5 of 5 Excellent Saturday, July 16, 2005 Ken from Mechanicsburg,Pa
I wont buy any other brand than Netgear. I;ve worked with several other brands but nothing tops this one ... Had it for 3 months and have not had to reboot it yet. Easy web interface also. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works well -- I recommend it Saturday, June 04, 2005 I'd rather be hiking from Redwood City, CA, USA
I've had this router for a month now, and am very happy with it. I use an IBM T41 laptop with a built-in wireless card.
The installation was quite easy and took about 10 mins. Everything needed is included in the box.
The signal strength thoughout my (1000-square feet) home is always 'very good' or 'excellent', even through a few walls. Like some other routers, I haven't experienced dropped connections when the phone/microwave/other electronics is turned on.
Earlier, the connection was being dropped every 10 minutes or so. This is a very common problem with some routers. I disabled the IEEE authentication to fix this. Now, the connection never drops, even after 24 hours. (This doesn't mean there is no protection, you should use WEP to protect your network against hackers). I strongly recommend that you use a good firewall like ZoneAlarm (their free version is also decent) with any internet connection.
It looks sleek too. You also have the option of mounting it on a wall for a clearer signal, although I didn't need to do this.
For the price, this is an excellent product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Netgear MR814 Thursday, April 28, 2005 Jack Overath from White Sulphur Springs, WV
I have been using the MR814 (version 1) for over two years. It is an excellent router/switch/wireless AP. Note that there are now three versions of this product (MR814, MR814v2 & MR814v3). Quote from the Netgear support page: "Versions are similar, but firmware and manuals are not interchangable!" I don't have any experiencxe with the v3 but have tried the v2. It didn't seem to have the wireless range of the original (sometimes identified as the v1) so I reinstalled the v1. I live in a two story house. I was able to get a good signal in my first floor kitchen with the v1 in my second floor office but not with the v2. I've since installed the v2 in a one floor office building with three adjoining offices. It works very well there with excellent signal strength in all offices. I particularly like the passphrase capability. I'm using Netgear MA111 USB wireless adapters and typing in a 4 -8 character passphrase is much easier than trying to match the 26 character WEP key. I couldn't tell from the spec sheet if v3 supported WPA but the user manual has info about it. V1 and v2 apparently do not and I couldn't tell if they were upgradable. All-in-all an excellent product! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Flawless operation Monday, April 04, 2005 A Customer from Orlando, FL
This WIFI combo has performed flawlessly since installation. I hear of others having to "reboot" their routers, but this one handles our network, including a VOIP router, and two other servers without a hitch.
Easy to set up too. Was this review helpful?

I have been using this router with a cable modem for 1 year now and haven't had a problem with it yet.
Originally it was used to supplement my LinkSys 802.11b router but quickly replaced it altogether.
It was very easy to install and configure the router, and making adjustments via the administrative HTTP webpage is a snap too.
While the LinkSys needed constant reconfiguration and resetting, the NetGear has been solid as a rock.
Signal strength is easily 10%-15% stronger than the LinkSys even though the LinkSys has two antennas compared to the single antenna on the NetGear.
I am also using this with a NetGear WG511 54mbps PCMCIA card with much better results than those I had with my LinkSys WFC11 PCMCIA card. Was this review helpful?
