My wife signed up for a photography class that required students to provide their own external drives. We had been considering a portable drive purchase anyway so this gave us the reason to buy one. We were already proud owners of a Maxtor 750GB OneTouch Plus which I absolutely love so I was in favor of buying another Maxtor. So we got the portable 250 and it works great! Compact and light, very fast, and extremely quiet. The only issue was that my wife's class uses Macs so I had to reformat the drive from the default NTFS file system to use FAT32 so she could use it there yet share files with her home PC. I highly recommend this portable drive.

these are adorable little drives which are sturdy and great - when they work. I've had a lot of problems with them whirring and failing and becoming completely useless. i don't recommend these. i would pay a little more and get a WD passport or iomega.

Purchased Maxtor 250GB One Touch 4 Mini USB 2.0 5400 RPM Portable External Hard Drive - STM902503OTA3E1-RK. Product arrived very quickly and was EXACTLY what I wanted and expected. Worked great out of the box. I use it for backing up my LAPTOP - carry it in my laptop briefcase and it's perfect. I recommend it and BUY.COM for anyone.

Saw one of these at a friend's house right around the time I was looking for a similar drive. Great price here on Buy.com, superb performance, great design (matches my Dell XPS 630 PC, actually) and does everything I need. I use it for hard drive imaging (don't use the Maxtor software) but my friend DOES use the included software and it rocks. Perfect for her, super simple, set it and forget it backups.

Nice hard-drive. Compact, easy to use and install. One disapointement is that it uses up 2 USB slots on the computer. I realize that one is used to power the drive but I wasn't expecting that and I have limited usb ports. The other bigger disappointment for me is that this drive is advertised as a full backup solution including software that allows you to sync drives and automatically schedule backups but the software that's included does not handle multiple user accounts set up on a Windows XP operating system. If you are running XP and have accounts set up for different members of your family forget about using the backup software that comes bundled with this product. This was one of the main reasons why I bought this drive and I ended up having to get other software for my backups. There are many people complaining about this on the Maxtor support web site. My overall satisfaction is only 3 because of this.

Love this drive, it is small and convenient to carry from site to site, and is a must have for any computer technician. The five year manufacturer warranty is an a great safety net. Couple of small things, I would not recommend this drive for your primary source of holding mission critical data. Since the drive is highly portable, it is also prone to carry damage, and a 4 foot fall can be a drive killer (which is not covered by warranty). This drive is phenominal for backing up your computer, and restore's are a breeze, but it is not a speed demon, so patience is a virtue. I have installed these a 5 client sites who love them too, especially for the one button backups. One thing not mentioned in the other reviews is that this drive is powered by the USB ports on your PC. If you are short on USB slots, keep in mind that this item (in most cases) requires 2 USB ports, one for power, and one for data and power. If you have a powered USB hub, this many not be necessary, but on 3 of the 5 PC's mentioned, the Y USB cable was a necessity.

I love this drive! It's super small at 6 ounces, so I carry it everywhere with my pictures, photos, and videos. The backup software is really slick. I use it to back up my system every night so if my computer hard drive ever dies, I have all my data protected. It's a classy looking hard drive that's plenty fast for my needs. I've trusted the Maxtor/Seagate name for over 10 years and will continue to buy their storage products. Buy.com price rocks, too!
