4 of 5 It's good Wednesday, December 03, 2008
Raj from Lone Tree CO

It's good for the price I paid.Calculates routes dynamically if missed the way. The draw back is, it has old map so any new construction is not there.

3 of 5 With the Pocket Loox N100, you get what you pay fo Sunday, May 25, 2008
John Dawson from Los Angeles, CA
... which isn't a whole lot. In other words, don't expect that this device will deliver all that a high priced Garmin might have. However, if you're looking for a device to get you from point A to point B, with a little technical futzing initially to make sure the device is set up properly, then yea... this device is for you. It does everything that it says it does, except it's true that it has a very slow startup. However, it'll give you a great opportunity to learn patience. Also, note that it does not have geo coordinate lookup, for you geo cachers out there. (Although it's fairly easy to come close since it shows you the exact coordinates). Also, note that mine has lost the GPS positioning a few times, and this will lock up the device until you reset the settings, pop out the battery and back in, and wait 20 minutes. Even with all that, I'm still happy enough with it that I chose to keep it b/c the price is great.

4 of 5 I like this GPS Sunday, April 27, 2008
Capt22 from PA
This was my first GPS, so I really do not have anything to compare performance to. But, in the week I have had this one, I have found it to do everything that I expected from it. An excellent value for the price, the N100 performs very well. It takes a little while on first boot-up before you can use it, but I kind of expected that and it may be related to being able to pick up proper signals in the rather mountainous area I live in. Plenty of options when setting it up, and the routing seems to be pretty accurate. The MP3 player, video player, and graphics viewer are a bonus. The volume on the voice prompts could stand to be a bit louder. One thing I do suggest --- ditch the very poor headphones they include with it, they are not very good. I have watched the pricing on this model since around Christmas, watching go up and down with the demand for it. When I saw it hit $120 at buy.com, I bought it, and I am glad I did. I would recommend it as an entry level GPS for somebody that needs a basic GPS.

5 of 5 This product is Jazzie Monday, April 21, 2008
T. A. from McDonough, GA
This navigator was so good (on my first road trip with it) that we had to give her a name. We named her Jazzie. She was just too jazzy for us. With Jazzie you don't even have to know the name of the street you're turning on. She just says "NOW, turn right or left". She even know when the traffic is going to slow you down and tells you how long its going to take you to get there. I would recommend this item to anyone who like to travel without getting lost.

4 of 5 Missing items, but works fine Tuesday, April 08, 2008
A Customer from Chicago IL
My package (recertified) also missing software CD and manual. Called customer service and received CD in 3 days. There are some delayed processing time, I guess it gets a slow processor inside. But it works fine as a GPS. Address is not very updated. But small size, very user friendly, very portable. Good value for the price.

5 of 5 Great features for the cost and size (once you fig Thursday, April 03, 2008
A Customer from Tulsa, OK
First off, the size is phenomenal. I couldn't believe how small it was when I opened the box. It really does fit in your palm and carries very easy in a purse or briefcase. I was pleasantly surprised at how accurate the directions were (the most important thing) but also at the other options included for the price. Like points of interest, speed limit monitoring, and a ton of configurable options for your display preferences and route planning. Tried deviating from a course and it recalculated shockingly fast without requesting pesky u-turns. Battery life is average I think, so for trips more than a few hours be sure to bring the car charger along. Also can take a while to acquire a satellite on start up, but again I think this is common. Only complaint was that the manual was not included so I bumbled through the screens for a while before getting the hang of it. Overall, two big thumbs up!!

5 of 5 Dudes - this is hackable!! Wednesday, April 02, 2008
A Customer from Dallas,TX
I got this several months ago and loved it, if you can put up with it being a little slow. However, the best thing that I found out by chance was this thing is really a pocket pc and you can unlock it to use it as a terrain mapping gps in addition to a car gps, and also as a pocket pc. Do a search for "n100" and outdoors-magazine.com or a search for unlock n100 on gpspassions.com or in google. James on outdoors-magazine.com has the best and easiest method.

