5 of 5 I am 100% satisfied with the Magellan 3000T Tuesday, March 25, 2008 Roman from Collegeville MN
This is my first GPS and after a month or so I purchased a second identical one. It's very easy to use with touch screen response, quick learning, and fast up and running. Signal access has not failed, automatic rerouting is quick, and the directions are faultless. It's the best invention since the electric screwdriver! What a life and time-saver! Everything comes with it. And what a buy especially with the refurbrished option! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Really good for the price Friday, February 22, 2008 Dee from Chicago, IL
This is my first GPS unit so I have no othe unit to compare it against. I have not used the "icing" features - photo viewer & mp3 player as those are least of my concerns when I am driving !
<br>As with any gadget, you need to understand it a bit and then everything becomes crystal clear, for example, if the voice says right turn in 500 feet, you should move into the right-most lane. And just before the turn, it will signal a bell so do not turn till you hear the bell.
<br>
<b>PROs:</b>
<ul>
<li>The unit computes the route quite fast & even if you miss a turn, it re-calculates the route quite quickly.
<li>The UI is really very intuitive and the instructions are very crisp and clear.
<li>The large & bright touchscreen has a good visibility even in bright sunlight & adjusts based on the time of day.
<li>The voice prompt is loud enough even at high speeds & also increases at high speeds.
<li>Address entry is very simple and fast as its suggestions help reduce clicks.
<li>I got a battery life of about 4 hours which I feel is decent enough and you have the car charger included anyways.
<li>Includes a wall charger & car charger so you can charge at home before leaving for the trip.
<li>Has a SD card slot just in case you want to carry your own card with a list of POIs & custom addresses or photos & music.
</ul>
<br>
<b>CONs:</b>
<ul>
<li>Unit is slightly heavy & bulky and difficult to handle.
<li>Touch-screen and large buttons all around ensure that you will accidentally click some button unwantingly.
<li>There is no facility to enter a starting address - it always takes the current address.
<li>POI database is very old and mostly useless. I searched for an Indian Restaurant and drove as per its instructions only to hear "You have arrived at the destination" at a complex where all the stores had closed down long ago!
<li>The website says that the maps update will be available in September 2007 but were not available till January 2008 and required a payment of around $70. I would rather add $30 and buy a new unit!
<li>Some of the routes it computed were not optimal and did not match with the ones created by Google Maps.
<li>Sometimes it takes quite a long time to acquire the GPS Signal.
</ul>
<br>
<b>Conclusion</b>
<br>It is a good value for the money when I bought it. Helps me reach the required destination smoothly and thats what counts at the end of the day ! Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 3 of 5 Buyer Beware Tuesday, January 29, 2008 mikect81 from Ann Arbor, MI
This unit is easy to set up, but sometimes the directions are seriously off. I was in Cincinnati and it told me that I needed to drive 400 miles to get to Ann Arbor,MI which is really only 180-200miles. I have had the unit for about 3 months. It broke after 2 months because I can no longer charge it, something came loose on the inside of the unit so now I cannot turn it on. I was very gentle with it but it broke anyway. I contacted Buy.com, and Magellan several times and neither has bothered to contact me with any help. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Fun to use Saturday, January 19, 2008 Mike from Austin, Texas
It's a good unit for the price but several things make it loose points. It is almost impossible to hold it without pressing one of the buttons so you are forced to mount it someplace. That makes it pretty useless as a hand held for hiking or biking. The base maps are OK but not current for fast growth areas and not always helpful in city settings with one way streets. ie: "Turn left" and it's a divided highway. Megellan also charges $80 for map upgrades and that's pretty steep considering what they just charged you for the unit. They should include the first upgrade for free. The display is bright and easy to read and once you get the hang of it creating your own POIs it pretty easy as well Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Refurbished - OK When it Works Thursday, December 06, 2007 A Customer from Novato, CA
I ordered this refurbished unit for the features at the price. The product arrived in the time expected. Everyting seemed to be working fine until I tried to charge the battery. The connector to the charger was faulty. I should have returned the product to BUY.com, but instead followed the instructions on the box to call Magellian technical support. I was assured that the problem was easy to fix and that it would take about two weeks ("probably less than one week") to get repaired under warranty. Well it took well over 8 weeks to get my unit back!!! All seems to work as described. I did find it difficult to figure out how to change my destination after starting. Until I stumbled on a solution, I had to reboot the device just to change the destination. Instructions could be better. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Return for repair "nightmare" Monday, December 03, 2007 dmkiedro from Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin
I received my reconditioned Magellan 3000T from Buy.com in just a few days. The unit functioned ok, but its battery wouldn't charge. Now the frustration begins. It took me a week and several calls to Magellan's support service to get an RMA number to send the unit in for repair. They wouldn't pay the return freight. They received the unit on 11-1-07. It's now 12-3-07 and I still don't have the unit back. I've made more than 10 calls and written several e-mails to them and I still don't know the status of my unit. Not happy! 4 of 5 Magellan RoadMate 3000T Friday, November 30, 2007 Dennis from Harrisburg, PA
THE GOOD - I have used the unit in the US and Canada with pretty good results. The suction cup mount does a great job of securing the unit to your windshield.
