    1 of 5 Doesn't work with D-link router Sunday, May 18, 2008
    nealobert@comcast.net from Tucson, AZ

Purchased unit based on price and reviews but the Netgear wireless AP would not talk to my D-Link router. Tech supprt was non existant. On hold for 45 minutes and they never picked me up. Tried twice. Returned product.

1 of 5 Repeater requires WDS at the other end Sunday, March 02, 2008
    Andrew C. from Oakland, CA
Some wireless repeaters / range extenders are more "universal". That is they just need the SSID, channel, and security settings and will rebroadcast to the original AP or router. This is not one of those. You need to enter the MAC address of the router/AP and then enable that on the router/AP. This is more of a WDS peer to peer bridge with wireless client access type of connection vs. a basic repeater. Because of this I couldn't use it as a repeater with my 2Wire gateway/router. This should have been more clear in the specs. Their newer AP's say that they are WDS repeaters, not universal. This one didn't. I got a Linksys range expander to replace and it does it the job fine.

5 of 5 Simple to install - Great performance Saturday, December 01, 2007
    Larry from Colfax, LA
My home network is set up using a 10/100 network switch and my broadband satellite modem (Hughesnet HN7000S) controls DHCP (which can't be turned off in the modem). A wireless router was therefore not the answer for me. I simply connected the Netgear WG602 Wireless Access Point to a free port on my network switch and didn't have to change a single setting. 5 out of 5 reception all over downstairs in my home and 3 out of 5 in the most remote point upstairs. Excellent internet connection speed. If you are simply wanting to add wireless access to an existing network, this is the product for you.

4 of 5 Good gadget, poor documentation Monday, November 26, 2007
    Rob from Indianapolis, IN
I'm a networking journeyman, I know enough to be dangerous but not enough to be 100% effective. I bought this device to use in one of two ways. The ideal way would be as a bridge/repeater. The device supports it but I eventually discovered my main router (WGR614v4) does not support distributed wireless. This took way too long to discover, instead it would have been nice to learn early on that your router must support Y protocol. The second way to use it was as a simple bridge. I now have this working by putting it into "client" mode. The description of this mode leaves much to be desired but effectively it allows a wired component to talk to the wireless router. Good for a slingbox, PS2, or other non-wireless device in a wireless home.

4 of 5 Works great so far - with caveats Sunday, August 12, 2007
    M. Micklatcher from Hayward, CA
This was purchased to extend wireless to a part of my home that had poor signal. My network environment is mixed (Mac + PC). Upon initial setup, the AP worked intermittantly. As it turns out, you NEED to upgrade the firmware on this unit to the latest version. Once the firmware was upgraded, the unit has been flawless. Macs and PCs all connect nicely now. firmware available at: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WG602.asp Also, if you are using (or intend to use) a Mac on this network, DO NOT use the WEP encryption. Macs are not compatible with WEP encryption. WEP is only marginally better than using nothing at all for security anyway. If you're willing to do a bit of behind the scenes upgrading of software and network configuring (beyond what is available on the installation CD), then this is a great unit.

5 of 5 Easy to setup and use Tuesday, July 10, 2007
    Jeff from Mount Laurel, NJ
This unit was very easy to setup. Although I have worked with computers and hard-wired networks for years, this was my first experience with wireless. You can use the unit right out of the box with minimum setup, but it is not secured. This unit was connected (via Ethernet cable & switch) to a desktop computer and using the web-browser based configuration software, I was able to setup a secure, encrypted wireless LAN in very little time. Setting up another computer to use this new wireless connection was also fairly straight forward.

5 of 5 it just works! Tuesday, December 13, 2005
Art B. upstate NY from Canandaigua NY
Take it out of the box, follow some basic directions and you've setup a secure wireless access device in about 10 minutes. Don't need to be tech savey. Just read the directions and presto!

5 of 5 HOW I EXTENDED MY WIRED NETWORK EASILY Monday, November 15, 2004
Dr. Jefferson Hatch from Newton, NJ
I already had a wired network, but wanted to add wireless so I could use a couple of old laptops. I plugged in the Netgear WAP (wireless access point) into my router, installed the drivers on one of those networked computers, plugged in a wireless card into a laptop and immediately I had extended my network all over the house. Now my teenaged boys can sit in their room and type a paper, print it out downstairs on our printer, IM their friends, and even download at broadband speeds since we've done this. Netgear has a super-reputation and top reviews for its range and ease of use, and I would recommend that anyone with an existing wired network just add this WAP, and you'll be glad you did.

5 of 5 Netgear never lets me down Tuesday, October 05, 2004
    Zizzybaloobah from Baltimore, MD
I already owned a Netgear Ethernet Router, and have been very pleased with it, so when I needed wireless connectivity, I naturally stayed with Netgear. This wireless router was easy to setup, has been trouble-free, and I've had no problem connecting laptops, PC's, handhelds, or other devices. Other brands may be more popular or well-known, but Netgear is the one to trust.

5 of 5 Version 2 has WDS which works great! Friday, August 27, 2004
    A Customer from Plano, TX
Needed to bridge another ethernet network in my house and still provide wireless client access. This is the least expensive unit I could find that has WDS support.

    5 of 5 NETGEAR WG602 - Great performance Tuesday, September 02, 2003
    A Customer from Iselin, NJ
I used the NETGEAR WG602 with a D-Link wireless card, it works great. I installed the access point on the 2nd floor of my house and had full 54 mbs transfer rate on most of the first floor in my house. This was the cheapest 802.11g access point I found on the website. Setup was easy. As soon as I plugged it in, it worked. I then tweaked with the settings afterwords. I am 100% satisified.

    5 of 5 Wonderful product Friday, June 20, 2003
    bt from Arlington, TX
I used linksys for 802.11b and switched to Netgear for 802.11g and am very satisfied. It was plug-and-play after software installation and the unit looks great. Didn't have to make a single adjustment. Netgear will be my choice for home networking for the forseeable future.
