I bought this from Buy.com when it was on sale for around $.... It was super easy to hook up and set up was a breeze. So far it has worked perfectly. The ease of use and speed of recording is great for a novice and computer illiterate. I highly recommend this player if you want a good easy DVD recorder for your computer. The fact that it an external player makes set up even easier.

Has worked very well for me, so well I bought two units. One to keep at the office the other to use as an alternate recorder for my laptop.

got this from buy.com last week, though it looks good and support both usb2/1394a, i find it a bit too noisy(with vib) when idle(not always), it comes with 2 1394 cables but no usb. my 1st trial burn was a success without too much effort on s/w installing and use. the included nero 6 is kind of old and does not look like feature packed though the most annoying thing is it suggests the burner would not work or only works as a reader/cd-write or only burn dvd not readable to other players if you don't buy a separated version to replace this Memorex OEM vers in 30 days. so you have to add a nero 7 price on the top of burner when comparing this to others. btw, the buy.com free shipping have been great, took about half time it promised while with amazon, after 4 days, an in-stock book still not leave the warehouse, the 3-5 day amzn free-ship can only guarantte to ship out of its warehouse door. :(

I have been able to burn DVDs fairly easily. Performance is good over USB 2.0 naturally. The nero software along with this package is not good. It does not have a recoder and other features are anyway trial version.

I bought this exact same burner from Fry's electronics $35.00! It was on sale and I had to have a burner but didn't have much money. I wanted a BenQ and preferred it up until I installed this one. I've had it almost a year and it came with Nero Suite 6. I already had Nero 7 Ultra Edition so I didn't use it. The memorex burner is stable, burns great and 16x's speed with no errors on +/-R. I've used both cheap and good media and haven't a moment of problems. You just can't beat that! The price, the performance, it's easy to install and use, it does everything it's supposed to do! How could you possibly beat it. I have not even had to update firmware. I owned a NEC previously which I thought I liked very much, but I was weary of having to update firmware. Memorex! WOW! Whodathunkit!

Okay I absolutely love this DVD Burner, but word of advice DO NOT use the Nero software!!!

Memorex has perfromed above expectations. I installed it myself. The biggest caveat is the lousy bundled software by Nero. Throw it out, but keep the Memorex. Had nothing but an attempt at TOTAL takeover by Nero - so bad I had to re-register my windows XP because Nero changed my registery files. Their bundled software was 14 snippets of their stuff. Imagine my surprise to learn (on their web site) that I had to upgrade before it would even work with windows XP. That ment no less than five required downloads - each separately. On the printed page Nero took a bad shot at Roxio - a program I've used for years with great success. Memorex looks good - works good - and does everything it says it will do. Just don't use the Nero stuff.

Great burner. Stylish and does what you intend it to do with great speed. One thing though, you may need to update the NERO OEM software that comes with it. I was having a problem burning a multiple photo slide show in a DVD (getting some error from the NERO application). I updated the software and it fixed the problem and the creation process of the photo slide was twice as fast IMO. However, once you upgrade the version, you would loose the main start up screen that comes with the OEM.