2 of 5 Still waiting for all of components from Navigon Friday, March 28, 2008
Tami Dal Santo from Sturgeon Bay, WI
I purchased this product from buy.com on Feb 20th and called Navigon immediately to complain about lack of components not included in the box. It was missing the stylus, manual, dvd or cds, warranty. I faxed in a copy of my receipt of purchase and proof of identity, all on the same day. I have yet to receive anything from Navigon or even an email confirming they received the info requested. I am quite disappointed as today is March 28th and it's been over 1 month.Has anyone actually recieved the stuff from them they promised? I am not holding my breath. FYI there web site sucks. I tried sending emails to tech support and they were returned as unsendable? What? Lesson learned....you get what you pay for.

3 of 5 Not a bad device Friday, March 28, 2008
A Customer from Union, KY
I bought this because the size intriqued me. It is pocket-sized as advertised, but its ability to pick up the GPS signal is not that good. Entering addresses is cumbersome, you have to first scroll through Canada and its provinces. Then you need to scroll through the US until you come to the state you wish to travel ( a task if you do a lot of traveling in Utah!). The voice is scratchy and the volume control "iffy." For a GPS that is a novelty I recommend this product. For a GPS that you need for serious trips you may look at other products.

5 of 5 Spectacular bargain Saturday, March 22, 2008
hiphoptwo from Clemmons, NC
My N100 arrived without a manual. I was able to use it immediately with a little experimentation. Now that the manual has arrived and I have made several trips with it, I find it to be about perfect. I wanted a Tom-Tom, but this was a spectacular bargain. Nearly all navigators use Navteq maps and SiRF Technology GPS units, so form and function is what your choices boil down to. I really like the N100s speed function. It gives a verbal warning when you exceed the speed limit by your own set amount. Locally we have some rather arbitrary speed limits on the Interstate, which seem to serve only as speed traps. The N100 alerts me as soon as I cross into these speed zones - amazing! It also alerts me to change lanes when approaching a fork in the interstate. Our local Interstates kiss and cross each other several times and if you take the wrong fork, you can go a long way before you can turn around and go back. The N100 tells me 2 miles in advance to move to the correct lane(s). My only regret is it doesn't have a choice of voices.

3 of 5 Great for taking the LONG way home and a bit too s Wednesday, March 19, 2008
fsthebook from North Arlington, NJ
From start to finish- first I had the same problems as many others, that is missing parts. An internal QC issue no doubt but the company was very good and very quick to rectify. Buy.com was also good at helping to provide info for this. Support from Navigon despite what others have said, I found to be excellent. As far as price, great at $100.00! I also had a coupon for an additional 50 so it was a real bargain at that. The unit pulls in a GPS signal very very well. It even pulled in SAT signals while playing with it inside my house. My Garmin Street Pilot doesnt have the sensitivity this does and it cost originally 8 x's more. AMAZING. So as far as the usage that way great. However, I would not pay more for it as so many times the routing was a mystery! read on- Now for the negatives- TOO SMALL. You need a copilot to take the thing and hold it up to your eyes if you want to read anything on it. Routing is as others have said, not the best. It does get you eventually to your destination but numerous times has taken the LONG way around for no apparent reason. I tried it returning from JFK airport to NJ and a 1 hour trip became a vacation! Also to view the street list for text of the trip route is almost impossible! I still dont know how to do that. POI's are a real pain to find too. So if you want a really sensitive GPS that functions for about what 100 bucks will get you this is the one. Higher than that I would not pay!

5 of 5 Great little GPS navigator Wednesday, March 19, 2008
Boys-like-toys from Indianapolis, IN
Seemed like a big bargain at $99.99 and has lived up to my hopes. Navigon was fast about furnishing items missing from the box. Amazing how accurate this device is. It has a strong preference for leading you to main thoroughfares, and sometimes takes a round-about route to do so. But it always gets you there. Can't wait to try it out on some unfamiliar destinations. Certainly increases my confidence that I won't get lost!

