Two of Louis Armstrong's best-known hits, "Mack the Knife" and "A Kiss to Build a Dream On," are here; Duke Ellington is well represented too, with two tracks of his own ("Take the 'A' Train" and "Sophisticated Lady"), as well as an Oscar Peterson version of "Satin Doll." Meanwhile, Cannonball Adderley performs his jazz-funk hits "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" and "The Work Song," and Thelonious Monk plays his oft-covered "Epistrophy." Overall, it's a good basic sampler for casual jazz fans. ~ Steve Huey |
