4 of 5 IT WORKS Saturday, September 20, 2008
JOHNNY from ROCKFORD,IL

THIS PRODUCT REALLY WORKS GREAT, HAD NO PROBLEM WITH IT SO FAR AND I AM ABLE TO BACK UP MY DVD'S AND BLU RAY MOVIES,HOME MOVIES, MUSIC AND PICTURES. IT IS SO EASY TO USE, THE ONLY DOWNSIZE IS, IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE SDHC NOR HAS INPUT OR OUTPUT FOR HDMI,AND I WISH I COULD AUTOMATICALLY MAKE A COPY ON A HIGHER OR LOWER PIXEL, LIKE IF I ORIGINALLY BACKED IT UP FOR TV, THEN WANTED TO MAKE A COPY FOR MY IPOD,HOPEFULLY THE MANUFACTURER WOULD CONSIDER THIS OPTIONS ON THE NEW NEUROS OSD THAT WILL COME OUT. THEN I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT A 5 EVEN WITH JUST THE HDMI INPUT/OUTPUT.

3 of 5 Make sure what you need before buying this! Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Jiten V. from Dallas, TX
Unless you want to really record things from multiple sources, you may reconsider your decision to buy this one. It is very slow, requires you to be techno savvy. Display on a big TV is far from perfect. Being used to DVD quality, not sure if this will be acceptable. Overall - ok buy. nothing great.

5 of 5 Not enough superlatives Tuesday, June 10, 2008
A Customer from Chicago, IL
I've given these out as gifts, and each time all those persons' friends and relatives end up buying one too. You won't remember how you got along without one. Unlike the previous review, I have not had a single problem with it, maybe he got a damaged unit or something. Also I called customer service for a minor question and got right through.

4 of 5 Nice and compact device Sunday, May 18, 2008
Jeeth from Sunnyvale, CA
I got this box two days back and was testing with all possible ways. I found that it is very easy to setup and people will love this who really know the power of Open source(Linux). I could easily install VNC server and could able to get the menu on laptop, there are many people contributing to this product, I hope soon we will find lot more application or plugins. Right now the only drawback is it records on FAT32 format and it is not possible to create more than 32 GB using this format, If you want to go for more than 32 GB then you need to format using some third party (open source) softwares but the disadvantage is the FAT32 is slow in copy/read files. I have not tried the network sharing, hope that will solve the FAT32 problem, I could found in forums that people are trying to build plugin to read ntfs partition. Overall, I really Love this small and cute box.

2 of 5 Slick and Frustrating Monday, May 12, 2008
SJG from Anaheim, California
The Neuros OSD comes nicely packaged with all the cables you need. It looks good and appears to have lots of possibilities. However, the remote control is clumsy and not very intuitive. The on-screen instructions in the various menus are sorely lacking. One can choose menu items and get all kinds of new options, all of which are useless if you don't know what to do with them. Unless my unit was missing an instruction booklet or glossary of terms, the lack of instructional support is a huge disadvantage with this instrument. I have set up HD editing systems with breakout boxes, networked my offices and home, work with iPhones, iPods, Zunes, etc., so I am not a novice when it comes to gadgets. I'm being patient, but this is not as user friendly as it appears or as the ads for it might claim.

5 of 5 nice purchase Saturday, May 03, 2008
A Customer from Maryland
Works great out of box, easy set up, interface can use some "dressing up" to look nicer, otherwise looks too simple. Connected an independent USB harddrive, with a shortcut to a VIDEOS folder, store all movies in there - easy to navigate. Eventually will hook up to a Network Attached Storage. Recording quality is ok, only recorded from VCR so far, may depend on your video source. Still figuring out how to stop recording. I press Record Now to start, but when stopping, it will continue recording for another minute. Not sure why. Product feels flimsy in hand butlooks sharp. Very nicely packgaed. Would buy it (the next version) as a gift for friends.

1 of 5 Horrible product, great idea but fails miserably Friday, April 25, 2008
A Customer from Dallas, Texas
Unless you want to buy a project instead of a product, stay away from this. I think the only ones who have got it work telnet into it and hack the OS. Out of the box it never once worked. Networking never worked. SD card recognition failed. Tried to upgrade firmware, it failed as well. Called tech support over 5 times and got no assitance. Once I was promised a call back by end of the day and still waiting. Returned it after 30 days.