4 of 5 Great for the money Tuesday, March 18, 2008
John M from Copley, OH
I bought 2 - one for my wife and one for my daughter. Pros: - small size, good battery life, good set of maps already loaded, and other audio and video features. CONS - slow boot-up, very strange sequence of events to get to naviagation - which is what I bought it for, and menue system isn't real intuitive at first use. Scren size bnefit of being small and portable is also a con in that it may be hard to read. My view is based on my prior use of the Garmin IQ3600 which has been discontinued but still - for my use - is the best device out there.

5 of 5 Navigon L00XN100 Tuesday, March 18, 2008
A Customer from Vineland, NJ
I bought this unit because of it small size and portability. I'm very impressed with how easy it is to use. It didn't come with a manual but it's so easy to use a manual is not necessary. Once you have acquired enough satellites for navigation it will rapidly show your location. It acquires the satellites more rapidly if you turn on the unit in the same location last shown. I've used it for my wife's real estate to find properties. It's worked quite well. The mp3 player sounds good. I'm waiting for additional memory to add more music. The maps arn't the most recent but that is not a severe problem.

5 of 5 Fantastic GPS Tuesday, March 18, 2008
Adrian from Laurel, MD
I love this thing. It works as well, or maybe even better than my wife's over-priced Magellan. And this one will fit in my pocket for use on foot. If there's a down side, it would be the documentation. It's p!$$ poor. Fortunately, the interface is intuitive enough that I pretty much figured out what was going on in less than an hour of tinkering.

5 of 5 Fastest tracking, strongest receiver! Tuesday, March 18, 2008
Brian from Memphis TN
I am an avid user of GPS products in my business, this device is the 6th or 7th I have owned, one of three I currently have. The N100 pocket LOOX is the first navigation type device I have had, my business requirments being more basic needing numeric data. Of the several handhelds, and PC connected (USB or PCMCIA) GPS devices I have had, this one has the absolutle best receiver I have ever seen. On powering the device up out doors it syncs and is in tracking mode in under one minute every time. it also will sync and track almost anywhere inside my house. It also tracks in most of my parking garage at work, this concrete structure is on the North side of a large building. This performance of the RF features of the device are unexpectedly fantastic. The onscreen configuration of the device is very intuitive and easy to use. It occasionaly chooses a route that I don't consider optimal, but then why am I using a nav device? When missing a turn it is VERY fast on recalculating a new route. I would highly reccomend this device.

4 of 5 First gps Monday, March 17, 2008
A Customer from las vegas, nv
This product was adverstised for $99.00. I quickly jumped at purchasing it. Packaged arrived in less than a week, came with missing items (dvd and car charger)and gps unit has minute scratches which were not a big deal for me (item still looked somewhat new). Althought the package had missing items, it had everything needed for start up. Inputing address was quite difficult when using fingers, but it was very easy when using the slide pen found in unit. Start up of unit averages approximately 2 minutes. I would not recommend inputting new destination while driving - please pull over at a safe location then input new destination or poi. The unit is very portable and actually works well if have the patients. For $99.00 I actually love the product. Customer care was great at sending me missing parts. I just recieved them today and watch the DVD. I'm glad I didn't get a second unit for my parents. I would recommend this unit to people with average-technical abilities - for example, people that know how to program a vcr or tivo. But please as advised before do not input new address or new point of interest when driving, unless you have a passenger with average-technical abilities who is quick to understand the units odd inputs. The poi is a bit outdated, but it worked 95 percent of time - unit would show restaurants whiched closed down more than 3 years ago. At this moment, I'm finding ways to update the unit. Hopefully it will not be difficult to do so. I do not see any updates at navigon's website for the loox n100

4 of 5 Good enough Monday, March 17, 2008
A Customer from herndon, VA
For the price (99 $), i don't think you can find something better. A bit slow (though not as slow as some review claim), but works well. Very small, great to carry around. Good battery life. If you want something to take you from A to B, light and easy, and cheap, this is a good choice.

