4 of 5 Worked well until warranty was done Monday, April 13, 2009
A Customer from Copley, Ohio

I also did not get my rebate back from the Dec. 2008 offer. I have written them 3 times with no response. After a little over 100 days the gps unit is completely blank. It will not start at all. Until today....Love the unit! It works great. Good deal overall. I probably will purchase the unit again, good price and overall good product. Hopefully only a few lemons out of the bunch.

5 of 5 Excellent GPS Saturday, March 28, 2009
A Customer from Glendale, CA
Works well. Haven't bought expensive units since the inexpensive ones work well. Like all GPSes that I've used, most applicable in the last mile if you already know the major routes.

5 of 5 Fantastic! Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Rusty Weller from Waynesboro, VA
Wow! I'm going to sound like a company sales rep, but my wife and I couldn't be more pleased with our recoditioned Magellan. It works great, and since powering up we can't stop wondering how we ever got along without one. We're from the Southwest where streets are on a grid and it's easy to get around. So navigating is somewhat confusing to us here in the Shenandoah Valley and Blueridge Mountains. In other words, we tend to get lost a lot. Now my wife has confidence she can get anywhere without needing a rescue party. We're even eager to tackle major cities. OK, so the brand is down the pecking order as far as name recognition, but this unit doesn't suffer. Although not Hawaiian, we love POI (points of interest), and I've been busy dipping up all my fingers can hold. :) Magellan comes with a POI editor that makes it fairly easy to convert all the free lists you can Google -- like our bank's ATM locations and our favorite fast food joints. We like its feature as an MP3 player, and I've loaded lots of tunes to provide music for those gaps between decent radio stations. And its photo album offers a bigger screen than our cell phone for showing people our grandkids. We absolutley love it!

4 of 5 Comparison of Magellan and Garmin Friday, February 27, 2009
A Customer from Suffolk, NY
I bought this GPS and a Garmin 265wt. 265wt is much more expensive because it has some fancy features. However, for basic functions of a GPS: 1. 2200t is (much???) faster than 265wt to locate satellites. 2. 265wt seems quicker to recalculte route. 3. Using "shortest time" to navigate, 265wt tends to use more free ways than 2200t. Personally, I prefer freeways. 4. Garmin has 6 million POIs, while 2200t has only 1.3 m. 5. I haven't experienced big problems in routing. Both GPSs guided me to where I wanted to go. 6. 265wt pronounce street names in a more pleasant and clearer voice than 2200t. 7. 2200t chimes at every turn, this is a good feature. 8. The map on 2200t is old, and Garmin let you to download the most recent map once.

5 of 5 good and low cost Wednesday, February 18, 2009
A Customer from Portland, Oregon
This is my second GPS. With a rebate, this $60 GPS is too good to be true! Solid built, easy to use and the battery really lasts. I only care about the Map/Navigation features. Yes, map is quite out of date!

4 of 5 Great Cheap GPS for Motorcyclists Wednesday, February 04, 2009
zuhl from Houston, TX
I got this unit for my bike and so far it is great. I paid the upgrade fee to get the 2008 maps. Keep in mind that these maps still have early 2008 data, not the latest and greatest. However, they are much better. The one thing that dissapointed me is that even though this thing plays MP3s well, it will not continue to play them when you go back to navigation. That would make this unit even better then because you could listen to your music and hear turn by turn directions while on your bike.

3 of 5 Maps out of date and slim chance of update Thursday, January 29, 2009
A Customer from Tuscaloosa, AL
Overall, I like this GPS. But with GPS's, the company makes a huge difference. The maps are way out of date (5 years) and there is virtually no chance they will be providing a map update. If there is, you will pay dearly for it. Nice enough GPS from the wrong company. I do not recommend it.

5 of 5 Great starter GPS Thursday, January 29, 2009
Ric from East Providence
I bought a refurb unit, which worked out well. I updated the firmware to the Crossover software (google it) to update the UI. Routing workes well and the unit feels "solid". Does not have a ton of bells and whistles, but I have enough distractions behind the wheel as it is. My only complaint is that I never received my rebate and the company no longer answers my email or phone inquiries. Don't purchase on the post-rebate price because chances are you will never receive it.

5 of 5 Good buy Saturday, January 17, 2009
David from Kalamazoo, Michigan
This is a great GPS system for the price. This is my first GPS and I am very happy with it. You do need to update the software when you get it you should seriously considering opening up the crossover conversion (which I have not done yet but will). The only thing that kinda bites is the price to do a map update(which I have not done either), but I have used my system a lot and only had a couple of cliches so far but it was only off by less then a mile because there was a separation between the roads and the system couldn't find the half I needed. This a good buy.

