5 of 5 Works great right out of the box Monday, May 25, 2009 pete from atl ga
Works great right out of the box. Not to hard to set up for local weather. Excellent device and works well. A lot of weather information. Clock radio and alarm work great too. Highly recommended. All it needs is the atomic automatic time. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Every family should have one! Monday, April 27, 2009 Karen from Kaufman, TX
I just recently bought 2 of these weather radios and the timing was perfect. We set up our radio this past weekend and are so glad we did. We had a tornado warning in the county we live in just this morning. It is very reassuring knowing that when we sleep at night, we don't have to worry about the weather. The radio will do that for us. I also gave one to my daughter who is away at college and feel a little safer knowing she has one. The reception is excellent and the set-up was easy, I just read the instructions. We have ours set on the siren alert at low volume and it wakes us up just fine. Everyone should have one of these. 5 of 5 Great Weather Alert Radio Tuesday, March 10, 2009 A Customer from Carrollton, Georgia
This is very easy to set up and works great! It can be used as a clock radio (has AM/FM channels) or as a stand-alone weather alert unit. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice Radio Monday, March 09, 2009 CG from Broadway, VA
Could be a little easier to use. Other than that, I love this thing. The weather alerts are great. I use the clock radio once in a while and that is nice as well. Reception seems to be pretty good on it as well. I would try this before I try anything else, BUT you may want to make sure you receive S.A.M.E Alerts in your area or it will not work for you. 5 of 5 Excellent unit Tuesday, December 02, 2008 Rich K9AAO from Affton, MO
This weather radio does exactly what it is designed to do... monitor NWS and alert you with warnings/watches. It is easy to set up IF a person reads the manual. The selective alert disabling feature makes this radio worth a lot more. I use it in conjunction with our local Skywarn program as I am a trained spotter. The price is unbeatable. It amounted to $7.00 more than the local price for the WR-100 which is no where near this radio in capability. If you need a weather radio, buy this one. If you want a AM/FM clock radio... buy a clock radio! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 It's a TWISTER Saturday, October 18, 2008 Rick S. from Arlington Texas
Well, I have this product that looks great, easy to set up, but until we get a rip roaring storm I won't know how the alarm works. But I had one before and I trust it will do exactly what it was designed to do. And if I never here that alarm, that will be fine too. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Pretty Good For A Chinese Product Monday, September 29, 2008 A Customer from Murphy, NC
The radio performs as advertised since reception in this area is OK at my location. The setup is easy to access but the actual setup can be somewhat confusing for a six year old child. It is best to review completely the setup options since there are many combinations that can be achieved. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works like it should... Sunday, September 14, 2008 A Customer from Greers Ferry, AR
After having a tornado destroy our new house and losing all of our personal items, a weather radio was a "natural" purchase! This was easy to program and is easy to use. The only thing I haven't figured out is how to "erase" alerts that have expired! It's worked for several storms in the area! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Another product you hope you never need... Saturday, September 06, 2008 Glenn A from Melbourne FL
...like a fire extinguisher, airbags, and the flotation device under your airline seat. I also only HOPE it works, just like the airbags in my car but fortunately haven't been 'toned out' yet by the National Weather Service. Sure you can push the buttons and hear the forecast but there is no way of telling if it works until the NWS does it's emergency broadcast.
I didn't buy this for the quality of the AM/FM radio so the complaints about the fidelity don't bother me. That part works fine anyway. I don't use it as a radio alarm clock because the display is LCD and you can't see it at night unless you turn on the backlight full time and then it lights the whole room in a blue-green glow.
The important part about this item is that it works when you need it and all the reviews seem to indicate it is the best one out there. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 GREAT!!! Saturday, August 23, 2008 Stuart from Painesville, Ohio
The overall performance is great. Very easy to program. Even has an AM/FM radio built in and also an alarm clock. I even bought one for my parents. Great piece of equipment to help keep you safe. I'd buy another one. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Every household NEEDS one of these Sunday, July 27, 2008 Daron from Pontiac, IL
If you live anywhere in the U.S. that has dangerous weather conditions, you need one of these radios. It can literally save your life. It is an amazing piece of technology and performs well. Replace your alarm clock with this unit. It gives you all the features of your current alarm with the peace of mind knowing that you will be warned of weather conditions that threaten life and property. It is very compact and fairly easy to use. I truly believe every household should have at least one of these.