THE BAD - At times the unit stalls briefly, leaving you wondering if you pressed a button. Completely powering down the unit can take a few attempts. It is too easy to hit one of the buttons around the perimeter of the unit.
PS. I tried to exchange the unit, but my request was denied. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great accuracy! Thursday, November 29, 2007 undaunted from Hilton Head Island, SC
Fun, soothing voice commands. I had never used or seen being used a GPS system, so I did not know what to expect. It really is rather fun, and extremely accurate. At first I had a hard time recognizing the various option capabilities. I bit my hand and decided to read the manual rather than flying blind. Very enlightening. I love it! The price was great. 3 of 5 Magellan 3000T Thursday, November 29, 2007 Bruce from Bristol, CT
Overall I am satisfied with the operation & software for this GPS.
The only thing I wish you could do with this GPS is create you own route and save it.
It came with the car charger and 120vac chargers in the box. It has great ability to find and map banks, restaurants, hotels, gas stations, hospitals, etc. is amazing. It even provides the phone numbers so you can call for reservations.
Once in a while it locks up and you have to power it off and restart the GPS unit.
I have not yet been able to get a map update. I feel Magellan should provide map updates more often. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Completely satisfied Wednesday, November 28, 2007 TMK from Sidney, NY
This is the first GPS I've purchased, and I've been very happy. My only complaint is the predicted time is not extremely accurate. It shows it will take longer than the actual time. This is not a major issue, as I would rather it show a longer time than a shorter inaccurate time. Once you get used to the features and the key buttons to get to the features, it is fairly intuitive. A great price for someone who is looking for their first GPS. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good deal for the price Wednesday, November 28, 2007 David C. from North Kingstown, RI
I have had an opportunity to use this Magellin product over the past month. It is a great product for the price. The suction mount is heavy duty and the chargeable battery is convenient.
Why spend hundreds more for the functional equivalent? Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Magellan - just say no Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Stephen from Sarasota, FL
I recently got a refurbished 3000T and at first blush it was quite satisfactory. However, after spending $79+ for the upgrade to the most current maps (which might show my home as a ligitimate address, as well as many other addresses that have been around since 1975) I found that I could not upgrade it. When I registered the product with Magellan, I found it only has a 12 digit serial number. The site requires a 13 and was advised to enter a leading zero. When I got the upgrade DVD the 12 digit sn does not jive with the 13 digit and I was not allowed to upgrade. I called tech support and after 1/2 hour got a 1st level support from India who was next to impossible to understand. He could not resolve and took my info to get back with me. One month later no word. Contacted company and can get no satisfaction. Just say no to any Magellan product at any price. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great unit for the price! Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Long Valley New Jersey
I have had two GPS, the first was stolen and I was forced to purchase another. I did not want to spend too much, due to the fate of the first. The ease of use, and excellent features as well as a quick response to route changes make this a good unit for my purposes. This GPS was cheaper than the first, and I could not be more pleased. 5 of 5 Magellan Road Mate 3000T GPS Wednesday, November 28, 2007 rcdisinger from Mount Airy, MD
This is the second 3000T GPS unit I bought. I paid $150.00 less from BUY.COM than I did from another supplier for the first one. Both were refurbished units. The first one died when it fell from my motorcycle at 60 MPH and self-destructed. Don't use it on a motorcycle, the mount can't handle the vibration. This is a very simple product to use. Basically charge it and then put it in the car and follow simple directions. It gets me where I want to go and back. I took a 1200 mile road trip to a location I had never been to and I never looked at a map. It gave perfect directions. No "Bluetooth" feature but for the money I spent who cares! I took it on a flight to Alaska this summer and I was able to put it up to the window on the plane and get my location, air speed and altitude while entertaining myself and a flight attendant. She even called up to the pilot to verify the airspeed which was right on the mark! I would highly recommend this product and for the price it is almost a give-away. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Great GPS device, but concerned that it's a refurb Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Zebraitis from Salem Twp., MI
This is a great GPS.
