Bought this monitor to use with my 3 year old VAIO TR laptop. Much to my surprise, it took only a few minutes to set-up. The images are extremely sharp and vivid (maybe a bit too bright even with contrast and brightness turned low). I'm thinking of buying another one for work. Was this review helpful?

Purchased to hook up to a PS3 through HDMI and watch blu-ray movies in 1080p. Hitachi has a comparable monitor, but is the 3rd NEC monitor I've owned and never had a problem with any of them (replaced by newer models, not because they failed). Haven't watched any blu-ray yet, but been using the monitor for the last week or so with DVI (1920x1200, even comes with the cable!) from a Ferrari 4000 laptop for both regular computer tasks (word processing/web stuff) and watching DVDS. Far more than enough monitor for those needs.<BR>

Pros:<BR>
Huge display area, mind boggling resolution, sharp contrast, and fine detail. Easy to open two web browsers and operate them side by side. Even small text is quite readable. Small footprint (with the included stand) and large display area means you can push the monitor far back on a desk and have plenty of room for a keyboard/books/etc. Built in speakers and headphone jack are a bonus, as are the fact it doesn't weigh too terribly much.

Cons:<BR>
Don't believe the 170+ degree viewing angle. From as little as 45 degrees off of center the brightness is reduced and the color changes. Yes, from almost 90 degrees off you can still read the text, but the image quality is greatly reduced. Watching DVDs and .avi files is somewhat less than optimal: the large screen area highlights any flaws in the source, but hey, that's what HD DVD/blu-ray is for, right?

I also had some random "there isn't a pc signal connected" problems for a while, but that may be on the PC end and not the monitor, and those have reduced greatly in frequency anyway. Still was a bit of a shock to plug in a brand new monitor and have the screen go blank for a few seconds every 10 or so minutes. An upgrade of video card drivers seems to have solved the problem.
