5 of 5 Simply-it works Monday, August 04, 2008 Dennis from Chappaqua, New York
Very simple to use once you have the switch unit plugged into your router, plug this into another outlet near to where you need access and it works, no configurations to deal with it is really plug & play. I had previously purchased the set of two (switch & Ehternet 4-port unit) last year to solve a dead spot in my wireless network, this now covers all of my wireless dead spots. In my first unit I have both a WAP and a print server plugged in and it works just fine previously I had problems accessing the nextwork. Now my wireless network reads excellent througtout my house Was this review helpful?

I have a set of 11-Meg Netgear XE102s (looks like a giant silver marshmallow) in my house. I replaced one of them with one of these 85-meg 4-port switches. It connected to the XE102s and worked within seconds. The reason for the change was so that I could plug in my Dishnetwork DVR and Slingbox from the TV area of the living room, without putting an Ethernet hub, power supply, and cables into an already overcrowded A/V rack. This did the job without fuss, in seconds. I also bought the refurb unit from Reforger, through Buy.com. No problems there and reforger.com is recommended. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great product Thursday, April 26, 2007 A customer from Montville, NJ
Having had some problems with performance on my wireless network, I picked up 2 of the XE104. It's a small footprint as it plugs directly into the outlet and has a 4 port switch. It might not work for all as it places the switch near the outlet. Also, plugging it into an extension cord or power strip can greatly reduce bandwidth. It did fix the problems that I was having with throughput, although I don't believe I get that close to the 85Mbps. I ended up picking up three more of these and have been very happy with their performance, and pulling the large number of devices off of my wireless network improved the throughput on my wireless network as well. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product. Was this review helpful?

Immediately after putting the two X104 switches online, it was obvious that the data rate transmission was practically the same as hard-wired ethernet rate and much faster than the Belkin powerline transmitter/receiver that I had been using. I needed another branch to the network, so purchased NetGear and it worked well and Buy.com was 40% less expensive than BestBuy.
One precaution however, Belkin and NetGear are not compatible, so you will not be able to use both in the same wiring circuit.

5 of 5 Fantastic! Monday, October 23, 2006 Sunil from Livonia, MI
Netgear XE104 is wired but works very well. Plus security protection. It gives you 85mbps+ speed anywhere in the house - guaranteed without any interruption

Works as described. Fast connection. Didn't know I needed two, so bought another after the first one arrived. Only concern is to remember to unplug right before every lighting storm as you aren't supposed to use them with a surge protector (seems very risky to your computer equipment). I found this product to be every bit as good as Walter Mossberg said in his Wall Street Journal review: just a couple of easy connections, and your house or apartment's electrical wiring carries your broadband connection to places the wireless router can't reach. You need a minimum of two Netgear XE 104's, of course -- one at the router and one at the computer(s) you want to reach -- which isn't necessarily clear from the descriptions on-line. However, the simplicity of the setup and speed of the resulting connection have been exemplary for me. Was this review helpful?

For three years I've been unsuccessfully trying to consistently link the far corners of our 2 story condo using WiFi. The XE104NA accomplished the task by simply plugging a pair of them in, connecting one with the router and the other to the previously unreachable unit. Just plugged them in and it worked as advertised. Great product! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Just works. Monday, September 11, 2006 xpkranger from Atlanta, GA
Worked right out of the box. Went through a large house with lots of electronic equipment.
They should be sold in pairs, because you must have two for it to work.
Worth the expense though if you just have to have something that functions fast and functions properly. Was this review helpful?
