    5 of 5 great gps Tuesday, February 03, 2009
    Joe from Falls Church, VA

This is a great GPS. I bought 2, one for my sister and one for my girlfriends brother. I am not sure about the brother (away at school) but my sister loves hers. I am thinking about buying myself one to replace my gps. It starts up quick, has more points of interest than mine, and I love that it says the speed limit for highways.

    5 of 5 Best GPS I Have Owned. Friday, December 05, 2008
    Mike from Rockford.Illinois
I give this unit a 5 out of 5 rating. Had a question and customer service was more than helpful. Easy to use. Never have to worry about getting lost. If you miss your turn it reroutes your destination.

5 of 5 very good GPS for the money Wednesday, November 26, 2008
    Stu from Lyles, Tn.
I was looking for a good GPS system for my travels. I bought this one after researching several models that were in my price range. Most were close in features and what set this one apart was the free lifetime real time traffic alerts. A couple of people indicated that the sat pickup was slow, but I have found the Sat. pickup to be good. May be not instant but very quick. I wish it had blue-tooth voice activation to change the POI without stopping. The other thing is, I wish it had free upgrades for new maps and POI's. Other than those two things,I am completely satisfied with my system.

    5 of 5 Very Nice Display/Graphics Tuesday, August 05, 2008
    Kathleen from Lawrenceville, GA
The display is very impressive with all of the points of interests. I live in Atlanta and it does not have the "Reality View" feature that I was looking for. Traffic updates must be read by pressing the icon as opposed to being announced such as on the Garmin Street Pilot. Overall, this is a very nice GPS system.

    4 of 5 Navigon 5100 - Great GPS Monday, June 30, 2008
    Kenya from Cleveland, OH
Remarkable item! I go no where without it. Features are wonderful, text to speech makes it easier to focus on driving. Lifetime traffic feature is wonderful to avoid messy freeways, many points of interest and easy stand by features so there is not a long start up time.

    5 of 5 Very Pleased Saturday, June 14, 2008
    Bob from N Canton, Oh
I have worked with multiple GPS units and this is the simplest of the ones I have used. Love the NO CHARGE live traffic updates and the overall sleek styling. If I have not played with it enough to see - I would like it to transmit through the radio.

3 of 5 So-so. There are probably better ones... Friday, April 04, 2008
A Customer from New York, NY
On the plus side it's slim, attractive and loaded with features. On the negative side, it's a bit slow to "find" you, and I found the interface awkward. I had high hopes, but I think a Magellan or Nuvi is probably a better bet.

    4 of 5 Overall a good product Saturday, March 15, 2008
    lamruge from Florida
Really like the enhanced graphics at busy intersections, and the traffic re-route feature. Found it difficult to search for specific destinations by name (POI lacks shopping malls), it works better if you know the street addresses.

4 of 5 Navigon vs. VZ Navigator Tuesday, January 01, 2008
    Frazier from Birmingham, AL
I had been a VZ Navigator user for about 2 years. I loved the service, but hated the monthly payment. I choose the Navigon because it had FREE traffic and a Detour function. Also, the VZ Navigator doesn't work in rural areas once if you veer off course after leaving your service area because it cannot connect back to the data service. Overall, I like the device. However, there are a few things I do not like. First, I noticed that if you are suppose to turn left on a road and you take a right turn, the unit actually makes it look like you are turning left until it figures out you aren't actually going in the right direction. Also, the unit ALWAYS tries to place you on a road instead of actually putting you where you are. This causes a lot of problems in parking lots and service roads (that aren't shown on the map). If you are traveling on a service road, many times it'll show you on the main road. For example, I had an instruction to turn to get on the interstate. I turned right before the interstate entrance into a gas station. It thought that I was on the interstate entrance ramp. Of course, when I turn around to pull back out to the road that leads to the ramp, it thinks I'm on the service road that runs under the ramp (I'm still in the gas station service area at the time). The other thing that I've noticed that if you save your position, it doesn't really save your EXACT position. It gets you back to the general area. For example, I put into my GPS to save my current position while I was in my driveway. When I went around the block in the car and selected my home to navigate to, it directed me the cul-de-sac behind my house. So, I went out to my mailbox and did the same thing. When I went around the block again and selected my home to navigate to, it directed my to the intersection of the cross road to my street which is about 10 houses down from my house. The nice thing about the VZ Navigator is when you select "Where am I?", it gives you a physical address. The Navigon just says, the street name and city. I already knew the VZ Navigator had 14.1 million POI vs 6 million POI for Navigon so there is no complaint there. Also, the speaker needs to be louder. Other than those things, I'm pretty happy with the device, but there is room for improvements. I guess the least annoying thing about the Navigon vs VZ Navigator is that when you miss a turn you don't hear "Recalculating route".