The Midland 300 has been around for several years now and has honestly reached the end of its useful life in the competitive field of weather radios. While the radio does provide weather warning notification, Midland decided to take the cheap way out and not fully support the SAME protocol, which is what allows the radio to sound a warning for your specific area. More current and better manufactured radios like the Reecom 1630 & 1650 are fully Public Alert CEA-2009-A Certified.
In practical terms, this means the Reecom will automatically silence itself as soon as the "End of Message" data bursts are sent at the end of a warning. The Midland will keep you up nights or drive you crazy during the day by only shutting off after five minutes after the warning sounds.
At this price range, the Midland should support that feature, and it does not. As of the summer of 2008, there are now better choices from Reecom in this price range. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best purchase we've made in months! Sunday, July 13, 2008 A Customer from Ozark, MO
Living in SW Missouri, we should have had one of these years ago! The relative ease of setup was a nice surprise & delivery took only two days. Since we've installed the WR300, it has alerted us to several severe thunderstorms & flash flood warnings. We love the flexibility to program the unit for weather alerts in the counties of our choosing & feel much safer knowing it has a battery backup in case of power failure! I can understand why this unit is recommended as #1 by serious weather enthusiasts...I whole-heartedly recommend it as well!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Does exactly what it should! Saturday, July 05, 2008 shansen from Omaha, NE
This clock radio/weather radio is a breeze to setup and I love the fact that it can be customized for just the counties in my immediate area. I can hear the alerts from anywhere in the house. With the summer we've had, couldn't live without one any longer....and if you can only get one, make it this one!! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 plastic security Tuesday, June 10, 2008 K doub from Warsaw, In
This is my first weather radio. I am very happy with it. I struggled a little during the set up but after the programming was squared away every thing was cool. The second night we had it alarms went off. Thunder storms, tornado and amber alerts. My wife feels better now that it is up and running.
This unit was bought at a very reasonable price. I am pleased hows it works and would recommend it to others.

5 of 5 Happy with multi-function Wednesday, May 28, 2008 Dale from Huntsville, Al.
I like this radio for many reasons:
It doubles as a clock radio.
Programming is easy.
Battery backup so you can disconnect it and take it to your storm safety location.
S.A.M.E. technology. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Ugly but amazingly useful. Thursday, May 15, 2008 A Customer from Fort Worth, TX
I think the _only_ downsides to this product is that it's ugly as sin, and that the battery backup can't be recharged (one of the competitors' radios did that).
This works exactly like I wanted it to. Spent 20 minutes figuring out which areas I wanted monitored, which alerts I needed, added a couple nearby counties, and voila. Two nights after I got it, we had a bad thunderstorm - hail, bad lightning, but no tornados. It warned me 15 minutes in advance (first county), and then 5 minutes in advance (as it crossed the second county I programmed in). I can walk by, hit the button, and get a weather forecast. If there's an alert I missed, there's a light on for it. Clicking up or down gives the missed warnings. Brilliant. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Value Thursday, May 15, 2008 A Customer from St. Louis, MO
I am very satisfied with this product. The setup instruction are unclear in some areas. It would be nice if the manufacturer would read customer comments. In this case better instructions would make a good product better. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Best weather radio in its price range Thursday, May 01, 2008 A Customer from Raleigh, NC
Pros: S.A.M.E. codes to restrict alerts to only one or a group of counties (or respond to all received messages if desired), selective disabling of alerts (can set it to give audible alerts only for particular messages such as tornados if desired), selectable alert type (voice or siren), battery backup (works during power failures). Cons: Alert type selection is global (cannot choose voice for thunderstorms and siren for tornados, must pick one or the other for all messages), user interface is a little tricky (you probably need to read the manual for this one). Comments: Not the best AM/FM radio, but quite adequate for the purpose (useful during power failures). One additional note: there are two types of tornado messages (watch and warning). You can disable alerts for the watch, but not the warning. Tornado warning means a tornado actually exists. The tornado warning message does not show up in the list of different messages stored in the weather radio, but according to Midland, it is there and if the NWS sends a tornado warning message, the radio will respond to it. 4 of 5 Great features and portable Tuesday, April 15, 2008 Will from Madison, AL
Many weather related alerts. Easy to setup for your area. Nice design. The reqular radio features works great and the system will overide and still give you any alerts that is in your area.