3 of 5 Not bad for the price Monday, March 17, 2008
A Customer from Germantown, Maryland
Pros: Small and portable. Inexpensive. Turn by turn voice navigation seems clear and accurate. Battery life is good so far. Driving too fast warning has been helpful. Cons: Outdated maps. I don't think there is any way to update them. POIs are either incorrect or outdated. I've seen mcdonalds icons listed on the device where there are really only houses. I wouldn't rely on the POIs unless it's just to see how far off the highway that mcdonalds really is. Address entry is so so. The screen is too small for quick enty and the interface isn't user friendly enough for a novice to just pick it up and run with it. Overall: It's better than nothing if you have some patience and can tolerate it's outdated maps. I doubt it would compare to a newer model that's several times it's price. But it'll hold me off until the prices come down some more or I get hooked and want one with more features.

5 of 5 absolutely great little GPS Sunday, March 16, 2008
A Customer from Sacramento, CA
the size is perfect...about the size of deck of cards. great build material and quality, feels solid - on par with iphones. This is much higher quality than those low cost plastic GPS. The performance is exactly expected of an unit equipped with SiRF III chip, very good acquiring the satellites when turned on, never once more than a minute and most of time, it's only 20-30 seconds. Easy user interface, took my wife all but 5 seconds to learn this unit. But it is also feature packed, with 2D/3D maps, a simulation mode, and day/night modes. Only item that I wish was better is indoor performance- I think the antennae maybe a little weak???? Not exactly sure... In summary, great unit, better than lower end Garmin, TomTom and all others. Excellent buy, highly recommended.

2 of 5 Buy.com and Navigon take me for a ride with their Thursday, March 13, 2008
A Customer from Warren, MI
Bought this as a companion for my Garmin Streetpilot c340, which I enjoy very much but is a bit bulky and does not work well inside buildings. I hoped that the SirfStar-III chipset of the Navigon would be better, and for the price and form factor I thought it would be a good addition. Menus are very clunky, as the unit has a split personality and tries to be so many different things, doing none of them well. Is it a GPS? Is it an MP3 player? From initial startup, after selecting navigation mode, it is almost a minute until the actual navigation function comes up. Then at least two more annoying button presses, asking which map to use (it ought to know or at least save this info), and the standard warning screen. Even then, I need a couple more button presses to actually show me where I am. I can accomplish the same thing in my Garmin with only two buttons after initial start. Battery does not hold charge even when left off. So you'd better check it before you go out with it. So much for being able to walk around with it. Does not have a good POI database. Could not find anything much more than McDonald's. They must be a corporate partner. Does not automatically set time. Navigon's website barely acknowledges that this product ever existed.

4 of 5 Really fits in your pocket! Wednesday, March 12, 2008
Michaelwmoser from Great Neck, NY
I have an older GPS which works well but is HUGE. This thing is the size of a cell phone and fits in your pocket. I have to say that the sattelite reception is a little slow and menus take a little getting used to -- this one you must read the instructions. If your road is not on the map (school or parking lot) the unit tends to try to put on on the closest road instead of keeping you in your actual position. Smaller fingers are a must... I haven't used the microphone yet but I put some songs on it and pictures... the sound is good but doesn't get really loud. also the headphones are nice but the cables are so short that you're supposed to wear it around your neck but it doesn't come with a neck strap so plan on using different headphones...

4 of 5 Better Than I Expected Wednesday, March 12, 2008
DuggleBogey from Nashville, TN
I read a lot of reviews about this GPS and I thought it was going to be very slow. I guess my expectations were very low because I thought it was plenty fast enough. I love the unit. It does exactly what I want and does it very well. The screen is small but I didn't want some big ugly thing in my small car, and I like that I can easily carry it around with me when I don't want to leave it in my car. It also does a pretty good job as a media player. I forgot my video player one day so I loaded a WMV file onto this and watched a movie on it. The attached speaker is very quiet and even the headphone volume is a bit low, but it worked as an emergency backup. The only problem I had was the refurb didn't include any manuals or software. I downloaded the manual from the company website but I still don't have the software. Fortunately Windows recognizes it and you probably only need the software for updates. I will get the software but they are making me jump through hoops like faxing in my proof of purchase. I'm a little disappointed by the level of service.

