Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable Modem

I bought this to replace my ISP supplied modem which was poorly made (cheap), slow and often lost connectivity. The Motorola SB5101 made my webpages load at lightening speed and I have not dropped a connection yet. This is by far better than anything the ISP has provided and will save me $3 per month on modem rental fees to boot! Highly recommended.

I used this modem to replace an older Motorola modem. Easy to install but I did have to call my ISP to reset. That was a pain, but everything works well now.

I've had this modem for about a week now and I'm very pleased with it. I switched from AT&T (formerly Bellsouth) to Comcast and my connection is much faster. I'm getting close to 6Mb/s download speed and 1.2 Mb/s upload speed.

I just bought this modem because it was on the approved list for Comcast. It works flawlessly. The technician came in , connected the modem and it has been working perfectly ever since. I am not certain about longevity - but it is certainly better than leasing (renting) a modem from Comcast.

I change from SB5100 to SB5101 and the speed doubled for download and upload. I could not believed that it would make that much different. I have Comcast as my internet provider and I had to call them to setup the SB5101. It took about 1 hour, but most of that time was waiting. I very happy with this product

Between rental fees from the cable company and my wife's complaints about losing the Internet connection, I decided to replace the piece of junk the cable company provided with the Surfboard. Installation was easy - once I figured out that I had to turn off my wireless router first. Have never lost the connection since setting it up (about 2 weeks), and the speed is far better than the old modem. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I had to replace my previous modem due to a bad ethernet port. So I came right to Buy.com. Of the recommended modems, the Motorola had a reduced price, while the other had a mail-in rebate. I HATE mail-in rebates, so the decision was easier. Love the upright design, and it is very stable, even with the ethernet cable snaking over to the router. I've had it for two weeks now, with no problems.

Great performance booster, cable modem at home was 6 years old. Did some research with ISP this was one of the cable modems on the compatible list, easy to setup and connect, just a easy phone call to ISP to register MAC address, performance is better than ever great product at a great price!

I bought one of these modems over 3 years ago on the advise from a broadband tech that when he does service calls, the modem is never the problem when it is a Motorola modem. It still does an excellent job. The modems I bought previously from the cable company went bad after 2 years. Why rent the modem from your cable company when you can buy one and it will pay for itself in 1.5 years?

The item was as described and arrived promptly. Of question is that according to Motorola, the Surfboard 5101 is new than the Surfboard 5120 yet the 5101 is $3 less expensive that the 5120 on the Buy.Com site. Explain?

I know this is the correct one the cable system uses, this is the main reason I ordered this one. Cheaper than renting or buying from cable system.

#1 Great Modem at an excellent price and also free shipping! Researched this modem prior to purchase and it is everything it states it is! Ease of installation and excellent connectivity! Thank you to Buy.com for their terrific prices and great selections. Anyone who does not shop here is simply wasting their money!!!!!!! I am now going to purchase speaker wire that would cost twice as much in any retail store and I still get the great quality I require.

Excellent product. Used with Comcast Cable High Speed Internet. You have to call tech support to provide the MAC address, then they can reach the modem and copy the configuration file into it. Spend about 10 minutes with the technician. Don't pay the lease, get one yourself and Buy.com has the best price on the Internet.

This modem is extremely easy to use, and since it is vertical it has the small footprint I was looking for. My one complaint is that it is so lightweight that it tips over easily. Any stray cable dragging across the desktop will tip it over. So far, this hasn't resulted in accidentally pushing the "Standby" button, which is located on the top, but sooner or later I'm sure it will happen.

I have rented a cable modem for too long. The modem was set up and registered in less than 5 minutes. It appears just a good as the one it replaced and I have had no issues with it.

I bought this cable modem to replace my aging one. I thought the price was reasonable, and you can't beat the free shipping. Installing this product was a breeze, much easier than to get the cable company to register it on their network. GOOD DEAL, GOOD PRODUCT.

I bought this modem so I could switch from DSL to Cable internet, and found that buy.com had the best pricing. After ordering, I received the shipment very quickly, and everything worked right out of the box without any hassles! I am not sure how this modem stacks up against other cable modems, but I have been very happy so far (we have been using it for about 1 month now).

Not sure if my download speeds have increased but I know that they haven't decreased. I especially like the fact that I don't have to send an additional $5 to Comcast for renting a modem. I figure I'll break even after a year.

I have been using this modem for a month. It has been working very well. I recommended buying this product 'Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable Modem'. I got the best price from Buy.com. I only encountered a minor installation problem. By the time when I was trying to switch my USB cable to use the Ethernet cable. I must remove USB driver first, otherwise it won't allow me to see the modem.

I am a computer teacher at a high school technical academy and have told many of the teachers and administrative people that if they want to purchase electronics or computer related items to definitely go to buy.com and check out the prices. I have used Cox Cable Broadband since it was available and purchased their cable modem. It had worked fine until recently when Cox upped their speed. After upgrading to Vista Home Premium, I started to get dropped internet connections where I received message I had to reconnect. This bacame frustrating and I contacted Cox who advised that my early cable modem was too old. I purchased the above modem from Buy.com and it corrected all my dropped connections, but more then that, it stopped all previous frozen screens and slow window changes. Terrific, and it was just a matter of reconnecting the new cable box and away we go. Oruce is great! But more important, I ordered the item on 6-20-07 at 6:28 PM and received it on 6-21-07 early afternoon. I was amazed. OK, so it was in the same city area. But you cannot beat that kind of service by Buy.com. My favorite store.

This modem worked fine out of the box, as soon as I cleared it's MAC address with my cable internet provider. It was an upgrade to the same brand modem I bought 5 years ago, and is a lot faster. I would highly recommend it.