4 of 5 Good LITTLE Unit Monday, December 31, 2007
A Customer from League City, TX
The Navigon 5100 is a very small, but powerful GPS unit. The road hazard feature is very nice. It provides other useful features such as speed limit warnings and upcoming traffic speed indications. It occasionally takes a minute or two to catch the satellite signal, but does a good job of navigating and re-routing. The battery life is pretty short, so the charger is essential for me. The mount works well, although the unit can shift positions slightly if you hit a big bump. If I had to do it again I would go for the next model up, which has a larger screen, but am otherwise thrilled with the unit.

    1 of 5 Worst GPS I have owned... Saturday, December 29, 2007
A Customer from King of Prussia, PA
The system takes about five minutes to find it's bearings every time you turn it on. If the road you are on has a jug handle for turns, watch out. This GPS will make you take the jug handle and back on the road instead of going straight through. There is a bug in the logic of the GPS. To add to my misery, Buy.com will not take this junk back.

    5 of 5 Very satisfied! Wednesday, December 12, 2007
    AJ from Atlanta, GA
I did a lot of research for GPS and my main requirement was Text-to-Speech and slim, compact design. I settled on Navigon 5100 and have been very satisfied in the last 2 weeks that I have used this (extensively). Contrary to some of the reviews that said it took them 10 minutes to connect to the satellite, my unit never took more than 1 minute even with full start. Note that you can keep the unit in standby mode and it uses very little battery even overnight and connects faster that way. The best feature is lifetime free traffic info and that's a neat feature to have, although I didn't use it to re-route me anytime. The reality view is really nice and it shows the road signs very accurately. The unit is very attractive, compact and light. I am yet to see the battery last more than 2 hours, although the published time is 4 hours. Overall, nothing major to complain about this unit.

5 of 5 Love this Navigon Tuesday, December 11, 2007
    A Customer from Boise Idaho
I wasn't sure how this would work when I first bought it. It was easy to use and I like the way you can mount it to the front window of the car. It talks to you when you need to change a direction. Even if you miss your direction it re-calculates for you and gives you new direction. I first used this product in Portland Oregon and I would have never got around if not for the Navigon.

    A Customer from Berlin, Md
The GPS system was a Christmas gift, or it was supposed to be. I could not wait til the 25th to try it out. I was amazed how accurate this system is. It makes driving more enjoyable now that I know that I am not going to get lost. I would recommend the system to anyone. Personally, I think I got a great deal! By the way, I liked the system so much I purchased a second one to give as a Christmas gift.

    4 of 5 GPS for Dummies - but that's a good thing Saturday, December 08, 2007
    mikejbrown from Hazel Park, MI
I have several gps devices, and they all have features I like and dislike about them, if one of these manufactures really want to make a bundle, they would do a survey of gps owners, and get information on all the favourite features, and bundle them all into one unit! OK, let me start with the con - screen size, smaller then most, takes getting used to, but no big deal. Those depending on a cell phone gps have a smaller screen to deal with anyway. Little slow on the recalculating of routes, I think it takes a long time for it to realize you have deviated from the route it has told you to take. FYI - "a long time" in gps lingo is about 3-5 seconds. I have heard that this unit is slow to lock in a signal, not true as far as I am concerned, I turn it on when I get in my car, put my destination in, and by the time I pull off and start on my way, it has a signal, so no problem there. BEST FEATURE : The lifelong subscription to free traffic reports, any other gps device, you have to subscribe to this and pay every month. This feature gives me a reason to use my gps EVERYTIME I DRIVE ANYWHERE. Although I may know where I am going (sometimes), actually putting in my destination in the device allows me to be alerted whenever there are road conditions ahead that will cause a delay; one button touch tells the unit to guide me around the obstruction.

    1 of 5 Navigon 5100 Friday, December 07, 2007
    A Customer from NY
Navigon 5100 - Portable GPS System with Reality View - Built in US Maps - 10000130 1. It never found a satallite even outdoors. 2. After a few days the button to turn on the device stopped working, so I could never turn on the fully charged unit, even though the charge light was green on the bottom of the unit. I am very disappointed and am returning the unit.

