5 of 5 We have had 6 of these and 3 have gone bad! Wednesday, December 17, 2008 Very Unhappy from Boise Idaho
We have 6 of these hard drive and had 3 of them go bad. Two were still under warrenty but the replacements they sent went bad too. One was replaced with a bad one that didn't work when we received it. My son and daughter-in-law bought one....it went bad and was replaced under warrenty with one that went bad and had to be replaced. DO NOT BUY ONE. Besides the headaches of having to recopy the data, there was also some data that was lost. Several thousand dollars thrown away! Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Back-Up Data with This? Monday, August 25, 2008 A Customer from Old Lyme, CT
I purchased this hard drive to back up my home office data and to archive family photos, movies, tax records. Great decision - in less than 18 months it began to act up. Luckily I moved about 300 GB (of about 800 GB) of data to another drive I was using as a back up to my Apple MacBook Pro, before it just started clicking and stopped responding entirely.
I have tried various data recovery programs to no avail. There seems to be something physically/mechanically wrong with the mechanism and the longer it ran on one program the more bad blocks it made. Overall I think it is a really poor quality device. Have replaced it with a 2TB drive from Western Digital. No issues in 6 months but I am looking to buy another back up soon (have a Canon EOS 5D camera and take about 2 GB of photos every other week at family gatherings, which leads to collections of large, growing data storage needs in a few years). 5 of 5 Good unit all around Friday, November 30, 2007 JHRJ Productions www.jhrj.com from Ankeny, IA
I have been using this unit for about 1 month now. We bought them for storage of digital video and media for our Videography business. So far not one problem. We originally formatted the drive for RAID 1 because the unit was to be a back up of our more portable drives. Then space was getting tight and we decided to format to RAID 0 with the Maxtor one touch program after we did so the Maxtor one touch program viewed the drive as 1 TB but Windows XP viewed it as 500GB still we had to go into windows disk management and reformat from there and then every thing was great we have a little over 700GB on it right now and it is going strong. So go ahead and buy away.
We are using the unit on a Windows XP Media Center Edition. thru the USB 2.0 port. Was this review helpful?