4 of 5 big map issue but right price overall, rebate migh Tuesday, January 13, 2009
Prized for the occasional user from nj
Used as supplementary gps system in NJ. Old maps means not recommended/or reliable for long trips. NJ so congested so going the long way is sometimes costly. Better for zoning in when you come close to ur destination. Also having rebate issues, over 2 mths and yet no rebate. Having said all that, will still buy it at $90 knowing what I know now about map and rebate.

3 of 5 functional but out of date Sunday, January 04, 2009
A Customer from Sherwood, Oregon
When ordering this product I did not realize it was an older model and free map updates were not an option - our house was built in 1996 but doesn't register on the maps. Through the Magellan website I can order an upgrade that would include updated maps, but that would cost another $79. I feel like the product was misrepresented, the pictures show the upgraded software. The older software is fine, but not as nice.

4 of 5 All right for the price Tuesday, December 16, 2008
GregT from Fort Collins, CO
Not a bad device. Not as ellaborate and full of features as Garmin, also not as many free computer apps for it available as for the Gramin. The functionality not bad and relatively intuitive, some small annoyances like autozooming when I don't want it to and not when I want it to, but overall works well and gets you where you need to be. Free firmware upgrades and as far as I can tell maps (not free) are available at the Magellan site. Uplink is good, external antenna can be used (not included). OIverall, for the price certainly a bargain. For $200 or more I'd look at Garmin.

5 of 5 Can't beat it for the price Saturday, December 06, 2008
A Customer from Wilmington, NC
I wanted a GPS for my job and occassional travel since I moved to NC, a new state for me. Works just fine, is easy to use and has a larger screen then many of the other units out there. It is a little out of date, but gets you to the address, I find new features at least once a week. I will probably buy the upgrade CD which will give it cross-country and over water capabilities which may be useful - and will bring it up to date. For the price you can't beat it, I have used it for a little over a month now and haven't had any problems. Also available is a traffic attachment, if I still lived in NY I would get that too - but don't really need it in Carolina.

5 of 5 Easy GPS to Use and Mount Monday, December 01, 2008
Gerry from San Jose, CA
The Magellan RoadMate 2200T is an excellent product. It is easy to use and install, and the price is very good. I recommend buying the Akron GPS047 Removable Air Vent Pedestal as a replacement for the suction cup dashboard/windshield mouunt that comes with the unit. It is less bulky and easy to transfer to another vehicle. I bought a second one for a friend.

5 of 5 Perfect For Us Saturday, November 29, 2008
M from Marietta, GA
We take long road trips, but don't really need around town navigation. This product is a perfect fit for us, as we only have simple needs. It provides excellent guidance, so that the other driver can actually sleep, rather than be on navigator duties. The exit POI feature is great, allowing us to plan our stops so we can eat at a favorite restaurant, or use a particular gas station. I will probably be purchasing the upgraded map pack from Magellan so we can use it for hiking/backpacking, and so that we get the updated POI database. On a recent trip, a few exits had no gas stations according to the GPS, but gas stations had been built since the database had been made - that's the only reason performance is a 4.

4 of 5 Lacking some but you can't beat the price Wednesday, November 26, 2008
James from Jacksonville, FL
Before I bought this unit I checked CNET to see if it was a quality product. At the time, when it first came out, it was rated very high. It now suffers from lack of updated maps and your ability to get them this is a big problem if you live in an area that has new roads. I have used it around town in the older areas with little problems and since I only really need it for out of state travel to areas that are well established, I should have no problems. If there is one thing it's the map updates. If you google the subject you will find several well known sites saying they have them but they charge more than the cost of the unit and THEY are outdated (2007 I believe). This is made even more laughable because Magellan's own website doesn't sell the updates anymore, the unit and the updates are discontinued. If you are like me and have been using an old, very outdated map, you have stuck in the glovebox to get to your destination this should be a welcome upgrade.

5 of 5 Great GPS Wednesday, November 26, 2008
SST from Trabuco Canyon, CA
I'm with the majority of reviewers: it's a great buy. Those (a few) who complained need to have taken action such as update the firmware (free download from Magellan), or get someone knowledgeable to help out; do not expect a 2006 product to have the latest map or POI - a $80 2008 map & POI update is available. I'm prepared to get the update because I only paid $70 for the refurbished unit that came is excellent condition. Only thing negative was, I set out to order the Magellan Maestro 3225 (like the one I bought at COSTCO for my son for $150), but the order came up with the RoadMate 2200T (an electronic bait-and-switch ?). Buy.com offered that I could refuse the delivery or try it and return it if I didn't like it. I like it a lot and the "old" maps are just fine for now. Just sent in for my $20 rebate. The menu and operation is almost identical to the Maestro 3225. Besides, it can also do photos, music. This was a $400 product when new. The map update is supposed to include an "off-road" map system as well - it will be useful for our outdoor walks, bird-watching trips. I am very happy with my decision to keep it. I'll give it a real test this Christmas while visiting Texas & New Mexico - to decide whether I need to get the $80 map update. Don't complain if you don't know what you are doing or expecting.