If you have used the Hertz Neverlost (R) GPS in your rental car, this will be very familiar, as Magellan is provider.
Pros:
- Touchscreen
- Color
- Turn-by-turn vocal guidance
- Comes with all accessories
- My wife could use it (this is a HUGE plus!)
Cons:
- It is a refurb. Mine is already back in the box and on it's way back to Magellen to repair the power jack on the unit.
- The refurb warranty is only 90- days.
So, the 90 days gives you a chance to shake out the bugs.
I think that the value for price is better than most deals on buy.com, and even with the upcoming repair, I would still recommend this unit.

5 of 5 A great product Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Ron from Pittsburgh, PA
This GPS was a gift, and I have received rave reviews from the user. It stores photos and music and is an excellent GPS device. It works great right out of the box, and the price was terrific. I highly recommend it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Magellan Roadmate 3000T Wednesday, November 28, 2007 danlee_58 from Camden, DE
This is a great unit. It not only operates as a GPS unit, but also is an MP3 player. I play my MP3 audio files through my car audio system, when not using the GPS function. The only shortcomings are: The volume of the audio output could be higher, and it doesn't play MP3 files while it is in GPS mode. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Magellan RoadMate 3000T Compact Automotive GPS Sys Wednesday, November 28, 2007 quail from Bishop, CA
I read all the prior reviews before I finally made a decision to buy this product. The price was too good to pass up. It arrived 2 days before I even expected it (Thanks Buy.com). Right out of the box it worked perfectly. The wife and I took a 1000 mile trip the following week and the unit worked flawlessly. At one point in time I kept thinking it was malfunctioning as it kept telling me to make a legal u-turn and go a different direction. As it was I was really going the wrong direction and should have been listening to it. We learned at that point of time to follow it's directions first. Great product and easy to use, very intuitive, great mounting bracket. Like everyone else said though, the zoom buttons on the top corners are not in the right place, but you just learn to live around that minor inconvenience. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 good value Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Dallas TX
Good value, sometimes a little slow to acquire.
Don't really like the exterior buttons. They are too easy to accidentally bump.
Accurate maps good AI. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Accurate and up to date Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from San Francisco, CA
Refurbished unit, but how would you know? Came with car and wall chargers and computer cable. I have some experience using similar products in rental cars, so I found it easy to use. I went to the Magellan website and updated the operating system and data base for free. I have used it to find some very remote addresses with ease. I'm impressed with the detailed local on-screen representation. The points of interest are useful. The restaurants tend to be fast food chains. I highly recommend this unit. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 great gps Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from west palm beach
the best purchase I ever made. Used it in Puerto Rice. I would have been lost without it. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 recommended Wednesday, November 28, 2007 DSR from Andover MA USA
Pros: buy.com price discount
easy usage
Very good in down town , small streets also.
cons: the logic to get most of the highway..
it has 'use most highways ''option, this is different from use ''most of the highway ''.
It took me to all possible highway routes before we reach destination. so it is using max number of available highways.
it should be using highway maximum distance ( per the given travel) This is what any traveller wants when he say max use of highways. but I am afraid it is doing the other way. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Bargain! Wednesday, November 28, 2007 chrisv from Kilgore, TX
This was an excellent buy! The very first day my wife was led to a business that didn't have the address on the building. Not only is it easy to use, it provides information when we need it. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 a good buy indeed Wednesday, November 28, 2007 ravan from btr, la
Have used the Roadmate 3000T for the first time this week and it worked very well indeed. It updated routes when i missed or changed routes within a few seconds.. very smart buy.. the buttons may be a bit clumsy, but the performance was most impressive indeed. my bro has a garmin nuvi 650 and aside from the presence of buttons on the outside for the rooadmate, its performance was quite comparable to to the nuvi.. I will write a more detailed review later Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good with some drawbacks Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Huntington, IN
I got this for my brother who just moved to Atlanta and needed some help getting around. It worked out great for them, very little problems. There are some drawbacks though, the buttons on the side are very sensitive - easy to accidentally push - processor is fairly slow compared to some Tom Toms I've used, slower satellite pick-up and it's fairly big compared to others
In the end, for the money it's a good buy. Been very reliable driving in the craziness of Atlanta. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Love it Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Matthew from Villa Hills, KY
We have found this product very easy to use, and visually appealing. It's a very versatile GPS, and a great deal for the money. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Excellent buy for the price Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Craig from Austin, TX
Easy to use, large screen with a bright background. Took the unit out of the shipping box, plugged it in and began using without complicated instructions. Only drawback is the vintage of the maps contained in the unit. While the Magellan help desk has indicated that an updated version of the maps will become available, they do not say when they will be available. All-in-all - a good buy for the money. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Good unit but look too bulky Wednesday, November 28, 2007 suh from Blue Bell, PA
I have used MIO, GARMIN nuvi, and Magellan.
