Meet the Future of Family!

Features: DVD

Have the "time" of your life with Disney's fun-filled comedy Meet the Robinsons, a thrilling adventure that takes you to a whole new world full of imagination and surprises. It's "a masterpiece," raves John Anderson of Newsday. Join a brilliant young inventor named Lewis as he sets off on a time-traveling journey to find the family he never knew. In the fantastical world of 2037, hip-hoppin' frogs and dogs that wear glasses are as common as talking dinosaurs. In an amazing twist, Lewis discovers that the fate of the future rests in his hands, but he can't save it alone -- he'll need every bit of help he can get from the wonderfully wacky Robinson family, who help him learn to keep moving forward and never stop believing in himself. Blast off with Meet the Robinsons -- complete with never-before-seen bonus features, including an all-new game, deleted scenes and much more. It's an exciting trip your whole family will enjoy!

"A visual treat with an engaging story that has an uplifting, but not maudlin, message."  Claudia Puig, USA Today
"When it enters the future, it's a new-fangled, old-fashioned jim-dandy of a show."  Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune
"...a large step toward making 3D a sustainable format, the CinemaScope of tomorrow."  Scott Tobias, The Onion A.V. Club
"Simply put, it's terrific."  Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer
"A sharp-minded, plenty entertaining toon that will keep children of all ages wide-eyed and on their toes."  Todd McCarthy, Variety

Editor's Note

Based on William Joyce's beautifully illustrated children's book A DAY WITH WILBUR ROBINSON, this lively computer-animated Disney film follows the adventures of Lewis (voiced by Jordan Fry and Daniel Hansen), a young orphaned inventor who is determined to find his birth mother by using a "memory scanner," a device of his own creation. When Lewis meets a boy from the year 2037 named Wilbur Robinson (Wesley Singerman), they begin a charmingly strange time-traveling journey that involves Wilbur's eccentric family, bowler hats bent on world domination, song-and-dance frogs, and a frustrated Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Boasting the debut of cutting-edge 3D technology, MEET THE ROBINSONS is helmed by first-time feature-film director Stephen J. Anderson, who also voices numerous characters, including the mustachioed villain, Bowler Hat Guy. (Other notable vocal actors include Angela Bassett, Tom Selleck, Adam West, Harland Williams, and Laurie Metcalf.) ROBINSONS also marks Pixar head John Lasseter's first outing as an executive producer on a non-Pixar movie, resulting in a film that features some of that company's signature energy and wit, but stands on its own outside of that universe. While ROBINSONS' literally all-over-the-place plot can be a little difficult to follow at times, its stunning retro-futuristic visuals and amiably wacky characters easily keep viewers entertained.

3 stars out of 5 -- "[With] a series of smart twists that make you sit up and take interest..." 12/01/2007 p.92

It's tempting to label Meet the Robinsons as just another in a long line of recent computer animated kid-traps, but it deserves a more upbeat description. Thankfully, we're not subjected to the new staple of the big-screen cartoon - anthropomorphized animals are kept to a minimum...It's fair to wonder whether young viewers will understand what's going on at times, since elements of Meet the Robinsons are based on tried-and-true time travel paradoxes. Then again, it may not matter. There's enough adventure and humor that understanding the intricacies of how a boy can alter his own time stream may not matter. Adults, I imagine, will figure out the "twist" pretty early; kids will be delighted when it's revealed. Meet the Robinsons is a fast paced, high energy offering; it passes by in a breeze and is enjoyable enough that I'm willing to forgive the two awful songs (one near the beginning, one near the end) and recommend it. - James Berardinelli

Blessed with one of the most fertile imaginations in contemporary children's literature, author/illustrator and sometime film/television producer William Joyce (Robots) delights readers of all ages with such zingy flights of fancy as Rollie Polie Olie and Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo. His 1993 time travel-themed picture book, A Day with Wilbur Robinson, gets the deluxe, 3-D digital big screen treatment in Meet the Robinsons, an immensely clever and swiftly paced charmer of buoyant silliness and visual pizzazz. Directed by first-timer Stephen J. Anderson, a Disney animator who also voices the role of the film's dastardly villain, Meet the Robinsons may not soar "to infinity and beyond" like Disney's Pixar classics Toy Story (1995) and The Incredibles (2004), but it's got wit, heart, and razzle-dazzle to spare. - Tim Knight

5 of 5 GREAT FLICK! Thursday, September 20, 2007
Travis from Riverside, CA

My family and I really enjoyed this movie. Through no fault of his own, the main character Lewis is part of the ultimate revenge plot. As an orphan trying to find the right "fit", Lewis is just too smart for his own good. He's whisked away to the future where he meets all kinds of interesting, odd ball characters that originally confuse him... but ultimately comes to care a great deal for. While trying to figure out whether he should stay in the future or return to his own time, Lewis is tormented by random problems caused by his nemesis, the "Bowler Hat Guy". Truly a fun adventure and the ending has surprises around every turn, leaving you with a smile on your face that will match your child’s.
