What makes this compilation especially nice is that it mixes time periods and genres, hopping from country (Willie Nelson's "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town") to R&B (Luther Vandross's "This Is Christmas") to modern yuletide favorites (Nat King Cole's definitive version of "The Christmas Song"). Where else can you find Mariah Carey, Gene Autry, and Tony Bennett in one place crooning about wintry nights and good cheer? Whatever your opinion of Martha Stewart, you've got to hand it to her, she's got taste by the bowlful. | | The universe's foremost authority on homemaking (save for Sue Ann Nivens) has a knack for curating background music ideal for all holiday occasions, whether used as a soundtrack to an upscale, intimate dinner party or just for wrapping gifts and baking cookies. On this installment of her Living Music series, Martha Stewart presents an eclectic 18-song offering of modern and classic vocal adult contemporary holiday favorites by such artists as Tony Bennett, Jos? Feliciano, Martina McBride, Mariah Carey, and Luther Vandross, among others. The songs and their performances are warm, comforting, and highly inoffensive, with the only foul committed in the compilation's sequencing (it's mildly jarring at points).
