal RF signals generated by the remote are picked up and transmitted to the "spaceship" which then sends the signal to your hidden components via an IR emitter. You can control your components with NO sensor in the room! Genius!
We just installed a wall-mounted LCD and can hide all of the source components in a closet. Super-clean install.
Also, you get two of the rechargeable batteries, so you are never without power. The extra one stays in the "spaceship" ready-to-go. Was this review helpful?