Overall use of it, I recommend Magellan brand (not this one).
This unit is too BULKY (too big and ugly) and screen resolution is not as good as other units. It is very easy to use, compared to MIO, and great feature when entering address, asks option of choosing Shortest Distance or Fastest Time during the entering address where as Garmin, the option is hidden at set up option. If you forget to set it right, it could give you longest distance or slowest time. Not many POI on the unit. Price was reasonable but compared discound offered at many online stores with Magellan 2200, it is not worth the price for the refurbished unit. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 GREAT GPS Sunday, November 11, 2007 Robert from San Francisco, CA
I love the 3000T without the Text-to-Speech feature because I don't care what streets I am turning to, as long as it guides me to my destination. If it keeps telling me what street is next, I will be overwhelmed with street names in my head. The hardware buttons around the case are better than the Touch-screen only soft buttons that are only useful if the GPS is running. One minor complaint is the speed of the GPS following the speed of the car. Faster car can beat the speed of 3000T by passing intersection before the GPS recognises it. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good deal Friday, November 09, 2007 A Customer from San Diego, CA
It was a good deal and I had no trouble using it. It is slow sometimes to locate the position. It is ok overall Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great unit for the price! Thursday, October 18, 2007 John from Boston, MA
I live in downtown Boston and can honestly say I would be lost without this! It has tons of pre-loaded points of intrest that can be searched by exact name or category. The screen is crisp and bright even on very sunny days. It also will automatically change to a "night" color mode when it gets dark. As in any downtown area, many of the streets are confusing and poorly marked. However, if you make a wrong turn, the RoadMate instantly recalculates your route and detours you back on route. The only reason I gave a 4 is because at times it can become confused. When streets are very close to one another, (i.e. a service drive next to an expressway) it can have problems pinpointing your exact location. Also, it sometimes struggles to aquire a strong GPS signal if there are tall buildings around you, even if you have a clear view of the sky. But overall, this is a very small problem that I have experienced in vehicles with factory installed GPS systems. Overall, this is a great unit and the price is unbeatable! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great unit, great price Tuesday, October 16, 2007 Dan from Gladstone, MO
I have a Magellan 300, and this unit, the 3000T is quite an improvement. All the maps are included into the unit, and with the built-in battery, it can be brought out of the car and used without a power hookup. We went to a wedding this weekend in a city more than an hour away, and I pulled this out of the car after the wedding and our group made a decision about where to take the kids for the dead time between the wedding and reception. It stays in a warm sleep mode whenever the car is shut off, and this allows it to find its position quickly upon full power up. Mount works well. On the down side, the processor running the thing seems to be a bit underpowered for what it is being asked to do, responses to key presses can be very slow. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Excellant gps Saturday, October 06, 2007 A Customer from Tonawanda, NY
I have had this GPS now for 2 weeks. Took my first long trip with it a few days ago. I went from Buffalo NY area to Algonquin Park up in Canada a 5-hour trip. I also had my laptop which I have Delormes Streets Atlas 2008 with GPS attenna connected to that. I wanted to see how well it did against the Delorme GPS which runs off a laptop. For a $149.99 I paid for this refurbished unit from Buy.com it works perfectly. Never lost signal.and was always correct. What I liked about it especially was when on a highway coming to were there was a 3 way fork, were I could go off to the left, center or right it would tell you which way, were my Delorme just says what the name of which of the forks to go the 3000T say veer to the right or left or center. The 3D view works great on the highway, you can tell when coming up to an exit if you get off there for gas/food if there is a on ramp to get back on before you commit to exiting. I drive mostly alone so can’t start doing searches for things. But it has enough detail on the screen to see if gas or food is at an exit. The POI I thought are very good. Does it show everything, no but quite a bit. Near were I live there is a TimHortons that opened about 2 or three years ago and it has that. The volume of the speaker is loud enough if you drive with your windows up like I do. Going 70MPH with the windows down would be to loud to here the GPS but with them up no problem. The maps were better than Delormes in Canada in a few places like exit ramps, were the Delorme has the 3000T beat is unnamed dirt roads in the Park. It doesn’t show any of them, were the Delorme unit shows all of them. Doesn’t have a name because they’re unnamed roads but shows them were the 3000T doesn’t show them. Hardly a complaint for a $150 GPS unit. Before my trip I was also checking the capabilties of the 3000T to see how quickly it could recaculate when I purpose I went off track. Its quite fast no problems there. The warning of an upcoming turns is also excellant. It says a left/right turn in point 5 miles then point 2 miles and then says turn approaching then it has a bell ding goes off just before the turn. Just the right amount of time to easily make the turn. I can’t image needing a better GPS unit. Now at $150 it’s reasonable to get one. 300 to 500 dollars is nuts in my opinion for the newer GPS units out there. By the way the Delorme GPS software plus GPS attenna goes for about $100 but setting up a laptop is a pain plus windows XP has crashed on me a couple of times over there years. Been using Delorme GPS now for 3 years. Delorme has voice commands which is great but you just don’t need it the way Magellan has the 3000T designed. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good buy Saturday, October 06, 2007 PTR from Union, KY
