| | | NETGEAR s GS605 5-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch connects your network with the dual advantages of performance and convenience. As a fast, auto-switching Ethernet connection, the GS605 integrates both Fast Ethernet and Gigabit devices into your networksupporting both Windows and Macintosh platforms at speeds up to 10 times faster than Fast Ethernet. Every port automatically senses the right speed and full/half duplex mode, while dual-color LEDs make it easy to monitor link, speed and activity. Auto Uplink technology adjusts for either of the two common kinds of cables; and with its embedded Plug-and-Play technology, you simply turn it on and it works. All this in NETGEARs compact signature design, plus a convenient stand for vertical positioning.

5 of 5 No complaints Thursday, May 08, 2008 Ken from Pittsburgh, PA
This is one of those items that you basically plug in and it works. Reasonably priced, and it transparently does its job. I'd be inclined to blame any network hiccups we occasionally have here at home on the main router/DSL modem, not this device. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Works well Sunday, May 04, 2008 A Customer from AZ
This was a great switch for my simple home network. There was no setup needed. I just plugged in my ethernet cables and it worked out of the box. I am pleased so far. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great little Gibabit Switch Monday, December 03, 2007 Randy from Phoenix, AZ
I already have two of these Netgear Switches in my LAN and am going to add a third. Fantastic little Gibabit switch.
Completely plug and play, they just work, and I've never had one need to be power cycled. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works as expected Thursday, November 29, 2007 A Customer from Novato, CA
I have two of these switches now, and both work perfectly. Netgear makes great switches. I replaced a flaky ABS switch with this. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Does the job quite well Tuesday, November 27, 2007 Jay from Edmond, OK
Not much to a switch. Plug it in and go. This copper gigabit switch does exactly that. Most of the machines in my home network are 10/100 but my notebook is 10/100/1000. The switch connects it at 1 gig about half the time. I suspect the issue of not connecting at 1 gig all the time has to do with my older CAT5 wiring. Be certain you are wired with really good CAT5e or CAT6. Good switch for the money. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Good switch huge glitch Saturday, November 10, 2007 A Customer from Wallington, New Jersey
I have just tested it on my LAN when it was connected to router (and router to the switch). Together with Verizon technician I was able to discover that this is the culprit as far as speed access to Internet. Yes it is fast for Gigabit, but it has huge problem with Internet packets at the same time. The speed when simply bypassing the switch was 2-2.5Mbit/second. the same configuration, but on switch there is ony one computer and it has speed to Internet (downstream) of only 0.5 Mbit/second. I do not know of this new QoS implemented in it, but perhaps it was not done properly by Netgear. I am getting another switch because this one is not acceptable in my network. I hope that Linksys or DLink offers something better. I amy give shot Netgear GS105 that looks more professional and perhaps does not have this problem. Some stores will now see me buyng and returning gear just because manufaturers do not live up to quality/performance. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 It just works Tuesday, July 03, 2007 scott@t2labs.com from Jacksonville, FL
Fast, looks nice, no configuration, no heat, no noise, it just works like it is supposed to. I even like the configuration of the power cord, as it is small and fits into surge protectors easily. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Awesome Sunday, May 27, 2007 A Customer from Provo, UT
Thing I like best is that I don't even know it's there...My old Belkin slowed things down. This switch keeps both computers that are connected to it running fast and smooth... Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy to use and fast Friday, May 25, 2007 JesseRPI from Conshohocken, PA
Couldn't have been any easier to set up, and is plenty fast as long as you're connecting to GB ethernet. Was this review helpful?

Needed the flexibility of port speed, quick startup and good pricing - NetGear fit the bill. No fumbling with the product - starts up right out of the box. Was this review helpful?

I want to inform people that I used to have a linksys 5 port fast ethernet switch (100mbps) and when I wanted to transfer large files from or to my xbox the connection would sometimes time out for some reason. I tried troubleshooting this and couldn't figure it out? So I saw this great deal for a gigabit switch for around 29 after rebate and I thought it won't hurt to try it. I have a 2 xbox's, 1 linux desktop, 1 winbloz xp desktop, and a roommate that has winbloz xp al sharing an internet connection and all my computers share files and use the linux desktop as there backup server. When I tried this thing out, awesome!!! No more timing out and I was transferring files a little faster then the fast ethernet switch, it makes a huge difference on smaller files but only a little difference on large files but at least now I can count on a 3.9 gb file completely transferring without me having to check on it and restart the transfer. I use FlashFXP as my ftp client and avalaunch 49.3 (I think) as the ftp server on my xbox's. This is great!!! It also compliments my netgear router I already have, so now my router can just be a router/dhcp server instead of a router, switch, and a dhcp server and this way, if I do ever need anymore spots, i'll just connect to the router, there's 4 open ports on the router. The Netgear switches keep getting better and better. This model comes with a much smaller power supply than the older ones do. Like other gigabit switches it does run rather hot. The colors on the front number-shaped lights are easy on the eyes and not too distracting. Performance is very good especially with the new jumbo frame support. Was this review helpful?
