1 of 5 I wish I could return it - that bad Thursday, September 18, 2008 I like Buy.com from Chicago, IL
I bought my Navigon 2100 and played around with it in the car at home, its seemed okay once I figured everything out. However I don't drive much and I really bought this for long trips or when I fly and rent a car. I finally got a chance to use it in the Phoenix area. First off - and I planned for this - but getting the satellite link takes forever (10+ minutes) so I would turn it on in my hotel room way before I went to my car. This is very aggravating that this is so slow especially if you lose the connection. The second and most troubling is the directions, for example, leaving the airport to get to the highway in Phoenix it basically made me go around the block for no reason. My wife had the rental car map and she told me to just go straight which should have been obvious but I just listened to the GPS voice. It also doesnt always recognize the street you are on. I am on Scottsdale Rd. after a bit of time it would tell me to turn onto the same road - WHAT? My other favorite was if I had to go from point A to point B it would always suggest going out of the way to take the highway. The POI is garbage it only has a fraction of stores etc on it. Really I was looking for a drugstore and I traveled 3 miles to get to one using it and I later find out there was one 2 blocks away from my hotel - the same franchise. On a sunny day the screen is not very easy to read and finally its not that simple to operate. The only nice thing I have to say is that its compact and the reality View is way cool. Other than that its garbage - don't waste your money buy another brand. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 traffic updates are not all they are cracked up to Monday, September 08, 2008 jimkannoox from Chicago, IL
I have google navigation on my blackberry, tomtom navigation on my HP travel companion and now the navigon 2100 with traffic. I only got this for the traffic updates and the great price (144 plus shipping)
Some things it does better than the others, the predictive street names and city names are done by location. ie... instead of scrolling through every springfield in the US... I would be taken to the closest (and most likely) choice first. I thought that I would be able to reroute to a faster drive with traffic updates but it just tells you where traffic is at on your route via an alert on the screen indicating yellow for slow, red for stop and go, and a little constuction dude icon for road work. live traffic reroutes for the fastest route would be a better feature. Text to speech and lane assist are also nice in this price range. and yes, it does make a difference. especially in congested and confusing urban areas. (email me if you know how to get rerouted around traffic jams, I cant seem to do it) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Navigon 2100 Saturday, September 06, 2008 A Customer from Felton, PA
Received GPS in timely manner, was disappointed that no instructions were included with unit. After going to Navigon website I eventually found the manual and printed parts I wanted. The GPS has good features and is not hard to use, just not as intuitive as my previous Garmin C330, but it does have more features.
So far it has performed well. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Slow but at this price you cant complain Tuesday, September 02, 2008 A Customer from Lubbock, Tx
The unit is a little slow going from screen to screen but everything else is great. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Slow and aggravating Monday, August 18, 2008 Matsumi from Garden Grove, CA
The screen and graphics on this unit was really something you would expect from a video game console. No jagged lines anywhere to be seen. But unfortunately, the praise ends there as the use of this product was hardly acceptable by any standard.

After receiving the unit, I gave the batteries a good charge and took it out for a road test to see how the unit performs. From the start, I found this unit difficult to use in a car with the small on-screen buttons leading to aggravation by accidentally hitting the wrong button for both my daughter and I. As we attempted to find Whole Foods Market in the next city over, I was dismayed that the store wasn't available in the POI database (Just about every other grocery store was). Thinking that it is a specialty market, I gave it another try with a well know store chain called Target. Once again which led to disappointment. My daughter kept playing with it from the passenger seat trying to find anything useful from the GPS just to give up because of how unresponsive the unit is.

The Unit seems to work like a charm if you already know the address of your destination. Looking up destinations in the POI database is a nightmare. I'm going to return this unit and probably just buy another TomTom. Was this review helpful?

Navigon makes a GREAT product. You can't go wrong with this GPS for the price. I've owned this unit since black Friday last year plus free lifetime traffic (note: you have to have this service in your area to take advantage of traffic updates). The CPU is a little slow for the software that runs on this device. This causes a somewhat annoying delay when you press an option on the screen while you have to wait for up to one or two seconds for the device to respond to you touch. I work in IT and usually "demand" high performance from PC devices, so I'm a little less patient than the average user. Other than that, this device is NOT as user friendly as other devices (like a Tom Tom), however, it makes up for this in HIGH TECH GADGETRY. Lane Assist is a totally COOL feature unique (at least for the moment) to Navigon GPS units. Realtime Traffic is WAY cool, but can only be used in the cities that broadcast this data on the FM frequency that it requires. A lot of cities do, but some don't. Still a nice feature, even if you can't use it 'most' of the time. Gives you the option to have the GPS route you AROUND traffic jams, construction, etc. Another feature normally found only on $400 or $500 units is street name dictation. I have to laugh sometimes at the pronounciation, but the feature is nice to have. I highly recommend this unit for the price and have been extremely happy with mine. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 An impressive piece of equipment Monday, August 11, 2008 Henry from Monroe, Wa
I am very impressed with this GPS especially for the lifetime traffic informations feature which I use each time before I set out. The delivery from Buy.com was brisk. Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Really good navigation system Monday, August 11, 2008 A Customer from Binghamton NY
I really loved this GPS... the reality view helps a lot with the traffic updates its even better.... warns if you cross the speed limit for safety.... really awesome features... great price !!!!
charges through usb so dont really need that car charger !!!
only thing that I did not like about this device it the mounting attchment... it dose not sick anywhere and the mechanism to mount and dismount the gps makes you feel that it will break.... and the interface is confusing to use at times... no real way to cancel your destination without resarting the device that takes loong time to start.... and it takes some more time to connect to the satellite... but thats bout all the bad things I can find....
