The product has been excellent so far. Everything connected up right from the start and I have never had a problem since. My only complaint is that I had to set up a printer first with it. I was waiting on a printer to be delivered and wanted to use the the Netgear to pick up a wireless signal elsewhere and then let some PC's connect to the Netgear for internet access but this could not be done without connecting and setting up the printer first. There may be a way around this but I could not easily find it. I hooked up an old printer and went forward (removing the printer almost immediately) and as soon as the new printer I ordered arrived I connected it up. This is a minor inconvenience but I wanted to mention it in case someone planned to buy this purely for the ability to extend a wireless network. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works with Brother MFC 8440 Sunday, May 18, 2008 connell.roy@gmail.com from Carlstadt, NJ
I bought this refurb, downloaded the software from http://netgear.com and had a Brother MFC 8440 working on our wireless network on 3 laptops in about 20 min. No comp needed except for setup so this is great for us. Glad to have 4 ports as our office is downstairs and photo printing and internet connection are upstairs. Easy to use and I hope to have another printer on it for 11 x 17 soon. Recommended, but have seen on the web that it might not work with some printers Was this review helpful?

Netgear print server is the best value out there. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Not worth the effort Tuesday, December 11, 2007 David from Marin County, CA
I have had this wireless print server for several months and it has been nothing but trouble - I'm tossing it in the garbage. I set up several cabled and wireless computers to work with it and every few days they simply stop seeing the server. Their overseas tech reps, when you can understand them, either try to blame the firewall (which I had deactivated) or the printer, which has nothing to do with the failure of my computers to even see the server. You are much better off connecting the printers to a networked computer and leaving it on to print through. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 No Problems Wednesday, April 04, 2007 Bob from Alabama
Setup of the WGPS606 with a Netgear WGR614v6 router was a breeze. I am a technical guy, but I think it would be easy for anyone. For now, I set it up just as a print server at my fiancee's house and so far it is working like a charm. I plan to use it as a bridge when I move my office there, with at least 2 PCs and a VoIP phone connected through it. I tested the bridge functionality when I installed it by turning off the wireless on her laptop and plugging up directly to the WGPS606 and the internet worked almost instantly without any setup. Netgear Wireless Printer Server actually has two USB ports that allow you to connect up to two printers. The installation can be a bit tricky -- you first have to connect (via wire) directly to one of the four wired ports in order to give it the WEP key to your Wireless Router access. If you pass this step, the rest of the setup/installation is pretty much automatic -- just watch it run. 20 minutes is all it takes, with all three laptops connected and printed successfully to the printer.
Now, Vista users out there, you will be able to connect to the printer port (local TCP/IP connection) with ease. But, you will have to find online the printer drive to support your printer on Vista. (I have a Canon i860 and have to go to Canon website to download the driver for Vista.) Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Printing and Bridging Thursday, February 15, 2007 A Customer from Hampton, New Hampshire
Netgear's WGPS606 wireless print server plays two roles in my network. I am using it in a room of my house without Cat5e wiring and it print serves an USB HP Color Deskjet 3745. Additionally, I use two of its switch's ethernet ports. One is attached to an HP 300x Jetdirect print server, handling a parallel HP Laserjet 6P, while the other port in use is attached to a Trendnet TS-U200 multi-card reader, NAS device.
My only complaint with this device comes with setup. The documentation is not sufficient and configuring a wireless device like this requires connecting it to a networked PC first before putting it online. To get other computers to recognize the shared printer required manual TCP/IP port creation. None of the automated procedures on the CD worked for me. Didn't seem to support RAW, rather I had to use LPR protocols. It also wasn't very clear what the MAC Address was as this device has two of them. If you're MAC filtering, you can easily be confused.
Once you work through the manual frustrations, the device performs the tasks it is defined for well.

5 of 5 Great print server Wednesday, February 14, 2007 Aaron from Holdrege, NE
Installation was finicky; took 3-4 tries before the setup application would find the print server. Setup after that was easy. Configuring printers and computers was straight forward. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Wireless Bridge Monday, November 13, 2006 RouterRooter from San Diego, CA
I was looking for a wireless bridge or access point to bring connectivity from my wireless router to two home offices. This device did a good enough job that I now have two of them. Note you will need to access it directly to configure your wireless SSID and key. It supports the latest PKE security protocol. The installation CD wasn't very intuitive (even for an old neteng) but if you dig, you'll find the full manual and IP address needed to log into it and configure. It takes interference from my 2.4Ghz cordless phone, but I am not running real-time apps over it so no worries - it just bogs down a bit when I'm on the phone. You'll need USB to connect your printer(s). Was this review helpful?

This is the only printer server, of which I am aware, that allows you to wirelessly network two USB printers and also connect four other network-ready devices such as computers or other devices with a CAT-5 connection. The included configuration disk works okay for setting the IP address of this device, but that's about it. Assuming that you have encrypted your Wi-Fi signal source, you'll need to use the included CAT-5 cable and your Web browser to log into this print server and install the encryption keys. Two USB printer cables are also included. A good knowledge of TCP/IP networking will be required to get everything working with your printer(s). On each computer from which you will be printing, you'll need to create a Standard TCP/IP port and configure it correctly for LPR BEFORE installing your printer drivers. Once that is done you'll be ready to print. This print server is working about 100 feet from my Wi-Fi signal source (a LinkSys router with SRX200) and its performance is solid, fast and reliable. Notebook/laptop computers logged into the network can print wirelessly as reliably as if they were connected directly to the printer as can desktop computers hard-wired to the network. This product really is set and forget. Since I set it up, I was able to get roommates and friends on-line to use it. You basically print to it like any other printer hooked directly onto your computer. Since I got it, which is about 6 months back, I have not reset it once. There are 3 things to note: 1) The only time it fails is when the main wireless access point fails. 2) You have run VPN to your corporate network, your corporate network may block you from using the printer in your home network. There is nothing you can do about it except to disconnect from the VPN and then print what you need. 3) Even though it comes with a good wizard to help you set it up, it may still be daunting to someone not technically inclined, so you may want to have someone comfortable with networking setup nearby. This is a great way to extend your LAN too. This unit connects to your existing LAN using WiFi OR Cable so you can have a Cable Modem / Router and LAN upstairs and this unit serving another 4 computers and 2 printers downstairs....all LAN resources are connected via WEP WiFi.
More features than I expected. Was this review helpful?

I was impressed with the ease of set up. It's a relatively good value and gives you the ability to actually set up a couple of printers if you have them "buried" out of the way. Was this review helpful?

If you have one or more devices you need to hook up to your wireless LAN and don't want to buy wireless adaptors for each, this is the perfect solution! It will act just like a switch except for that it's wireless. Setting it up easy with a web browser. It's reliable and fast. I have Sony Playstation II, ReplayTV, and a computer hooked up to it and it has been working flawlessly for a month now. Was this review helpful?
