I out grew my 8 port 10/100 Switch and needed a replacement. To be able to upgrade to a 16 port 10/100/1000 switch for this amount of money was a no-brainer. Switch gets warm but not hot.
Pro Comments: Speed, number of ports, lights, size (fits nicely on my shelf), ease of use, and totally silent (no fan). 5 year warranty.
Con Comments: size (this could be a negative, only 11" wide), not managed (at this price range-get real!). Was this review helpful?

Item works as advertised. I was fully aware that the price was low because it is an unmanaged switch. The only issue (which is not a major one) is that it gets really hot. I know that this is supposed to be a fanless design but I think that their decision to build it with or without one could have gone either way. I keep the unit in the basement with the ambient temperature fairly cool. I can't imagine this unit surviving in a warm room on a hot summer day.
I have 6 gigabit and 9 100Mb connections into it. The rise in temperature appears to be caused by activity. So if all the devices attached to this thing were gigabit and all ports populated, I would expect the heat to spike. Was this review helpful?

The unit is compact and solidly built. It's a little more expensive than consumer brands, but it provides the features I need. It worked perfectly out of the box and, after 3 weeks, continues to operate flawlessly (as you would expect from a "simple" network switch). Was this review helpful?

This Netgear Prosafe switch is clean, low profile, with low power consumption, no noisy fan, and no set up. Combine all that with Netgear offering a mail-in rebate and this switch is a clear winner. I have just added four new computers to my network with Gigabit NIC's and am enjoying the gigabit capability of my new Netgear Gigabit switch with it's downward compatibility for my remaining 100Base T machines. This hardware mounts on the inside of the Leviton wire closet nicely. Along with Leviton's Advanced Media punch down panel, this piece of hardware allows your home to have gigabit ethernet available in just about any location. All this plus it's a reliable workhorse.
