| | Professional Reviews | Variety.com 8 of 10 Mencia proves a genial presence, which provides a bit of a cushion through the bumpy spots, and the series conveys some of the irreverence that has made "Chappelle's Show" a hit by the cablercabler's short-attention-span standards. In most respects, then, so far, so good, with the disclaimer that as constructed, there's a lingering sense that "Mind of Mencia" will be tapped out of ideas by episode tres. - Brian Lowry Entertain Your Brain! 7 of 10 Mencia is very politically incorrect, which I like, so I was hoping that Mind of Mencia would be hilarious. I have to say that it didn't crack me up in the way that I'd hoped. I hate to say this, but Chappelle really raised the bar, but if he is going to do a show that is so similar in style, he will have to invite comparisons. I do see potential though, so I'm definitely going to keep checking it out. I want to find out what is really in the mind of Mencia, and I hope that it will include more than just Iraqi jokes. - Shawn McKenzie

3 of 5 Not up to Dave Chappelle standards Thursday, October 05, 2006 A Viewer from Chattanooga, TN
Some laughs and grins, but mostly dry pro-Immigrant banter. Illegal immigrants aren't just cleaning toilets, picking veggies, and standing at Home Depot waiting for a pickup to take them to their daily jobs. Their children are getting free minority scholarships and becoming well-educated contenders for jobs that American Citizens definitely want. And, breaking the law and flaunting it in the faces of citizens under the guise of ethnic comedy just isn't funny. Sorry, I didn't enjoy most of the shows.
One "bit" shows a TV news clip portraying a young "hispanic" male wading in deep water in post-Katrina New Orleans as "luting" items in a large plastic bag while similar "white" victims were "finding" items. The non-comedic truth is that one was stealing electronics and the other was stealing food to survive. So, the media was correct in how they labeled each person...it wasn't blatant racism as Mr. Mencia suggested and it had nothing to do with humor but all to do with his agenda.
Carlos Mencia does have a pro-illegal-immigrant agenda with all of his comedy; therefore, its just not funny at times and discriminates against non-people-of-color in a racist manner. Other than that, its great humor and will get you laughing. I won't buy season two, however, because his humor is just not my cup of tea. Maybe its your's, but this is my opinon - what's yours?