    5 of 5 Great GPS Friday, December 07, 2007
    Art from Denver, CO
I almost went another way because of some of the negative reviews on this model. I am glad I wasn't swayed as this is a great GPS. I've tested it now for a couple of weeks and couldn't live without it. I've created routes (e.g. 15 stops in one day) and it worked perfectly to get me to every stop. The traffic alert feature is great also, and I've used that to steer clear of congested areas. What I like best is being able to sit in a nice chair at home and plot out my routes. The next morning I press Start Navigation for the route, and the stress of the day is reduced dramatically.

3 of 5 Map Data Needs Update Tuesday, December 04, 2007
    A Customer from Glen Allen
Overall it is a good GPS system but has very old map data. I am living on Olde Covington Way, Glen Allen, VA 23059 for the last two years. But this GPS does not have that address. Further, the GPS shows Springfield Road (Rt. 157), Glen Allen, Virginia as a Single lane road, while this road was changed to doule lane divided highway in the year 2000. I called the customer service for the latest Map Data. But did not get satisfactory answer.

    1 of 5 Very buggy :-( Wait till Spring 08!!! Monday, December 03, 2007
    Nurudin Javeri from Dallas, TX
I got this unit in Dec 07, seems to be real easy to use at first. Took it for a 2 hr test drive, battery died in 90 mins. The maps are 80% accurate SO BE WARE! 1 in 5 stores and restaurants are between 300 - 500 feet away from where it says it is :-( Also the FREE TRAFFIC does NOT WORK IN DALLAS!!! Called Navigon and they confirmed everything I said and they said there is a bug in the free traffic software and the maps are also buggy. In Jan - March of 08 they are going to release a software update. I had to send it back to buy.com as it is TOTALLY USELESS!!!

    5 of 5 A good upgrade Saturday, December 01, 2007
    uscharlph from Long Beach, CA
This Navigon 5100 is my 2nd GPS. My 1st was a Pioneer AVIC-S1, which I was very happy with. The 2 things that really intrigued me about the Navigon were the "Lifetime" traffic information and the reality view. I am very happy with this unit, but I have'nt tried most other GPS devices.

5 of 5 The best GPS on the market! Wednesday, November 28, 2007
    A Customer from Richmond, VA
I have read some negative feedback on the Navigon 5100 and decided to purchase it anyway, I am so glad I did! I travel in Richmond, VA and the DC area and it has not failed me yet. It takes only a few seconds to locate the satelite and the arm suction is great. It pivots so you can turn the Navigon at any angle that suits you best. It is very simple to use! My sister bought the Garmin and returned it because the directions were so off. She got the Navigon and has been very happy with it like myself. If you have not decided on a GPS try the Navigon you will not be disappointed!! Ignore the negative reviews......they are not accurate!!

    5 of 5 Cool GPS Thursday, November 15, 2007
Sanjay K. Sahasrabudhe from Boston, MA
While I was doing my research on GPS, I started with VZNavigator service provided by Verizon on my cell. But then I was looking out for some unique features and Navigon 5100 had them all. Pros: The traffic updates for life, Lane assistance, 3D view, Speed warning and the price. It is very accurate while guiding for turns. Cons: Some times it takes time to get the satellite signal. While approaching the Interstate Highways it says the Town Name e.g. "Take the highway on the right for Burlington" which is I95 North. Along with the town name, it should also specify North, South, East or West. While exiting from highways it say the exit numbers though. I recommend 5100 if you are keen on traffic updates, lane assistance else go for 2100. For bigger screen size go for 7100 (has some more features as well)

5 of 5 The Best GPS for the price Tuesday, September 18, 2007
    Mahesh from Atlanta, GA
The wait for the last couple of months was worth it. This unit is amazing, when you open the box the first thing that attracts you is the stylish design, the chrome finish of the unit. It caught the satellite signal within 20 seconds of turning it on inside the house. Connected the TMC wire provided and within 30 sec had the latest traffic in Atlanta,GA. The 3D reality view on the interstate is awesome. I had zeroed on the Garmin Nuvi 350 and the Navigon 5100. It blows the Garmin Nuvi 350 away with features like Free Traffic for life, Zagat ratings, 3D reality view considering the price difference between the two. The only thing that is not delivered is a wall charger, however if you have an USB charger you are good(I used the charger of my Motorala RAZR phone).
