NETGEAR SPH200D DECT Skype Phone
TweakTown
Published on: 11/7/2007 1:05 AM
The Netgear SPH200D is quite different from most other Skype phones to date, although it does have competitors. By relying on DECT rather than Wi-Fi it can also be used as a normal cordless phone which is pretty cool. It's also easy to install as you don't really have to set anything up, just plug a few wires in. The SPH200D is made up of two main parts, the base station and the handset....read the full review

5 of 5 Incredible product! Saturday, June 07, 2008
A Customer from Charlotte, NC

This is one purchase where the product turned out to be more than I expected. Installation was as easy as plugging it into the router and using the phone immediately. The money I save will pay for the phone in just three months. The call quality is better than I could have imagined based upon my research. You can even buy up to three more handsets and use all of them at home simultaneously for no extra cost. Imagine having four phone lines at no cost. I have used up to two at one time personally. The speaker phone is fantastic for such a small unit. This is by far one of the best purchases I have made in the past few years. My estimate is that cost savings to my family will be over six-hundred dollars per year after the phone purchase savings have been realized.

4 of 5 Excellent Phone-High Price Tuesday, June 03, 2008
A Customer from Bartlesville, OK
Bought this phone to replace a General Electric Skype phone which went dead (do not buy GE). This is actually the second we bought. Bought the first one for my daughter. She has been using it for over a year and loves it. Clear reception on both Skype and Landline. Installation was plug and play simple. Everything recognized everything else the first time and has no trouble returning to operational status when power fails. It has a cell-phone feel to it. Would have given 5 of 5 but I have two concerns. Construction seems slightly lightweight. I would be afraid to drop the hand unit. Secondly, the price is way too high. Needs to be more reasonable. However, it operates trouble-free. I will probably add an additional handset in the near future. Wouldn't hesitate to buy again and recommend you buy.

5 of 5 Overall this is a great phone. Thursday, April 17, 2008
A Customer from SLC, UT
I bought this a couple weeks to replace my landline. Overall it has saved me about 40$ a month. The call quality has been great, the phone performs very well. My only gripe is with Skype, when you call out to another phone, it wont display to the other person the # you are calling from. It says "Unknown" on their caller ID. Other than that, I really like the phone, and the product itself is great. Reccomend you buy it.

5 of 5 Great Idea, Great Product Saturday, February 23, 2008
Brandon J. from Castle Rock, CO
The phone works great! It works exactly as advertised. I didn't even have to use the install CD. I just plugged in the router, and logged into my Skype account through the phone, and I was ready to go. The investment in this phone saves me about $45/ mo in phone bills. Well worth the money!

5 of 5 Easier to install than a printer Saturday, February 23, 2008
vvolkman from Ann Arbor, MI
Literally, I just plugged the darn thing into the closest Ethernet switch, answered some simple questions like "What's your area code?" and linked it to a Skype account I had just opened online (but never used). It shares all the data with your Skype account so you can do contact management online and its automatically synchronized. I get nice clean calls with the comfort and convenience of a cordless. My existing 3.5mm jack headsets worked just fine. Wish I could just ditch all my hardlines now! DECT doesn't hurt our existing wireless-N network at all. Also I realize it is probably the #2 most expensive Skypephone but you will thank yourself that you did not buy a cheap little box.

4 of 5 Good for mixed landline and Skype use Tuesday, October 16, 2007
A Customer from Dallas, Texas
Touch Tone (DTMF) works quite well, allowing you to enter voicemail and conference call passwords without problems, which I heard is an issue on dual mode Skype phones from other manufacturers. It would be nice to be able to configure whether a particular contact should be dialed using the landline or using Skype, but as far as I know none of the dual mode Skype phones allow that. Voice quality is nice, and the speakerphone is clear and loud. Range seems better than the Linksys WRT54G WiFi which I placed in the same spot in my house. There is an accessory handset (SPH150D) which is identical to the main unit's handset and I haven't had any problems getting them to work together.

5 of 5 Using for VOIP and Love It Thursday, August 23, 2007
Lee from Boise, Idaho
have had it online for a week and found it very easy to setup and use. I've used Skype for over a year and this is the first solo phone solution that I've liked enough to buy the hardware. I don't have a traditional landline and want to keep it that way. My kids and in-laws equally find it easy to use. I have a SkypeIn acct so people call my "home line" and phone rings. Plan on adding a second phone so that one phone can be upstairs and one downstairs. Love the DECT feature and intercom feature between phones. Only bug I've found (and it probably is skype) is that when I call out caller ID on other side shows unknown. I plan on raising that with Skype.

5 of 5 Works for me... Sunday, August 12, 2007
joao from Birmingham AL
I actually canceled my land line to use this phone, let's see $100.00 unlimited Long Distance, or $600.00 per year plus Long Distance? The service has worked good, the phone was easy to set up (read the instructions). I gave it a fix IP address, and off it goes. Good sound quality, easy of use. We use it daily as a regular phone, definetly worth the investment and since we also have Mobile phones, 911 service is alway available. Interesting note, when I canceled my land line, I noticed that I still had ring tone, but when I tried to dial call a recorded message came on and said "this line can only make 911 calls", interesting, so I still have 911 service on the land line and cheap phone calling anywhere in the US! You have to like modern technology..:-)

5 of 5 Works perfectly Monday, June 04, 2007
A Customer from Salt Lake City, UT
Not sure it's worth as much as I paid, but it works very well right out of the box. Didn't take any time at all to set up. Just follow the directions and you're good to go!

5 of 5 just like hybird car mileage varies Thursday, May 03, 2007
A Customer from Havertown, PA
Use ip tech to save phone call expense but it was locked to Skype's rate, performance and tech improvement in future. BUY.com's price has increased after my purchase so it must be the demand and supply issue. I experienced 2 connection drops during skypeout within a month. Overall, for me it's a saving plan to fill up my cell night and weekend calling gap.

5 of 5 2-in-1 money saving machine Saturday, April 21, 2007
A Customer from Havertown, PA
This handy wireless handset can make a landline and skype call without interfering 2.4k wireless router/networking devices and expandable to 3 more handsets, voice quality is good enough, rechargeable/replaceable 750mAh nickel metal hydride AAA battery. Hopefully skype's calling rate stays low but compare to cell phone and landline rate it's a cost saving machine.

4 of 5 Does what you'd expect Monday, April 02, 2007
Olle Pellijeff from Chicago, IL
The phone is real easy to set up and configure. Clear and rather high resolution screen with an intuitive GUI. Ugly ring tones, but otherwise no gripes about the product. Overall I'm happy with this phone. I use it with Skype in/out connected straight to a LinkSys WCG200 and ComCast and I'm having quite a lot of issues with voice quality overseas. That is a Skype issue rather than the phone though.

4 of 5 nice product, but a few hicups setting it up Saturday, February 17, 2007
A Customer from New York, NY
I bought this product for my parents to make international long distance calls for cheap. I received the product a few weeks ago and plugged it in. It would not work on the first try. I had to open a ticket with Netgear to troubleshoot it. It happens that my router is a bit old (802.11b), so I had to download the latest software. After I downloaded the upgrade, things worked fine. The product is great for my parents, since they are not active computer users. I feel the product is a bit pricey, but I know my parents will make enough calls to make it worthwhile. They had been complaining of having to be sitting in front of the computer to make calls.