Pavan from Hackensack, NJ
Pros: small, good voice quality, easy to use.. as an mp3 or a video player *** Cons: Slow processor, outdated maps, poor reception *** I found it extremely slow in the beginning, however a hard-reset did the trick and it strated to act quickly.. I also tried to unlock the underlying OS.. no luck so far, could tweak its performance a bit though.. The maps and reception is upsetting and I wanted to check the return policy.. and I realize its not possible. So I shall try to update the maps and use it in Demo mode when there isn't any reception.

4 of 5 Pocket Loox Wednesday, March 12, 2008
A Customer from Pensacola, FL
Cool as sh*t. Haven't even scratched the surface of it's capabilities - music, pics, video. Didn't come with the software disk or Quick Start Guide though. Wasn't sure how to insert the map chip, but eventually figured it out. The GPS does get a bit confused sometimes. Doesn't recalculate alternate routes anywhere near as fast as the girlfriend's Garmin.

1 of 5 Useless Tuesday, March 11, 2008
A Customer from Tampa, FL
I bought this unit refurbished. It does not come with any paperwork, manuals, warranties, or the CD containing the maps which renders it totally useless. The company will not provide the missing items. They say to fax them your reciept, which I did, and they have done nothing, I have received nothing, and they have ignored my emails, and put me on terminal hold each time I have called to follow up. I am returning this item to Buy.com. DO NOT buy anything from Navigon!

5 of 5 Decent little GPS Monday, March 10, 2008
A Customer from Grovetown, GA
Pretty nice little unit. A bit small, but that makes it easy to carry around. Takes a while to pick up a signal, but reroutes nicely and is pretty quick, overall. Old maps (I've lived in my house since 12/05 and the development was here for over a year before that, and none of it is on the map) and limited POIs make it a bit disappointing in those regards. Also, the POI interface is a bit of a pain, but usable. Overall, it's a great GPS for the price. Like others, mine came in a crushed box with the items just thrown in it, missing all CDs and DVDs and no sign of a manual. Contacted Navigon and they are sending replacements. If they get more in, I will definitely pick some up for friends and family.

4 of 5 Bang for the buck Monday, March 10, 2008
A Customer from Washington, DC
I bought the unit as a gift for my sister and brother in law who just moved into a new neighborhood. I used it for a weekend beforehand. It worked right out of the box. For the money I was very satisfied. Never bothered to look at the manual. Found it to be very user friendly. Only complaints are (1) it takes awhile after turning the unit on to find a satellite signal; and (2) it is a little slow in recalculating a new route if you deviate from its chosen path. Otherwise, it is sleek, easy to use (especially after I noticed it had a wand after a day of use). Was also very impressed with the amount of detail and number of points of interest it had stored in its database.

5 of 5 Not bad, and then you can hack it Wednesday, March 05, 2008
Tom from Seattle, WA
I suggest hacking the unit - I didn't get a CD either; the package was listed as 'refurbished' and not 'manufacturer refurbished' which raised a red flag when I bought it. I'm glad I did. Google 'unlock loox n100' and you can see how you can get at the underlying OS and turn this into a backcountry navigation tool (plot your position on USGS maps), a datastream recorder for geotagging photos, upgrade the software to include text-to-speech, export your track to google earth, all sorts of cool things. All for $100. What a deal.

1 of 5 Impersonal Personal Service Wednesday, March 05, 2008
sriedel56 from Chelsea, MI
The Pocket LOOX is a great little GPS. When I received my Pocket LOOX the paperwork was missing from the box and it looked like a two year old packed it. I wrote to Customer Service saying that it wasn't that big a deal because I found the Manual online but I'd like the maps CD if possible. They sent me a form letter saying they couldn't authorize a return. I don't want a stinkin' return. JEEZ! Get with it Customer Service. Looks like I'll have to backup the SD card. You'd think with all the complaints, they'd get their act together and help.

