1 of 5 The failure time must be built in..... Friday, October 24, 2008
A Customer from Clemmons, NC

The router worked fine for about 12 months, but quit working one evening. The power light was the only illuminated light. Power cycling did not fix the issue. I went back to a Linksys never to return to Netgear.

1 of 5 Wow! You guys got ripped off too??? ;P :( :O Thursday, February 07, 2008
Robert Fancher from Dallas, TX
I don't know what else to say that hasn't already been made quite clear here. My shiny special new wireless-N router from Netgear worked wonderfully for a little more than 12 months. I began have slight problems with it. I was just about fed up, and ready to look into my service/repair options for the unit, when one day, it refused to start up again. It died. Plain and simple. Mine lasted 2 or 3 months past the 1 year warranty, which I do suppose is longer than you guys had it going for. I am shocked to discover how terrible this device is, statistically speaking. There's no doubt in my mind that if you buy this router now (which still costs more than $100? LMFAO!) you will experience the same un-timely death of an expensive computer hardware router like we all have. Netgear has lost myself as a customer for life, period. What can I say? I'll pay 10% more for a similar network product of any other brand, from now on. Shoot - make it 20% more. Netgear is dead to me. Just like my Wireless-N router

1 of 5 DON'T BUY THIS ROUTER Sunday, January 27, 2008
Jerry from Denver, CO
I had this router for just over a year and it worked great out of the box but died a couple weeks beyond the warranty period. I contacted Netgear and their response was "too bad for you". It was the same "green ring of death" that everyone else experiences. I got up one morning and was working on a wireless computer and suddenly lost the connection and there was no reviving it. The price I paid was high enough that I would have expected it to last longer and perhaps a friendlier response from the manufacturer, neither of which happened. I had always thought Netgear made a quality product but not after this and I won't buy another Netgear anything.

1 of 5 1 rate to high, died after 13 months Sunday, January 20, 2008
bapa_01 from st. paul minn
DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER YOU HAVE BEEN WARN. Beware of the green light of death from netgear. It started diconnecting then died the green light of death. Netgear said sorry no warrenty but would be happy to sell me a new one. this is a common problem. I have seen alot of reviews and there all the same died just after warrenty.

1 of 5 Serious Design Flaw-Fails in 6 to 10 Months Tuesday, January 01, 2008
A Customer from Mountain View, CA
I'm a free-lance IT consultant, and during 2007, I installed 4 of these routers, and ALL of them have failed. So far, one has been replaced, and the replacement failed. The other three were simply trashed, even though they were under warranty, because Netgear's replacement procedures are so byzantine that it isn't worth my or my client's time. To get the one replacement, I had to waste more than two hours on three phone calls & multiple emails, communicating with tech support personel who didn't listen to what I was saying or carefully read what had written, who had me repeat troubleshooting steps, and who weren't willing to admit that this model is seriously flawed. When I tried to arrange a replacement for the replacement, they insisted on making me run through all the troubleshooting hoops, again. Ridiculous. Wanting to prevent a perfectly good product from being replaced is one thing, but willful, institutionalized obtuseness is another. Netgear has made a turkey, and judging by their indifference and/or stone-walling they know it. Don't take my word for it. Check out shopper.cnet.com. or www.amazon.com for other customer horror stories. Except for their excellent FS series Ethernet switches, I will never again own or recommend any Netgear product.

1 of 5 Extended warranty should be purchased Tuesday, September 04, 2007
A Customer from Pearl River, La.
If you consider purchasing the WNR854T, I would also suggest purchasing an extended warranty; I was pleased with the router and the performance when paired with the wireless card. Problem is reliability. My first one went out within 11 months of service, netgear replaced it without charge, now this second one went out within three months, I'm presently waiting on their tech department to return my call, but of course it is out of warranty now. Customer support is friendly as any but the quality of this unit needs attention. At this time I am reluctant to purchase any other Netgear equipment until they honor replacement of my router.

2 of 5 Stability Issue Sunday, August 05, 2007
IL from Lawrenceville GA

Setup wasn't too difficult, but had too many problems staying connected.

Initial problem encountered was website form submission, somehow submitting a big text field was hanging the computer. Updated the firmware and problem went away.

The problems that hasn't been solved included ftp stability, failed 3 out of 5 times, had to killed ftp connection on the server end to make it go through. Switched back to my old DLink router and everything went through smoothly.

Hard wired connection would be disconnected and reconnected intermittently, or internet would stop working and I had to restart the router to make it work.

Been communicating with Netgear support and would get a replacement unit soon. The problem may be caused by a defective unit. Hopefully this is the case as I really like the wireless range and strength. Much better than my old DLink G router.