5 of 5 Good MP4 recorder plus network media player Wednesday, April 02, 2008
A customer from Allentown, PA
This is a DVR plus network media player combo, although the hard disk is not included. It can record to memory card, external USB drive, or a network drive share on a PC. It can also play many types of media files from a PC on the home network. Overall a very versatile device with constantly improving firmware upgrades from open source community. Pleased with its capabilities and excited about future potential.

4 of 5 Not too bad Monday, March 24, 2008
Ken from Greenwood, IN
The product is definitely "flimsy" in that I think the cables easily weigh more than the box. I have only done a quick test with a VHS and it dod seem to put the VHS on my hard drive. My intent with this product is to copy all my VHS tapes to digital. I found that I can really only do this on one TV in the house. It won't work on my flat screen mounted to the wall because I can't plug it in to the cable box to record and to the TV to see what I am taping (and to use the onscreen menu) at the same time. Distance too far. This is best when plugging into the front of the TV and the front of a VCR. I am a little worried about getting it all set up and started, then walking away to find out that the file size wasn't large enough to record a whole video tape. We shall see if that is a problem...

4 of 5 Slick device Saturday, March 15, 2008
Wally from Fayetteville, GA
Very small unit that connects your network to your home theater. Has limited inputs from other devices connected by RCA/video jacks. No HD capability. I have not had any luck getting it to play FLV files directly. It has its own You-Tube browser that seems a bit difficult to use. It is very useful for capturing old VHS tapes and DVD's to hard drive.

5 of 5 I Love It! Tuesday, March 11, 2008
A Customer from Columbus, OH
I just purchased this last week. It was a little cheaper from Buy.com (yah) and I love it. I tried recording some things from my cable box and played them back. You couldn't even tell it was a recorded copy. It looked like the real thing. I am still exploring new uses for this little gem. I plan on converting some old VHS tapes to dvd and storing them on an external hard drive and even storing my 500+ DVD videos on it so that I can catalog and watch them anywhere. Buy it - it's so simple, a caveman can do it :)

4 of 5 After intial setup, works ok Monday, March 03, 2008
swilson35 from Kansas City, Mo
I would say for the price I paid which is less than what it is listed now, I would have like to seen the device be a little more substantial than the light plastic shell it has. Once I figured out it the Fat32 vs NTSF I was in business. I have not downloaded any firmware yet, but the recordings i have made for the Ipod touch work great, still have issues with picture quality when playing back recordings on HDTV, but for the older sets looks great. My only wishes is for the price it should have been wireless and it should have been sturdier product.

5 of 5 Fantastic Device Sunday, March 02, 2008
Scott from Coldwater, MI
I wanted something TIVO like without the monthly fees and the Neuros seemed to fit the bill. Maybe not as handy as the TIVO and a little harder to schedule, but it works great! I use a USB harddrive for saving things which is working well and I'll be hooking it to my home network soon. I've also programmed its remote to control my VCR (where I get the TV signal), so now I can schedule by channel. This feature works very well. The YouTube feature is neat and I'm sure the open source community will be adding many more features as well. I also have an S-Video out on my PC, so I can digitize the output from the PC. This could be a great way to make tutorials and such. Overall, at times it can be a little quirky, but well worth the investment.

5 of 5 Cool little gadget! Saturday, March 01, 2008
Satisfied buyer from Normal, IL
When I read the description of this device, I decided I had to check it out. I had no compelling reason, other than it seemed to be able to do a number of things with video. It also looked like it could provide a mechanism to link my computer and the TV. My kids love the fact that it will record video directly to an iPod, as they have been bugging me for some time to convert some of their videos to a format they could watch at the gym. I have made a wireless connection between my existing network on a different floor of the house and the Neuros OSD by converting an older Linksys wireless router to DD-WRT firmware, and then setting it up to run as a wireless bridge. Works great as a way to stream video to the TV!

