Unlike some of the other reviewers here, I have been able to connect my OneTouch 4 Mini to my MacBook Pro with a single usb cable, no problem at all. When first setting it up, I connected it to my MBP, which powered it up and recognized it instantly. I then copied the included software directly to my laptop's HD. Then using the software, I reformatted the OneTouch Mini 4 for my Mac, and set up a backup schedule for selected folders (photos,) and it was good to go. Also, I have no problems connecting the cable to the OneTouch Mini 4 first, then just plug the other end into my laptop, unlike the reviewer below who says he has to do it the other way around. I just use a spare usb cable that came with one of my digital cameras - works like a charm.
So far, it works exactly as I would expect, and for $89 on sale it was a real bargain. I haven't tried connecting it through a usb hub, but for a portable drive which goes along with my MBP in my backpack, it's perfect. Was this review helpful?

Great for automatic backups, set it and forget it. Needs 2 powered USB ports. Included software does not allow selection of files in windows directory or program files, so beware of this current limitation. There is an option to backup/restore whole hard drive. Easy install. The Maxtor OneTough 4 Mini is an excellent product. The included SafteyDrill software copies system files to the external hard drive and allows recovery in the event of corruption or failure of your internal hard drive. Was this review helpful?

Did not use it much yet, but the product looks are great and seems to perform fine and quietly.
One thing that bothered me is that comes with the Y USB cable thought with my Macboo Pro doesn't seem to need it, but be aware that in order for the drive to mount you have to first plug the cable to the computer and then to the hard drive, quite annoying thought it says so in the quick start guide that comes with it (what I never read) Was this review helpful?

This works just fine and I managed to buy it on sale so I'm satisfied with it. HOWEVER...
It's loaded with special backing-up software. Personally I have so many back-up redundancies, I don't need that. I am looking for a pocket-sized, portable harddrive that I can move between computers...work, home, travel, etc. This fits my needs and has a good sized capacity.
What they don't tell you in the specs but which you MUST HAVE is TWO available USB ports directly into the computer. This will not work through a hub. It will not work if even one of the two USB cables is in a hub.
This is actually quite inconvenient as more and more add-ons need those same ports. I must disconnect my printer and keyboard (or my printer and my hub- which has an external hard-drive, camera and external dvd recorder on it) in order to use this device. It's do-able, but it's not simple. Was this review helpful?