5 of 5 I love this thing! Wednesday, November 26, 2008
Lori from Houston, TX
I always said I didn't mind getting lost, so I didn't need a GPS. :) But I have a little job that requires me to go to different addresses, and getting lost wasn't fitting in. I saw this GPS on Buy.com--the first thing that caught me, a tightwad, was the price. I bought it. When it came in, my husband bawked at it and said I should have gotten a "nice" one (which, to him, is gauged by a high price.) But I could tell he was impressed with it this past weekend when we took it on our trip to West Texas even although his pride wouldn't let him praise it. It does everything I need--the screen (the part that represents the land) changes from white in the day, to grey at dusk, to black at night. (there are some color-changing options). It doesn't show churches on it, which we could've used. I guess it also is a few years old (model-wise), so brand new streets aren't in the software it comes with, and I couldn't find any updates online. But it's a very minor problem. Oh, it even plays music from an MP3 player AND pictures from an SD card! It's great! I HIGHLY recommend.

2 of 5 maps too old and incomplete...updates too expensiv Sunday, November 02, 2008
A Customer from Effingham IL
Works fine but the maps are very old...not sure how old but not showing streets in my neighborhood that have been there for over 3 years. Of the 2 addresses I tried to enter it wouldn't let me enter the correct house number...both addresses over 30 years old. Map & software update seem to address these problems but another $79.00? ......I don't think so. Overall TomTom One is a much better value.

4 of 5 great value for the money Saturday, May 31, 2008
Sim from omaha, NE
i bought this GPS for around $99 at buy.com. just after few days of buying i went to minneapolis and fargo. it helped me tremendously and without any fault, even i helped my local hosts in those places in finding some tricky routes. once it started not to see any satellite signal (at fargo) but when I did a hard reset everything was ok again. seems to be a pretty good set for budget conscious people.

5 of 5 Great Intermediate GPS for low price Tuesday, May 27, 2008
RogerX from Cleveland, OH
Pros: This GPS has test-to-Speech for street names at the lowest cost around, which is why I bought it. I can't review it as it comes out of the box, since I bought the map and POI pack/crossover upgrade (for geochaching)/firmware upgrade package from magellangps.com . Good battery life, comes with ALL accessories (mounts, chargers) out of the box. Covers the lower 48 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Hawaii. Cons: Interface isn't as fast as other models, bigger size than the new, sleek Nuvi models from Garmin, map and POI upgrades require use of SD slot, since the onboard memory is too small (the 2GB SD card from Magellan has 1.4GB of data on it). Minor things considering the price; if you want all the cool stuff, you're going to be paying $350 and up. Other Thoughts: The 2.36 firmware and interface upgrade, downloadable online for free, is a MUST HAVE. It much improves the layout, appplication options, color scheme, etc. The map and Points of Interest data upgrade is highly recommended, it updates to maps from late 2007 (You get an upgrade CD and a 2GB SD card from Magellan for $79). Also included if you buy the map pack is a code, keyed to your serial number, to enable the "Crossover GPS" functionality for Marine use and geocaching. This works great for me, but I am a novice-- more experienced people have complained that it isn't detailed enough.

3 of 5 so-so at best Tuesday, May 27, 2008
Mark from wilmington, NC
The price was right. That's the only thing that saved it. The navigation is sketchy, tells me to turn left when it shows right. According to this unit, my block does not exist and the address I live at is invalid. (downtown, built in 1920..). Difficult to use. My Garmin that was stolen was a far cry better.

1 of 5 CRASHED and went bad after 1 month of use :( Monday, March 10, 2008
Ravi Khanna from Bellevue, WA
Don't buy this product. I would say, stay away from refurbished electronic products unless they come with 1 year Manufacturer warranty. This product worked decently for one month and then when I was trying some option from the menus, it crashed and one rebooting it went into DEMO mode and never came out of it. I checked buy.com for returning that order and it states only a 14-day return period for this product. REMEMBER, THIS PRODUCT IS CHEAP FOR A REASON.

