I upgraded from Windows XP to Vista and let me tell you it is a nightmare. Installing Vista is so much more work than it is ever worth it. I have worked for more than a day on all the issues that came up and I am still stuck with some hard core problems. My main points against upgrading are:
1. The upgrade advicer tool does not give you all the software you have to deinstall to avoid system crashes. I deinstalled a lot, but I am stil stuck with programs that crash vista and that I can't deinstall, because their deinstall feature does not run under vista.
2. Vista can't handle two monitors. I have two identical monitors. The second does not work properly with Vista. AND if you have two monitors the Aero feature does not work.
3. Vista needs tons of hard drive space even after the installation. It keeps downloading tons of upgrades.
4. If you run into problems the microsoft customer service is very nice, but not very helpful. Their advice is something my 65 year old mom could have thought of, but that does solve the problem. So contacting takes a lot of time.
Overall, Vista Ultimate is not yet ready for prime time. Unless you have tons of free time to dedicate to your computer, don't upgrade. Wait for fools like me to report all the problems. Was this review helpful?

This is 'the DUMBEST' operating system, I ever encountered.
Probably I will ever encounter too.

An offer was made at Microsoft for 1/2 off the price on Vista premium for 2 other computers. I filled in all the information and clicked the button and the site generated an error message. On my first attempt to upgrade from Vista Ultimate Beta version the upgrade would not install. On the 2nd attempt the install went through - quirky. I am not sure what the problem is yet or what to do other than what I am doing. The operating system will not install. Everything looks like it should work with no probablems, but it just won't install. I am working with Microsoft and the mfg of my computer to resolve the issue. I think its great, but not yet ready for the average user. Also the licensseing is a serious pain in the butt. Had to call microsoft to reactivate just because of a BIOS update. Also several pieces of old hardware don't work without serious hacking most users won't be able to do. I recommend waiting 6 months for them to iron things out and for vendors to get the drivers out.
