5 of 5 Great hard drive case Tuesday, November 27, 2007 ewharper from Lakeland, FL
I had a 40GB hard drive lying around, so I decided to make a USB mini-drive out of it. I shopped around, and determined this to be best for me. I like the self-powered USB, so I didn't need an external power source to lug around.
Installation was a breeze, they even included a small screwdriver for the installation!!
The silver case looks good, and the hard drive performs as expected. I recommend this to anyone wanting a notebook sized hard drive enclosure. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Be careful, works at USB 1.1 speeds! Friday, November 02, 2007 A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
I used a hard drive that came out of an IBM laptop to make an external drive out of this enclosure. However, it only operates at USB 1.1 speeds for me. Oh, well, what can I expect for the money I am paying for this... Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Compact USB 2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure Wednesday, August 15, 2007 RD Miller from St. Louis, MO
This is a nice hard drive enclosure compatible with USB2.0. It is very compact making storage in a briefcase or book bag a breeze. Included is a vinyl cover, USB cable and one touch back-up program for keeping your back-ups current. A great buy with a rebate! Was this review helpful?

1 of 5 if your reading this, you've fallen for it Monday, August 13, 2007 Nathan from Warren, OH
This has to be the worst product i've ever purchased. It feels so cheap, except for the aluminum, maybe you can resell that part if you've already purchased this. Why would I buy an enclosure to make a permanent external hdd out of my laptop harddrive. By the time I screw this product together with the $0.001 included screwdriver, my hdd will crash from jamming all these pieces together. No ventilation fits perfectly with the aluminum casing that will definately store all the heat. Rename your company from "Moving Star" to "Black Dwarf", the name of a small dead star. I had an old toshiba drive from a laptop and installed in the enclosure and working in 10 minutes the extra usb outlet for laptops requiring additional power to drive the drive is an excellent option and comes with case nice touch and good product for back up drive. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good quality USB box Monday, August 13, 2007 A Customer from Huntersville, NC
Better built than most - very sturdy - with long set screws holding together. Works with any HD I install and so far have not needed the second USB plug for power.
Good unit for the money. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 NOT A $30 PIECE OF HARDWARE Monday, August 13, 2007 Salmon from Oregon
Very flimsy quality. USB technology is common, if the manufacturing were done in the US and it were solid it would be worth $30. This should probably sell for closer to $10. If you can get it free with a re-bate, go for it. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Not a bad enclosure Monday, August 13, 2007 Dejan Jancevski from Livonia, Michigan
Well, it's actually a pretty competent enclosure. You get a 2.5" hard drive enclosure with all of the necessary screws, Philips mini-screwdriver, USB cable, mini-CD, and a carrying case. Not bad at all.

Performance isn't necessarily top shelf, but that also depends on the speed of the hard drive you're putting into this thing. Considering how limited most 2.5" drives are, I'd say don't assume that this enclosure will be your major storage drive. Simply a backup drive for really important info, and it will do that very well.

Personally, I didn't need to install any software that came on the mini-CD, but your experience may be different.

The overall product performs admirably well. The case housing is very sturdy, though some of the screws were somewhat difficult to install properly (the case holes are somewhat difficult to line up perfectly). Otherwise, simply plug in your drive, screw closed the thing, plug in the USB cable to both the drive and your computer, and you're good to go. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Works great; Buttons are cheap. Wednesday, February 14, 2007 A Triathlete from Poway, California
I have several different external cases and this one is pretty good. It's a bit beefier than the cheap $10 ones I bought elsewhere, but not as nice as my best one. The buttons and switches on it are a bit cheap and with lots of use I'd be a bit worried about them failing at some point. I haven't tried the software for one-touch backup since I don't really like to have extra programs running and looking for that signal. Overall installation was easy and clean with no problems even for the biggest moron..I mean really...what could you possibly screw up? All you do is plug in it and screw in the ends. A great deal for $9.99 assuming I actually get the rebate back. Was this review helpful?

The case I got is somewhat different than the picture. Small unit and best of all, does not require a power source; it gets its power from the USB port.
The directions are printed so small it is difficult to read, even with a magnifier. I am having trouble finding out whar type hard drive it will accept. When I get it set up I will enjoy it.
Great price after rebate, free shipping too. Was this review helpful?

This product is a great way to recycle surplus harddrives from laptops. Installing the drive in the enclosure couldn't be easier. Just plug it in and close the box with the screws supplied. Plug the drive into a USB2 port and it's recognized immediately if you're using Windows XP.
I've been using it for a few weeks now without a hitch. Can't beat the cost - $10 after rebate.

Package comes with drive enclosure and USB cable that has 2 plugs at one end. One of those can be used if the drive doesn't get enough power on the first connection (as could be the case with some laptops) - in that case just plug in the 2 USB connectors into 2 ports on your PC.
Installation was a breeze - open the enclosure, slide out the card, place harddrive on the card and slide it into the connector on the card, secure drive on the card with 4 screws, slide card into enclosure, attach end plate with 2 small screws and you're done!
Drive enclosure has an on-off switch which is very handy.
No drivers needed for XP, W2K, Vista (tried all of those).
Speed seems very good (I'm using a 100Gb 5400rpm Fujitsu drive).
There's also a button to use in conjunction with included backup software, but I haven't installed or tried that.
The aluminum enclosure dissipates the drive heat very well, so no need for a fan.
BTW - product image (the one that shows the USB 2.0 symbol on the enclosure) does not match product. Actual product does not have the rounded corners like the image shows. But this does of course not have any effect on how the product works... Was this review helpful?
