| Considering the groundbreaking nature of Julio Iglesias' career, "My Life: The Greatest Hits is more than simply a great collection of songs -- it is a vital, living piece of international musical history. The single most popular Latin recording artist ever -- and one of the most successful recording artists in the world period -- Iglesias has never before seen fit to document his entire remarkable body of work in a single place. In finally agreeing to do so on this new hit-packed double-CD collection, Iglesias looks back less with a sense of personal pride than with a sense of deep appreciation for all the millions of the people all over the world who have made all things possible for him since the very beginning. A fitting celebration of a groundbreaking career in music, "My Life: The Greatest Hits is being released in a manner that is in many ways the ultimate culmination of Iglesias' international success. This collection really is for all those fans who have made the whole story come true for me," says Iglesias. "They are the ones who made these songs the greatest hits. Without their support, there are no hits, no concerts, no career, just a skinny guy with a little voice. All the awards and acclaim are very nice, but the ultimate award for me is to have the sort of fans who stay with you and your music year after year and allow you to keep growing as an artist and performer. Without those fans, there is nothing for me." With his dedicated fans, of course, Iglesias has become a one man worldwide musical phenomenon -- a multinational force having earned more than 1,500 gold and platinum awards and selling well over 220 million albums in numerous languages to music lovers on every continent on earth. More than any other contemporary musical figure, the tirelessly touring Julio Iglesias has established himself as a true citizen of the world, and as this collection proves once again, a most highly-treasured one.

Featuring no less than 37 songs over the course of two CDs, My Life has all of his biggest hits, most popular duets, and fan favorites, including "To All the Girls I've Loved Before," "All of You," "My Love," and "Summer Wind," a duet with Frank Sinatra. With only a couple of exceptions, the first disc is devoted to English-language hits, the second entirely to Latin hits. For some listeners, it may be too much material to digest, especially in one sitting, but there's little question that this is the definitive Julio Iglesias compilation. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine | | For those with a yearning to know Julio Iglesias beyond the U.S. celebrity duet hits with Willie, Diana, Dolly, Stevie et al., this two-CD retrospective makes for an excellent introduction. Throughout his career Iglesias has employed the same producer and engineer--Ramon Acusa and Carlos Alvarez respectively. For nearly two decades this team has perfected an ultra-sleek yet restrained Europop that travels extremely well. As might be expected it is the original Spanish language tracks comprising most of disc two on which Iglesias can unwind and really strut his stuff. Unlike most international singers, say Cesoria Evoria or even The Gipsy Kings, Julio is not a niche artist. And because he is a real popular singer, he can communicate genuine romanticism in a song, whether Spanish or English, that Placido Domingo, never mind the Three Tenors, can only dream of. | Engineer: Carlos Alvarez | Musical Guests | | Stevie Wonder | | Dolly Parton | | Willie Nelson | | All 4 One | | Diana Ross | | Frank Sinatra | | Sting | | Paul Anka |
| | Artist Overview | | Julio Iglesias was not only the most popular Spanish singing star of the '70s and '80s, but an international sensation as well. Though casual fans may know him best for his smash duet with Willie Nelson, "To All The Girls I've Loved Before," he's had a long and varied career. Besides the romantic pop crooning for which he's most famous, Iglesias has also recorded albums of Brazilian music and tango. In addition to his work with Nelson, Iglesias has collaborated with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Stevie Wonder. Continuing the legacy, his sons Enrique and Julio, Jr. both became Latin pop stars in their own right, making women swoon just the way their father always did. |