1 of 5 Experience Update Wednesday, March 05, 2008
David from Orlando, FL
Same experience as everyone else here. Did discover that maps are preloaded on the SD card, so at least it is usable. Buy.com was not able to help except to tell me to call Navigon. They have been helpful enough, but they are requesting a copy of my receipt before they send the missing items.

3 of 5 Navigon Loox refurb Wednesday, March 05, 2008
Oquirrh_Shadows from Magna, UT
Same issues w/the refurb package as reported by others. Still charging the unit, however, I did notice the SD card came preloaded with map files for USA-Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands, all date stamped circa Dec 2006. I have already downloaded the Mobile Navigator User Manual from the Navigon site and recommend others planning to keep the unit do likewise. Will backup the SD card since there was no CD-ROM in the package.

3 of 5 Slow and Steady doesn't always win the race Wednesday, March 05, 2008
A Customer from Cuba, NM
The CPU is slow - probably the processor was downgraded to fit the small packaging. Takes a few minutes to turn on. Not obvious where the POIs are located. You'll only be able to use the touch screen when you are stopped. Don't try to change destinations on the fly, unless you think rear-ending a semi is a good idea. I almost always travel with a companion, so it works ok for me. She can type; I can drive. Otherwise, you'll need to have a good idea of where you're going before you get going. It's small, which is cool (I guess). Though the Nuvi 200 from Garmin is pretty small and works great. I had one for a year, before I stupidly brought it in my luggage without protecting it and broke the screen. I used to bring the Garmin with me on backpacking trips. So I went for the budget Loox refurbished and probably should've spent the extra 89 dollars to get the Nuvi 200 again from Amazon. Oh well. Oh, and if you're thinking of using it for an MP3 player, you'll have to purchase an additional mini card. There's only about 300 mb left on the disc after the maps are installed. So I'm going to Ecuador and bringing this with an additional mini-disc so I can have an MP3 player.

4 of 5 Getting help from buy.com/Navigon Wednesday, March 05, 2008
A Customer from Albany, NY
I emailed buy.com about missing parts/manuals/cds and they sent me contact info for Navigon: http://www.navigon.com/site/us/en/ 1-888-848-0701 I called, and after ignoring a bunch of prompts that don't relate to the L00X N100 (there never were any N100 selections) I got Alex on the phone. Alex had a very "can do" attitude and shared with me that they are getting quite a few calls for this product missing the CD and DVD (yup, I guess there is a DVD missing too). He entered my order for the CD, DVD, and a stylus and said once the order is processed the missing parts will be shipped UPS Ground. Thanks buy.com for getting back to me so quickly and connecting me with the right people to get this addressed. This does not absolve anyone from the lousy quality of this recertified unit, but it does at least lend some help.

3 of 5 No Software Disk Wednesday, March 05, 2008
A Customer from new hyde park NY
The product Discription Lists Software CD, Warranty, and Manuals are "inclided in the box". These items were not included in the box I received. The number of complaints I've read indicate that we are dealing with false advertising by the manufacturer rather than a simple oversight. I've emailed buy.com for help but no reply has been forthcoming.

1 of 5 Recertified unit arrives without all the parts/man Wednesday, March 05, 2008
A Customer from ALBANY, NY
So far, the unit looks and runs well, I have only tested briefly. There was no manual. I downloaded one. It mentions a CD with the GPS software, Windows CE O/S, etc. There was no CD in the package. There is supposed to be a telescoping stylus. None in the package. I can't return this to Buy.com cause it's "special". Trying to find a way to contact Fujitsu/Siemens/Navigon. Come on buy.com, you can do better! I have always been very pleased with my business with you, but this is crappy. Were there untrained monkeys doing the recertification?!!!!
