5 of 5 Most Reliable Lightscribe Performer Thursday, September 25, 2008 Frederick Dunn (photographer) from Erie, Pennsylvania
As a professional photographer, data DVD back up discs are critical to my work and archiving system.
I've used several lightscribe products from several manufacturers. I don't care what they cost, only how reliably they burn and a consistent level of quality as printable media.
the Memorex LightScribe DVD-R, CD-R, and DVD-R DL discs are time savers, as they have never shown bad sectors during the burn/write process.
I only have so much time for studio work, so a disc that fails or has a bad sector in the end, is simply more than an inconvenience... it's time lost and possibly an unhappy client.
I also use them to send commercial work to publishers located in various parts of the country. I always send two copies of the necessary assignment just to be certain that at least one disc is good at the other end. Memorex discs have n e v e r failed and have proven to be very durable when mailed and even mis-handled.
The LightScribe aspect cuts cost and is more reliable than adhesive disc labels or the white "printable" discs, which require ink and another printing system.
The only drawback with LightScribe and it's not unique to Memorex, is the time to burn the label... I've resolved that by having a system set aside for labeling/burning alone, this way my primary workhorse computers are not tied up during a label burn.
I won't name the other lightscribe disc manufacturers in order of quality... but if they make a lightscribe capable media disc, I've tried them... one manufacturer had a 20% or higher failure rate when burning data..... out of a spool of 50 discs, 10 discs were found to be bad (data lost) during the after burn quality check. That's outrageous!
My shelves are stocked with Memorex exclusively... I hope this can save some furture buyer some time.
So, in the end, Memorex discs are more reliable as data backups
they are tougher when being handled, even by the U.S. Mail.
And, are my ONLY choice when it comes to backing up invaluable photography projects.
My customers have always been very impressed to see their title and image inscribed on the surface of their photo disc. It's a classy look. Was this review helpful?