This is my third gps unit, and in comparison it is the best. My first unit was "clunky," the second unit a built-in to my motorcycle is not user friendly. This unit, 3000T, is sophisticated, fairly easy to use, and has a "save location" feature that is quite handy. The price for the unit is without equal, half of what I paid for a gps three years ago. In summary, good unit, good price - good buy Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great value Wednesday, October 03, 2007 Dave C. from North Kingstown, RI
I just received the 3000T a few days ago. A good buy for the $160.00. I am not sure how much more functionality you would get paying hundreds more. Verbal instructions are on the mark and the voice is realistic and pleasant. The unit came with a car and AC charger. I like the fact that it has a battery which you can charge in the car. It gives you the option of using the charger or not. The mount is easy to use and sturdy. I would recommend Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 It is the best money I have ever spent! Friday, September 28, 2007 A Customer from Alsip, IL.
This GPS is great. If your the kind of person that has trouble figuring out how to get back from somewhere your not familiar with, then this is the one for you.It lets you store places you have visited, so the next time you go or try to get back it does the deed. It can find an intersection so in case your location is not stored, it will get you pretty close. You do have to get used to the voice commands, but once you get the hang of voice responses, its a breeze. It even gives you a ding when you made the right turn, so your reassured you still on target.I purchased the refurb and it came with both a car adapter and a 110v. You get free updates from their website, so your done spending money. The hanging system is a little large but secure. I put mine on the left side of my window so it does not block my view. You wont regret this GPS. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Buy- Saved My Butt Tuesday, September 25, 2007 capn4x4 from Seaford, NY
Received the unit promptly & began putting it to immediate use locally to learn how to use it. Print the directions and read them, It has capabilities that are not obvious. The operation sometimes fights you when trying to abort & start again. The reconditioned unit was in perfect condition with all accessories. The maps are a little old and can't be updated by the user. Only POIs can be added. It is difficult to see in direct sunlight especially with the windshield mount on a car with a long dashboard. I took it to Tucson where it saved me from construction detours every day. Even when I made mistakes it re-calculated on the fly and always got me to my destination. Keep in mind you may prefer a different route for other reasons. With 20 channel reception & SirfIII receiver it's ahead of other entry level units. You'll have spend almost 400 to beat it. 5 of 5 Happy with our Magellan Roadmate 3000T GPS Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Lorettan from Tooele, Utah
My dad and I each purchased a Roadmate 3000T Gps. I bought mine as a gift for my husband and of course I had to try it out to make sure it worked. It did get a little confused when I tried to get it to take me home (probably because I live in a new subdivision). I let it do it's thing but it just kept taking me in circles. However, it did quickly reroute me when I started heading for home myself. It did a great job in SLC and I knew I had made a great choice as well as paid a great price. It looked brand new! My dad already had another brand ordered through a local company and after reading the reviews on this one cancelled his previous order. My dad LOVES and swears by his new GPS. He is forever trying it out. He has recently taken a trip to Albuquerque NM at which he says all but put him in the house of the person he was going to visit and will never go without his new GPS. 4 of 5 Great gps for the car. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Bethel Park, Pa
This has been a wonderful GPS in the cars, however the buttons around the outside of the unit get in the way sometimes and make it almost impossible to carry and use. I guess there are units specifically made for being carried so I really can't knock this one. Never had a problem with it in the cars. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 no more paper Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Greg from Portland Oregon
the magellan 3000 roadmate has been an excellent addition. it has been accurate on every address i have put into it so it does not leave me out in the middle of nowhere. since the purchase of mine i have had a friend buy one and also got one for my father. if your like me and dont want to have to print up maps or use paperwork to figure out where you are going then you need to have one of these. enjoy Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 great gps unit Thursday, September 20, 2007 michael from avon, ohio
refurb is the way to go! perfect condition, perfect performance right out of the refurb box. this is my 4th nav unit... by far the cheapest, but also the best.
