Walsh) in a story honed with spiraling tension and volatile action. In a dazzling series of twists and gambits, Roman and Sabian face off against time and each other.
 Editor's Note
Jackson plays Danny Roman, a cop who, anxious to clear himself of false accusations, takes a group of people hostage and requests the presence of a fellow officer from another precinct. Spacey plays Chris Sabian, a hostage specialist, the Negotiator, who comes in to try and defuse the situation and bring Roman in. He is not prepared for what he hears and the city isn't ready for what they do.

"I only want to talk to Chris Sabian" says Danny Roman (the indefatigable Samuel L. Jackson) about 40 minutes into F. Gary Gray's cop thriller The Negotiator. Roman is the best negotiator on Chicago's East Side. At least he used to be: In the film's galloping first quarter, we see Danny informed of a conspiracy in his department -- something about a disability fund -- right before he is framed for the murder of his partner. In an eruption of frustration and anger, he takes four people hostage in an office building, including his friend Cmdr. Frost (Ron Rifkin) and Niebaum (J.T. Walsh), the internal affairs thug who brought him in....read the full review |

4 of 5 Very good movie but... Sunday, May 26, 2002 A Viewer from NYC
...but its not as good as one might think. Kevin Spacey and Samual Jackson does a great job. It is a great thriller but not much of an action movie. There are some quite impressive sequences. But compare to movies like Die Hard...this one isnt as great.
Like any first generation DVDs, there arent much extras...
Basically you're just getting a better version of the movie.
This is one of those late night movies you want to watch if you have insomnia. Was this review helpful?

When I saw the Negotiator for the first time, it was incredible. I've never seen a greater movie than this one. A sure 10 of 10. The suspense is breath taking and it left me at the edge of my seat. See this movie, and you'll feel the same!!!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Never say 'no' to a hostage-taker Sunday, June 27, 1999 don1 from Houston, TX
Action/Mystery. Very good acting. Completly rediculous plot allows the action to flow without the encumbrance of believablity. Jackson and Spacey work well together. Recomended. Was this review helpful?
