| | | NETGEARs popular FS100 series desktop switches, known for its reliability and performance, provide your LAN with high-speed, 10/100 Mbps auto-sensing connectivity for as many as 5, 8, or 16 users. Just plug in your Ethernet cables, connect a power cord, and youre ready to go-theres no software to configure. They negotiate to the fastest possible connection and with Auto Uplink technology, these switches automatically figure out if the link needs a straightthrough or cross-over connection, and makes the right choice. Existing 10BASE-T devices are easily integrated within higher bandwidth environments, with full wire speeds on all ports of either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps. Engineered without the need for internal fans, they operate silently. And each of these very compact switches is housed in a sturdy metal case for years of dependable use.

I purchased this item several months ago, and recently half the ports just stopped working. Seems there are lots of small problems with this unit from what I have read. The unit was still covered under Netgear's warranty, but they sent me back a very old model, that looked horrible. I am currently in the middle of trying to get a NEW replacement. My overall opinion, buy another brand. There should not be this many problems with a switch. Was this review helpful?

I've been through five models and three versions of the Netgear FS 108 Fast Etherswitch and have had seven power supplies die on me in the last two years, and no luck finding a replacement supply, from Netgear (or whomever owns Bay Networking) nor an after-market one. The three versions all have different power requirements. How hard is it to sell a piece of hardware like this and spend the extra $3 for a decent power supply that'll last 20 years.
Linksys gets my business exclusively now and always will. Anyone need some powerless Netgear switches? Was this review helpful?

Interesting reading the other reviews describing problems with the power supply. I also had an FS108 which worked fine until the power supply died. The power supply appears to cost over $20, and nobody has one. I think I'll try a different brand this time.
The switch itself seems fine, a small, utilitarian design with the ports and LED's all on the front of the unit. Port #8 has an uplink button to switch between connection to a host or to another switch or hub. Was this review helpful?

Switches are becoming very popular this days since the hubs are becoming obsolete in collition of packets. I just got the Netgear FS108 and it seem to be a wonderfull product in all aspects. It comes with 8 ports in aliment shape to keep track of cables in line as well Netgear include LED's in each of the ports "I guest to ensure connectivity between the connector of the cable and the actual port". This product comes with a uplink bottom whcih allow one to have a dedicated port for DSL sharing it with the rest of the network. In the same way Netgear bunddle a 5 years warranty of replacement. If you are interesting in a switch that will use a true 10/100Mb/s network trafic and is easy to use as well as an economical invesment from a respected company, I would surelly recoment you buy the Netgear FS108. Exellent product at a exellent price!!! Was this review helpful?

I have several of these switches over here and ALL OF THEM have really bad power connector. Even tiniest movement disconnects it. Also, two of them are lying broken on the shelf as their power supplies just went bad (all equipment protected with UPSes). So if you're looking for any sort of reliability, do not buy these. I used to really like Netgear stuff, it was a good value and just worked. Maybe this switch was just a lemon but after owning it for a year or so the power connector started to go out. It would just reset itself when some tiny vibration jiggled it. It finally got so bad that the switch would just sit there tweaking out in reset mode. I guess I should have gotten the extended warranty, or a different switch. Was this review helpful?