it's smart, easy to program and finds weak signals quickly. touchy perimeter buttons, but i do love having those buttons.
i was an early hertz/magellan neverlost user, and was tempted to spring for the $1200 neverlost 10 years ago. whew
magellan is the gold standard, as far as i'm concerned Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Sure beats costly built-in car systems Wednesday, September 19, 2007 Jon from Dallas, TX
Hi! I bought a new Nissan Murano and needed to drive it from Massachusetts to Dallas, TX. I didn't want to pay thousands to upgrade to the model that has the navigation option and then pay even more for the Navigation. I am very pleased with the unit, it even directed me to my cousin's house in Nashville along the way where I stayed one night. Our other car is a BMW 760Li which has the Navigation in it by default. This Magellan is easier to program and has better features and screens than the system in the $120,000 BMW!!
The system came with everything including a home charger which was not specified on the buy.com site, but as other reviewers had noted, it was in the box!!!
The only minor complaint I have is that when I mapped the route using Magellan (from Cape Cod, MA to Dallas, TX) it wanted me to go a route going west through Ohio, then south, but when I put my destination into mapquest to compare routes, mapquest had a better route. No matter which option I chose on the Magellan, it would not come up with the (going south through Virginia on 81 to 40 through Tennessee route). It also wanted me to go right through NYC over the George Washington bridge which is a lot of traffic, the mapquest route directed me around that much better. I was familiar with all of the routes I could go as I have made this trip many times and know the mapquest route is about the best to avoid major city traffic. I think Magellan should come up with an additional option when picking routing options such as "avoid major city congestion routes". Of course, this would make a need for the researchers to study or consult each city to find out what are less traveled routes around the city for through traffic.
Initially, I mounted the windshield mount down near the bottom of the windshield which created 2 issues. It was in the sun all of the time. Therefore, it was difficult to see the screen, and secondly, it overheated and "froze up". I had to take it down and put it on the floor where it was cool for a while to get it back going again. I decided to change the windshield mount the next day so the unit is located just below my rear view mirror. Much better this way as it is now out of the sun so I can see the screen perfectly and it also doesn't heat up as much. Plus, I can also reach the buttons better. I'd also rather have the buttons have words on them instead of symbols, it would be easier to know what they do. If I don't use them all, all of the time I forget what they do or which one to press to change to the screen I need. They probably used symbols instead so the unit is multi-language friendly. I do like that the symbols on the buttons light up, makes them easy to see at night.
Overall, I'm happy. Beyond the BMW's Nav system, this is my first portable and bought it on a whim but I am very happy with it for the price and I love how well it speaks directions to you so you don't have to take your eyes off the road and look at the screen if you don't want to. I like also that I take it with me from car to car. I can even take it with me in a friend's car and use it in the back seat if I feel like it with the battery option which lasts for hours. Fun to do when we are going all together to dinner at a new restaurant in town and need directions. I love the fact that I can change the colors of
the screens for a color that I find soothing. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great deal at closeout price Tuesday, September 18, 2007 A Customer from Austin, TX
I agree with most other reviews that this is a nice item with a good feature set. Can't tell that it's not new. Has all you need with 1 purchase. It has told me I could find a gas station where there was an empty field. And, it routed me to a grocery store 2 miles away when later I found that there was a nicer bigger on 1/2 mile from my start location. I don't think any of these will know all there is, especially with new construction taking place. I really like the heads up as to when my turn is coming in 2 miles, then 1 mile and then 1/2 mile. Gives good info on what lane to be in, and when there are 2 or 3 turns right on top of each other, makes that generally pretty clear too. I would and have recommended this deal to friends. 5 of 5 A fantastic buy Tuesday, September 11, 2007 A Customer from Sykesville, MD
I love my Magellan Roadmate 3000T GPS. I had been looking at numerous gps systems and waiting for the prices to come down. I received an e-mail about a Refurb GPS system and looked at the price and thought why not. It was the best buy I have made in quiet some time. It did not have a scratch on it and it came with so many extras and the price was right. It was easy to setup and operate. I plugged in my vacation destination and it was right on the money turn by turn. I would recommend this system to my friends and have. Was this review helpful?

