Digital Entertainment News 8 of 10 [Creature] One doesn't have to be a young woman to appreciate Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave. Adventure game junkies will enjoy the title as it gives a good dose of what is missing from many titles in the genre today -- story, pacing, and non-repetitive puzzles. While plenty of adventure games today have a good story to tell, it takes forever for something to happen and a ridiculous series of long drawn out events have to take place. Not so here -- with Nancy Drew's latest the player isn't given a whole lot of time to just click around and do nothing waiting for events to unfold...Graphically the game is quite lush and well detailed. Much of this has to do with the fact that the adventure takes place on a tropical island. The vegetation is deep and well displayed, but everything the player needs to interact with is still clearly visible. On the auditory side the game really stands out. The voice acing is very well done -- some of the best in the genre...There are two levels of difficulty provided in the game. One plays out much like most games in the genre, while the other keeps track of what players need to do next as well as provide hints...As it stands, Nancy Drew: The Creature of the Kapu Cave is a good game that honors the tradition of the titular hero. A "girl game" that is light years ahead of what the current crop of "girl games" have to offer. - Daniel Pelfrey Game Chronicles 8 of 10 [Danger] Generally, Danger by Design plays like an old school, linear adventure game and seems to be designed with younger and more casual gamers in mind. The game starts with a brief and clear tutorial explaining the game controls for new players, though you may choose to skip the tutorial and jump straight into the game. The controls are simple and easy to learn, so non-gamers and children should be able to pick them up very quickly...True to its adventure game genre, most of the game consists of guiding Nancy in a first person view through various interactive locales while picking up clues or usable items and playing assorted mini-games--ranging from solving logic puzzles to preparing tasty-looking parfaits...Also, without spoiling the ending for anyone, it's probably worthwhile to note that Danger by Design is not the kind of mystery in which players can actually put together the clues gathered and figure out what is going on by themselves. Instead, in the style of Sherlock Holmes, most of the actual plot is revealed at the very end of the game...Even with its limitations, Nancy Drew: Danger by Design is a decently entertaining, albeit short, mystery adventure game with a diverse assortment of easy to moderately challenging puzzles. Family-friendly and easy to play, it may be a worthwhile and educational diversion for younger gamers. - Mahamari Tsukitaka