4 of 5 Excellent product with some software gliches Saturday, March 01, 2008
Willis McDonald from Hemphill, Texas
The OSD works well as is but needs better software to be great. There is a problem that occurs on the first copy which causes the device to record for several minutes then close out the recording. You have to reset the dvd and restart the recording, this time it works for the whole dvd and anymore recording you do for that session. There is a 4GB recording limit on the high resolution setting and a 2GB limit on the low setting, this comes out to about 4 hr limit per recording. The device is not for HD or BlueRay quality dvds. The problems I beleive will be worked out in future software upgrades, overall I'm well pleased with the Neuros OSD, carring around a USB drive with 100 plus DVD/VHS movies is much easier than keeping track of the actual DVDS on trips and holidays.

5 of 5 Neuros OSD Wednesday, December 26, 2007
stewart498 from tyler, tx
I received the Neuros in a very timely manner. I had some concern around the holidays but it was delivered the day of promise. I started exploring with the Neuros OSD the same day I received it. It can do a lot of things such as play YOU TUBE, SD cards, and movies from my networked system. It does the things promised. I have yet to use it to record or transfer camcorder or VHS media. It did an excellent job recording audio to an SD card. I am reading the Neuros forum and learning other things I can do with my Neuros. I am satisfied.

4 of 5 So far so good Tuesday, December 04, 2007
linkaprn from Suffield, CT
I'm sure there is much more that I can do with this device but so far have scheduled recordings from TV to my computer via network and able to easily transfer to my Ipod. Remote is kind of quirky. I am looking forward to more applications once I figure it all out!

5 of 5 Great Multimedia device! Tuesday, September 04, 2007
Alexander Lopez from salinas ca
The Osd has indeed grown up in the past couple of months. Having been a former Neuros recorder 2 owner, and loving it to death.. I took the leap with high hopes for this device. It did not le tme down ONE Bit! I love everything about the unit! From Recording to Tv/ipod/Psp formats to memory stick or external memory drives.. watching youtube, listening to mp3s, or letting my photo slideshow of my kids bring a smile to my face.. this sleek black unit is FANTASTIC! Heck even small video files under 15 minutes can be edited on the unit directly! What other unit off the top of your head can boast that? So far the best 230 bucks spent! With top notch customer support from them, and a bundle of firmware upgrades from an open commnunity.. innovation is in the driver seat, and I like where it has taken this so far. It has played back divx files with relative ease, and mpeg files are a smnap.. yet the multiple codes cause problems for xvid. Still not the Units problem.. It is due to the variety of codes that cause problems. FAR too many, heck many pcs have problems with them, requiring you to d/l codec packs to get them to play. Scheduled recordings are fantastic, select a time, format and recurrence .. daily, weekly, or onetime recording settings are standard.. with a guide being implemented soon on the unit! It gets better with age! If you have been on the fence for one of these, get one with no regrets! I have been using my unit daily to record shows and love it! The OSD is a portable powerhouse that can be taken anywhere if you want! We watched several shows I recorded during the memorial day weekend at the Lake and everyone enjoyed the quality and portability of this. I even was able to record some of my shows at the inlaws and did not miss any of my kids Tv they love so much!

5 of 5 Personal Video Recording - MPEG4 Thursday, May 24, 2007
A Customer from Toronto Canada
This review is especially for anyone who wish they could watch their favourite shows, media, on the go, anywhere you want. This OSD is not just another PVR, DVR. It allows me to record from a TV, a DVD player, a security camera and more. I watch TV shows, recorded on the OSD, as simple as a VCR, on my TREO. If you own an IPOD, a TREO, a smartphone, a PSP, a TV, a laptop, or a PC, you can watch recorded video on any one of these by using this little "gem". I have mine connected to my TV. I schedule it, just like a VCR, to record my favourite programs. The cool thing is, it records to any type of memory card. This thing is cool. So many options. An SD card for my Treo A compact flash card for my digital camera A USB thumbdrive for my laptop A USB thumbdrive for my pc A MSDUO for my PSP. No ripping software, no pc needed. I just plug it in like a VCR, grab the remote and program it. Plug in any type of memory card and leave it do its thing. SO many ways to watch any video, anywhere, anytime, on the go. My drive to and from work is not boring anymore Can your cable PVR do that?? I didn't think so............. Not anymore. With the OSD you can record that "missed ballgame, your favourite TV program, a hockey game, etc" to any type of memory card. Your Treo has an SD slot.
