5 of 5 Not enough superlatives Tuesday, June 10, 2008 A Customer from Chicago, IL
I've given these out as gifts, and each time all those persons' friends and relatives end up buying one too. You won't remember how you got along without one. Unlike the previous review, I have not had a single problem with it, maybe he got a damaged unit or something. Also I called customer service for a minor question and got right through. Unless you want to buy a project instead of a product, stay away from this. I think the only ones who have got it work telnet into it and hack the OS. Out of the box it never once worked. Networking never worked. SD card recognition failed. Tried to upgrade firmware, it failed as well. Called tech support over 5 times and got no assitance. Once I was promised a call back by end of the day and still waiting. Returned it after 30 days. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Not too bad Monday, March 24, 2008 Ken from Greenwood, IN
The product is definitely "flimsy" in that I think the cables easily weigh more than the box. I have only done a quick test with a VHS and it dod seem to put the VHS on my hard drive. My intent with this product is to copy all my VHS tapes to digital.
I found that I can really only do this on one TV in the house. It won't work on my flat screen mounted to the wall because I can't plug it in to the cable box to record and to the TV to see what I am taping (and to use the onscreen menu) at the same time. Distance too far. This is best when plugging into the front of the TV and the front of a VCR.
I am a little worried about getting it all set up and started, then walking away to find out that the file size wasn't large enough to record a whole video tape. We shall see if that is a problem... Was this review helpful?

I just purchased this last week. It was a little cheaper from Buy.com (yah) and I love it. I tried recording some things from my cable box and played them back. You couldn't even tell it was a recorded copy. It looked like the real thing. I am still exploring new uses for this little gem. I plan on converting some old VHS tapes to dvd and storing them on an external hard drive and even storing my 500+ DVD videos on it so that I can catalog and watch them anywhere. Buy it - it's so simple, a caveman can do it :) Was this review helpful?

I would say for the price I paid which is less than what it is listed now, I would have like to seen the device be a little more substantial than the light plastic shell it has. Once I figured out it the Fat32 vs NTSF I was in business. I have not downloaded any firmware yet, but the recordings i have made for the Ipod touch work great, still have issues with picture quality when playing back recordings on HDTV, but for the older sets looks great.
My only wishes is for the price it should have been wireless and it should have been sturdier product. Was this review helpful?