4 of 5 Great Value. Tuesday, February 26, 2008
A Customer from LeRoy, NY
I bought the 2200T for use on my motorcycle because it is water resistant. I have used it for "practice" in the car on a few trips and it works flawlessly. I can't get over what a great deal this is. Go to Magellan and do the free update when you get it. The battery lasts for at least 8 hours. I have been using it in the car on battery and have gone about 6 hours on full brightness setting and still had plenty of battery left. Charges in an hour or so.

5 of 5 Out-dated maps and points of interest Monday, February 25, 2008

5 of 5 Great value for money -- and upgradeable Thursday, February 21, 2008
Bill H from Columbus, Ohio
Have had this unit for several months, and it works well. Some early reviews complained about slow recalculations, but in my experience the recalcs are very quick. And no, I haven't seen a map upgrade, but the maps on my unit are about a year old and pretty much up-to-date. (Someone suggested free map updates -- I don't think any GPS vendor offers free updates.) The firmware should be upgraded to version 1.72 -- relax, the upgrade is free, downloadable from the Magellan Web site, and is painless to install. Better yet, you can download the 2.14 upgrade and, for $50, unlock the features that turn this unit into the Crossover model, which provides off-road capabilities. The offroad functions are basic, but should be fine for casual use. If the cost of this GPS were a few hundred dollars, I would recommend comparison shopping. But for the refurb price, it's a great value as a road navigation unit, and the cheap upgrade makes it a steal for those who want to add some basic offroad capabilities.

2 of 5 No updated maps Saturday, February 16, 2008
nicholas from st louis, mo
The GPS works well. It can track the satellites well. The user interface is easily understandable. However, the maps are very old (4 years) Magellan website does NOT offer any updates for the maps. The GPS has text-to-speech option. However, if the street you are searching is NOT in the database, you cant use this GPS unit to go to this place. Yesterday I could not find an address. I had to google that address and then check for the street intersection in the GPS and the GPS had that intersection. I think, this is a bug in the program. This unit had everything i wanted - mp3, photo, text to speech, cheap price, long battery, etc. But if the maps are not good, how good is a GPS. I would NOT recommend this to anyone until Magellan gives a free maps update.

4 of 5 Decent Entry Level GPS Monday, February 11, 2008
Ron from Cincinnati, OH
The unit works fine and as advertised. At times the satellite seek seems to have a software issue and I called customer support several times but decided in the end it's a product quirk and not a malfunction. Note, it comes with a picture viewer and music capability but you have to use the Magellan software to load content and I found their software to be painfully slow and not reliable so I do not even use those two functions. The size and portability are great. The POI is reasonable. For the money, it performs well as an entry level, small screen GPS. The only other comparison I have is an auto manufacturer OEM unit which is not a fair comparison. In the end, if you want an entry level GPS with a semi-intuitive GUI, this unit is sufficient. There are plenty of units out there that do more and offer more but at least double the cost.

GOOD: GPS, MP3 and image review in one unit; Text-to-speak, I do no look at the map often while driving, just listen; Fair battery life ; User input POIs; Quick warm stat; Most important, LOWER PRICE at BUY.COM.____ BAD: Slower cold start; System software needs update (free from Magellan website); Cosmetic issue on some refurbished units; Map data needs update too for at least Irvine area in CA. ____Conclusion: For driving, I like to use it among my 4 GPSs.

4 of 5 Great item at a great price! Wednesday, January 23, 2008
A Customer from Charlotte, NC
I don't know if I'd pay full price for this unit but at the buy.com refurbished price, you can't go wrong. I got our first 2200T here and both wife.com and I really liked it. When our truck was broken into and the GPS stolen, I quickly looked around for another. Unfortunately, buy.com wasn't offering them at that price and I bought one on eBay. Lo and behold and couple days later, buy.com listed the refurbs again at a great price. I bought another one for me and since it is waterproof, I'll be able to use it both in the car and on the motorcycles. I'm not crazy about the POI feature and lack of map updates is disappointing but the current maps aren't bad anyway. They were accurate up in Canada too, once the region was changed. I am going to try out the additional mapping software that Magellan offers with my unit.

A Customer from New Haven, CT
I ordered the refurbished 2200T, but lit's routes display was off(was not projected on the actual road), Buy.com replaced it with no issue. New one is working just fine and I am happy....

5 of 5 Just what she wanted (needed???). Thursday, January 10, 2008
charles_a_miller from Vicksburg, MS
Let's be honest. My wife seldomly makes it out of the house. Why? Well that's another story. Nevertheless, she told me that for Christmas, she wanted a GPS for her car so she would "feel more comfortable when she travels" (like she ever really does). So I asked around and a cohort in my office told me of how great the 2200t was. So I kept looking until, WHALA!, I found this refurbished system at Buy.com. I ordered it, they sent it, I received, with absolutely no hassle. What a treat! I read the instructions, hooked it up, turned it on, and WHALA! it worked! It does a relatively good job at everything it says it will do and the ole ball & chain is happy. What else can I ask for???! The only setback is that I set "Home" as my address but it tells me I'm there when I'm actually about a quarter mile up the street. Does that bother me? No. Does it bother my wife? No. So Am I happy? You bet!

