4 of 5 Power out? otherwise Great Thursday, December 23, 2004 Brian from OR
This modem is very simple to setup and use. The only downsides are: it must be started and allowed to completely boot before turning on the router and when power is lost the unit remains off. Was this review helpful?

I purchased this modem in February. About two months ago I noticed that my wireless Internet connection was being dropped. About two weeks ago connection was slow and dropped on wired PCs. I continuously reset both router and modem. I contacted my ISP and they came out today and said there was a problem with the modem. When the picked the unit up, the lights went on and off, but cable was still tight in the back. The unit runs very hot. I called Netgear customer support which is located in India. I had trouble communicating the problem. The customer service rep was difficult to understand. He continued to read from a script. He would not give me an RMA number. He said I would have to call back if the modem went down again. Guess what, it crashed about 4 hours later. Now I have to call back up and ship my modem off for a replacement. They charge for shipping and $30 if you want it overnight. I was renting a Motorola modem from my ISP for two years previously and I never had a problem. I am going to trash this one and purchase something else. Was this review helpful?

This is the second NetGear networking product that I have purchased in the past six months. The CM212 is a great modem with a small foot print which was very easy to set up and get running. After I got it provisioned by my cable access provider and into their network the modem started working immediately. Surely, with the rebate that is going on now this is a "best buy" product for those who chose not to rent a modem from their local cable access provider. I am glad that I made the decision to purchase the NetGear CM212. With the CM212 coupled to my NetGear RP614 router I am now using all NetGear products for my home networking. This is one great little NetGear modem! Was this review helpful?

So far, its not a bad product, been using the CM212 for about a week. Was easy enough to set up and register on my cable providers network. The only problem I had with it was the provider I use has never heard of netgear. Yes, that is what they said. :) Anyway, I recommend it. Great warranty, and very small footprint.
