4 of 5 XP rejected nearly all my hardware drivers. Sunday, September 29, 2002
    biomadman1 from napa,ca

Eventhough hunting down drivers can be timely, and sometimes counter-effective process. XP's compatiblity mode tweaked the disabled "x" to abled"x", and formed a pseudosubordant junction that's tangable for all Win O/S. In other words, if I were using Win.98 with this problem, the PC would go from a network of super conducters, with all the wistles and horns, too a piece of modern fine art.

4 of 5 Tips before buying Monday, April 08, 2002
    A Customer from Texas
A few of things to remember about XP. 1. Microsoft left off dual-monitor support on the Home Edition, which is a shame since monitor prices are so cheap these days. You have to get the Pro addition to gain this luxury. Why? Good question, Windows 98 supported dual monitor fine. 2. As usual, Microsoft invades your privacy. The system will not let you un-install Windows Messenger unless you modify the registry. Amazingly, if you delete the actual system file for Windows Messenger, it will re-create itself. Uninstalling it isn't difficult to do if you do a search on the web, but you will never find this out with Microsoft's "help" program. 3. Don't install this unless you have a fairly new machine. I really like this OS, but it does tax the system quite a bit. You really need at least 256 MB or memory for it to work well. It practically gobbles memory. I am amazed that over 200 MB of memory can be consumed by doing absolutely nothing in Windows XP. 4. Overall, I really like XP. I would recommend it for all new and fairly-new machines. I just wish Microsoft would take out product activation (annoying) and quit forcing Messenger on everybody.

    5 of 5 WINDOWS XP NON-ACTIVATION!!!! Tuesday, December 11, 2001
A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
I have Windows and Office XP as part of my MSDN subscription, its only worth it because my company pays the annual fee. I would stick with W2K because XP forces you to have to pretty heavy hardware.

5 of 5 XP is the best operating system available Sunday, December 09, 2001
    Rick from TX
I highly recommend Windows XP. It is the best Windows operating system ever. It is fast, stable and fun to use. Try a video phone call to friends using Windows Messenger. Just hook up your camera and headset, you'll be amazed how great it works.

5 of 5 Windows XP? for me? Sunday, November 11, 2001
    Jason from Walla Walla, Wa
The last reviewer obviously never used this operating system, I bought this and found that all the so called "Services", are uninstallable, with exception to .net passort, which you have an OPTION to use, its not required. anyway, enough of that. This OS is stable, it does have pretty steep system requirements. Never had a problem with it. runs great basically just like windows 2000, except a little faster using business applications(MS Office), and not bad for gaming. I suggest doing more research before diving into the wonderful world of XP. If your not running Windows 2000, upgrade to XP, if you meet the system requirements!

5 of 5 The best operating system I ever have tried! Sunday, November 11, 2001
    John Pombrio from Manchester, CT
I have used them all, Unix, Linux, MAC, and every Microsoft product since DOS 5.0. WFW 3.11, Win95, 98, 98SE, ME, Windows NT 4.1 and Windows 2000. Windows XP is simply the best I have ever used. I installed this on my main machine and fell in love with it. I then went and bought two more copies for my son's computers. Three copies in less than a week. That is unheard of for me! It is dead simple to load, recognized everything in and attached to my computers, and fixed all of the problems I and my sons were having with ME and 98SE. It networked to my cable modem, router, and the other PCs in the house flawlessly. The interface is slick and the control over programs and processes is great. It feels like a Unix machine in the way that you have control and its ease of networking. Linux better watch out. XP made everything run faster, web pages, boot time, network transfers, and program loads. My GE Force 2 graphics card is running quicker. So far, it has run everything I have tried and I have a lot of games and programs for work installed. This is one Microsoft product that you will need a copy for every computer in the house. That is really the only effect that the activation will force us to do. The activation only took a second or so. Maximum PC magazine showed how much I could upgrade before I needed to reactivate it (6 pieces of hardware, 4 pieces with the network card, or if I change the motherboard) One other thing to watch out for is that in upgrading my work computer, XP had me reactivate Microsoft Office XP and Microsoft Money 2002. If you have bootlegged copies of these programs, be prepared! (I found a long time ago that bootlegging is more a pain than it is worth). Why did I spend all this time writing this? Mainly to let people know that Windows XP really is something special.

5 of 5 Windows XP Pro is worth it! Sunday, November 04, 2001
A Customer from South Lake Tahoe, CA
I recently installed windows xp pro and have had no problems at all with it. It runs much smoother than Windows Me and 98, with a different and much cooler look. It's definetly worth it

5 of 5 XP is great Monday, October 29, 2001
    A Customer from Birmingham
The new Windows XP Professional edition is ideal for advanced users. There are many more things included with the operating system which give a good overall system performance. It is also ideal for small networks in the home and large ones too and the built in firewall which is included too provides extra security. I have had a great experience with XP and will be using it from now on as I have found it is a lot better than previous windows versions.

5 of 5 Much more stable Thursday, October 25, 2001
    Clint from Carmel, CA
This OS is a lot more stable than Windows NT and runs much faster. It has a pretty heavy hardware requirement but with the price of memory these days that shouldn't hold anyone back from upgrading to XP.
