When both MTV and Madonna entered the cultural world in the early 1980's, critics easily dismissed them as passing fads. Now roughly 20 years later, both are flourishing, having completely altered the shape of pop music. It is impossible to imagine the landscape of pop music without the ubiquitous influence of the music cable channel, which is broadcast all over the world.