5 of 5 Excellent basic GPS system. Tuesday, January 08, 2008
A Customer from Coventry, RI
I have used this unit for a few months now. It does a great job, especially for such a low price. There are a few downsides but they aren't a deal breaker for me. 1. It doesn't have as many "Points Of Interests" as some other more expensive units. This isn't a big problem for me but for some it may be. 2. You need to power up the unit before you start driving. A few people complained in their review that the unit takes a long time to lock onto the satellite's signal. If you turn the unit on before you start driving it locks on within about 10-20 seconds. This is not a problem rather a requirement for most gps units. 3. It doesn't have any different voice options. This isn't a big deal but some people like to be able to change the voice. 4. You can't adjust the screen brightness. At night it can be set to change to night mode but I feel it is still too bright. This isn't a problem when you are in a bright area but when you are in pitch black woods it is a bit too bright. I haven't had any problems with rerouting. It reroutes immediately for me. Maybe the people who are having long delays have a defective unit. Besides that it gets the job done. It is impossible to beat for the money. I just ordered a second one today! Try to find a better unit for a hundred and fifty bucks!

3 of 5 Out of date maps Tuesday, January 08, 2008
Paul from Tuscaloosa, AL
The maps are bad out of date. They are at least 5 years out of date for the POI in my area and it has me living in a field. The road I live on has been here for 3+ years. On the positive side, it is very easy to use. Watch out for the Crossover upgrade. It changes everything and the interface is not quit as intuitive.

5 of 5 Unbelievably nice, for the price! Tuesday, January 08, 2008
Kevin from Greensboro, NC
I was totally skeptical about buying this unit, but it met all of my needs! I use it on my motorcycle with a RAM mount and it's perfect! Waterproof, and 8 hrs of battery life. NO NEED to run power to it. Upgrading (free) to the 2.14 CrossOver software version gives it an even BETTER 3D view and features. The upgrade gives it the ability to function as a Marine and Outdoor (hiking) GPS!! True, it cost $50 to activate that feature but what this device offers for the price is AMAZING! And when it comes down to it, regardless of features is "How does it function as a basic Road Navigator?" You won't be disappointed! It has the same NavTeq maps and SirfStarIII chipset as the much more expensive Garmin units. What Magellan has learned in it's NeverLost development is all found in this unit's ability to layout intelligent routing decisions. In retrospect, this purchase was a NO BRAINER!

4 of 5 pretty good Monday, January 07, 2008
A Customer from Apex, NC
Bought this for the upgradable feature of going to a crossover. Haven't had a chance to take it on the boat yet, but in the car, it's doing great so far! My only complaint is that it wants to argue about some of the addresses I try to put in, so far, 2 family members and a few friends don't have existing addreses. Other than that, and the cost of software, which is horrible regardless, I think it's fantastic!

4 of 5 Nice unit for the money. Monday, January 07, 2008
Michael from Lexington, KY
I travel and am on the road 90% of the time. I have used GPS with a personal computer and in Hertz rental cars previously. I found this unit to work well and very similarly to the NeverLost systems available when renting from Hertz. Not surprising as Magellan makes the NeverLost systems. Adequate POI files for finding restaurants and gas stations. Not very useful for identifying shopping centers and stores. I like the pc feature for long trips to be able to route using a "via" point. With the Magellan 2200, you do not have that ability. You can exclude areas, but I found it difficult to route using specific areas. This is a problem when traveling around arease like NYC when you know the general way you want to go to avoid bad traffic areas. It was difficult to get this to not route me using a road I know to be heavily traveled and more often than not backed up and slow. I ended up creating a trip and having to reset my destination a couple of times while driving to my destination. Overall, I am very pleased with the results for the money spent. Good battery life and easy to use.

4 of 5 Very satisfied with this product Monday, December 31, 2007
Mike from Bloomfield Hills, MI
Bought this as a refurbished item and it has worked flawlessly. I have used the navigation function (of course) as well as the mp3 player function. The mp3 player is useful for listening to books on tape during long stretches of freeway driving or while flying to a destination when GPS navigation is not required. This unit also performs well when used for walking around (rather than driving) in an unfamiliar city. The only complaint I have is that new roads are not in the database and, therefore, some destinations cannot be located.