Highly recommended. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Recommended Sunday, April 13, 2008 A Customer from Michigan
I am a weather enthusiast and own several weather related products. The WR-300 is an excellent NOAA all hazards alerts radio. It performed as advertised during our first major spring storm outbreak (including tornado watches and tornado warnings) two days ago.
Previously I owned a lower end weather radio (not a Midland) that provided very few options and had only fair sound quality. The WR-300 has great features and allows many user controlled options (especially with S.A.M.E.) and has good sound quality and an attractive design. Highly recommended for the serious weather enthusiast. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A good buy Sunday, April 06, 2008 Dan Hendrick from Moody, AL
Works great and can potentially save lives. I feel safer with it at my side at night. The audible and visual alerts are fantastic. Can't beat the value. The only downside is the long set up due to the large number of different alerts. It is cumbersome with scroll through and pick the ones that you want to be alerted about. Overall, I would certainly recommend it and think every family should have one. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Midland WR-300 Wednesday, March 19, 2008 A Customer from Winston Salem, NC
Very nice weather alert with nifty features. Like the layout of buttons on front. Would recommend spending the few extra bucks. Selecting the counties to add is very nice. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice radio for good price Tuesday, December 11, 2007 A Customer from York, PA
Got this after researching for about a week. This model seemed to offer the most bang for the buck. The setup takes about 15-20 minutes but after you get started it isn't hard to do. There are plenty of options you can choose from in setting the alerts. Plus you have the ability to add an external antenna if desired. I read some complaints about the am/fm, but hey...it's an emergency alert radio. I didn't buy it to listen to music. So far it received the weekly alert but I don't think any other alerts have been issued, so I haven't been able to evaluate that yet. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Does a nice job Thursday, November 29, 2007 A Customer from Cabool, Missouri
This is really a pretty nice weather radio, for the price. Works well, easy to set up. The speaker is of low quality, however, you're probably not going to listen to a symphony on this radio anyway. The speaker is fine for weather updates and the occasional ballgame. This is a good deal. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Feeling safer Tuesday, May 15, 2007 Ed....................... from Livingston, Texas
Since receiving the alert radio it has received much use here in southeast Texas. I am quite satisfied with it's operation and would recommend it for anyone concerned with weather safety or any type of public emergency. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Satisfied Thursday, April 05, 2007 Larry from Columbus, MS
I waited to write this review, so that I could see how it would perform during bad weather. I received the watches as soon as they were release, quicker than on the local TV channel. The warning message came about 2:00 AM for the Specific county that I set. This weather radio has all the feature that I was looking for and can operate up to 30 hours on 4 AA batteries. An optional DC adapter can be purchase from Midland or Radio Shack. The radio has good reception range. I am about 45 miles from the closest weather reporting station. I live out in the county, about 15 miles to the city. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good product--read the instructions! Thursday, March 29, 2007 A Customer from NC
I wanted a weather alert radio to wake us up for serious weather. This unit is a higher end alert radio that has LOTS of useful features such as choosing mulitple geographical locations and, most importantly, the ability to specify which of many types of alerts you want to set off an alarm (do you really need iceberg and avalanche warnings waking you up?). You receive all types of alerts on the LED screen, but only those you specify set off an alarm. It's a little bit tricky to set up unless you read the entire instruction book first--it's 30 short pages, but it goes very fast because you don't really need 50% of it. Pay special attention to the names of the buttons and mark the sections of the book you want to follow. Then go back and do each step in order and it takes no more than 20 minutes including eliminating avalanche warnings! Given the number of gadgets on this thing, it's well designed--just too many choices for a weather radio (like a mediocre clock radio). Nonetheless, it works well and is a good value given the flexibility. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Product Wednesday, March 21, 2007 A Customer from Foley, AL
I bought two ot these ..... one for myself, and one for an elderly aunt and uncle. Only regret is that retail stores do not stock such a product which would make it available to everyone in my hurricane prone area.
An excellent product that everyone that lives on the gulf coast should have. Was this review helpful?

weather radio works well....seems to be user freindly and has a really cool display. FM/AM memory suck...only 3 memory stations for am and 3 for fm....it should have at least 6 for each. This is my 3rd weather radio from midlands and so far it seems to be the best...of course thats still not saying that much regarding the technology which could be used. But it is the best I have seen out in marketing land and has a very good price Was this review helpful?
