Aside from the rest of an impressive list of credits, he has produced several excellent compilations prior to this effort, mostly focusing on Cajun and zydeco of fairly recent (post-1970) vintage. This holds true here, with most of the album being drawn from post-1990 recordings, and the rest from 1985-1989. It's still a splendid collection, however, with a great deal of energetic rumbling and thumping, and a strong brass band presence (with the ReBirth Brass Band and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band amongst those showing up). Definitely a worthwhile party album, with excellent choices and effective sequencing -- and no sign of "Iko Iko." ~ Steven McDonald |