I can't say enough good things about it. Perfect size, easy to use, easy to set up in car, easy everything. How did I live without it before? I can take it with me on trips and use it in rental cars too! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Best Value So Far Monday, September 10, 2007 rosstech from San Marino, CA
The Magellan RoadMate 3000T was everything I would have expected and more. The "more" was it's ability to play mp3 music without headphones. The fidelity was fair, but nice enough. Also included is a picture album program, with lots of options, where you can store and show your digital pictures. I was delightfully surprised by the custom POI feature which allowed input of latitude and longitude points. The downside would be the annoying lack of a "handhold" on the unit. There are so many buttons on the 3000T that you can't help but press them when the unit is operated without the stand. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great GPS Monday, September 10, 2007 delnac from Alexandria, Virginia
I originally had this GPS in my vehicle and it was stolen while I was on vacation. I loved it so much I had to get the same thing. I bought a refurbished one because I just couldn't pay the hefty price tag again. I still love this model and I wouldn't change it for the world. The only problem I have had with it is sometimes it takes a minute to acquire a signal or to re rout me if i make a wrong turn. Other than that the product is great. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Magellan Roadmate 3000T Refurbished Tuesday, September 04, 2007 Vivek Joglekar from Cupertino CA
Excellent physical condition being refurb'ed and all.
Very quick delivery and prompt customer support at Buy.com
Used the Magellan Roadmate 3000T for a week. Here is a quick update on this unit. 1. Maps are outdated or the navigation logic is cooked, looking for Fry's Electronics in the CA Bay area, it wants to take me to San Diego CA. Common stores and eating places are not included in the database of POIs 2. Too many buttons, clunky non-intuitive user interface. 3. Speaker volume is very low.
Returned to buy.com today and purchased Garmin StreetPilot c550 refurbished at 50% higher cost. You get what you pay .. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 compaired to the Magellan 760 (with the most updat Wednesday, August 29, 2007 A Customer from D.C.
I bought the 3000T 2 months ago. I'm in sales so I needed a GPS that can do a "best route" for multiple locations (like the 760 could). Basically the software is the same except the 760 has 3 different users that can have their own destinations. I used that feature for different areas that I was working in. The routing of a trip seems much slower than the 760. Other than those 2 differences (I am not concerned with the 3000 telling me the street name…that is usually intelligible anyway) it works the same. Of course the 3000T is much smaller and has a battery (which is nice). Those are the only differences that I have found in the two units. I highly recommend both of them.
Buy the way, I bought the 760 about 4 ½ years ago and it has finally crapped out on me from the overuse of taking the unit on-and-off the base unit. The plastic on the back finally wore away enough on the main unit that when ever I went over a bump, it cut off.

5 of 5 well worth the money Friday, August 24, 2007 wp23n from Trenton, NJ
this unit was well worth the money, mine came to 149.99 after rebates shipped as i applied for the CC to save another $30
i personally have only used this unit once because my truck has a NAV system built in.
this portable unit was bought more for when i take my corvette out to find cruise nights and car shows that i have never been to before and for my wife who has a habit of missing turns when she is traveling, in the last 2 weeks she has used it 4 times and it has successfully taken her where she wanted to go each time, she has come back with a smile on her face because she knows in order to get lost now she will really have to work at it.
she also told me about 2 months ago that she was never going to visit some family in CT again because her last trip was a horrendous train wreck that took her over 6 hours due to an accident on rt684 @ rt 84, normally this trip takes less than 3 hours. when i told her that this unit has an auto detour feature she said "she couldn't wait" to try it out on a trip to CT.
that statement nearly floored me. i give this unit 5 stars on all counts.
