4 of 5 Excellent Wednesday, May 20, 2009 A Customer from Montrose, PA
Text to speech is loud and clear with ample notice of upcoming turns. The display is clear and accurate, but hardly anything you want to look at while driving.
Cons:The battery may not hold its charge as long as you might like. Mac users won't be able to do downloads, so find a PC. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Nice!! Sunday, May 10, 2009 A Customer from Massapequa, NY
Don't let people talk to you about refurb. This product was like brand new!! It even gives you the street names to turn on. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice GPS but confusion with maps Saturday, May 09, 2009 A Customer from Minneapolis, MN
The GPS was delivered promptly with the CD and mounting bracket. I couldn't enter my home address because the device would not accept my house number. I called Megellan and got a nice rep but his suggestions didn't solve my problem. I called a second time and the new rep pointed out that my street is listed as "X Avenue S." and as "S. X Avenue." I had to scroll down to see this. My house number could be entered under one street name but not the other, even thought both street names are the same except for order. Otherwise I'm satisfied. 4 of 5 Great unit for the price Wednesday, May 06, 2009 Mike from Wappingers Falls, NY
Great unit for the price! Plug it in and you're ready to go.
Only wish it had a better interface with the computer. Downloading updates are extremely easy. But creating personal POI is extremely awkward. You can only create them if you know the longitude and attitudes numbers.

5 of 5 Good buy for the price Monday, May 04, 2009 Ajay from Nashville, TN
Easy to use - navigate, Catches signal fast, Simple interface
Wide screen helps quick visual, Voice/Volume is great - Could hear even with music [mod vol], Sometimes freezes but guess thats due to initial usage of quick navigation.
Overall good bang for the buck. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice product Monday, May 04, 2009 Sriram from Germantown, WI
Very nice product. I used it to go to indiana from wisconsin. This GPS is good if you want a cheap, affordable one. Still need to use your common sense, because sometimes it says the destination/exit on left/right and it shows up on the opposite side! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very satisified Tuesday, April 14, 2009 James from Ada, OK
I had a Nextar and it finally quit. I bought this Magellen and like it so much I purchased another for my wife. I got her a Navagon and she talks bad about it all the time so to make her happy I got her a Magellan. I also got my son a 3.5" version and he likes it too. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great for newbies Sunday, April 12, 2009 Barry from Saginaw, TX
This gps does a wonderful job, and is very user friendly. If you arent looking for bluetooth technology, or fm transmission, or other features. This unit will please you. The only drawback is I wasnt able to find navigation updates for it. So if you are looking for new streets or sructures you wont find them on the unit. Was this review helpful?

I love this GPS! It is very easy to use and user friendly. The voice is clear and easy to understand. I also like that it lets you know when you are getting close to your turn so you aren't confused. I highly recommended! Was this review helpful?

Unit arrived in excellent condition & works very well. Buyers should be aware that refurbished GPS's do not include the free map updates which are included with new units. The maps in my unit are a 2007 version, which is fine with me. I doubt many new roads have been built since 2007. Bottom line: A very good GPS for half the price of a comparable new unit. 5 of 5 Very User Friendly, Nice Product Monday, March 23, 2009 Daniel from Raleigh, NC
I would highly recommend. Doesn't come with a AC Adapter but does come with a car (DC) charger and the mount/hardware. Great value! I just ordered an AC charger online for about $15 so I can charge it at home too. Was this review helpful?

The first day I had it, I needed to go someplace I'd never been to before. This was the perfect time to try out the ease of operation and accuracy of the Magellan. Well I arrived without a problem and no need to go to Google maps or use a folded map!! What more can you ask for? I like the voice and the fact that the street names are clearly pronounced. The big screen is easy to see, operation is very straight-forward. The unit looks brand new and even has the protective plastic on the LCD. This is a great value and not a compromise in quality. Another great purchase from Buy.com. thanks Was this review helpful?

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Excellant GPS Wednesday, March 18, 2009 Jerry from Calhan, CO
I already have a Garman and I can honestly say, I enjoy the Magellan much more. There does seem to be a problem with the battery keeping its charge. I am having my car checked out to see if that is the problem. The directions have been perfect and time at arrival is right on. The big difference between the Garman and the Magellan is that more land features, such as lakes and parks are on the Garman, but other than that the Magellan is a much better product and offers more at much less cost. I especially like that you get a snapshot of where you are such as altitude, latitude and longitude and closest streets. The large screen makes it very easy to see the directions. It is a very good GPS Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good product Wednesday, March 18, 2009 A Customer from Lansing, MI
The large screen size, clear picture and ease of use is very nice on this unit. I bought the refurbished unit and the suction cup doesn't hold as well as I would like. The unit also will freeze up and have to be reset if it sits too long without using. I would suggest turning it off between uses to prevent this. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good Buy Tuesday, March 17, 2009 A Customer from Riverwoods, IL
The Magellan Roadmate works fine. It took me a little while to understand the instructions which are not self Intuitive, but once I got beyond that point it has been fine. I also needed to get an AC Charger so I could work on it in the house - the battery doesn't last long enough to do much fooling around learning. Was this review helpful?

This is my 4th GPS and I can tell you it does everything it is advertised to do and at a great price. I once read about Buy.com in Consumers Reports and have been shopping here ever since with great satisfaction. This particular item arrived neatly packaged and you would never know it was reconditioned if the box was not clearly marked as so. I have 2 old Garmins (330c) and I much prefer this Magellan. 1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Nice screen. Great for the price. Monday, February 23, 2009 Preyash from Jersey City, NJ
I bought a refurbished one for $99 after MIR.
Pros:
Pretty fast satellite connection and re-routing. Sound is clear and the screen is bright and crisp and adjusts automatically to day and night modes. Using it for about 15 days now and never been taken on a wrong route. Its absolutely worth it for the price.
Cons:
The POI database search is slow and the screen just hangs there without any response as long as the search is not complete. You cannot cancel the search. So you should not do a POI search unless you got time on your hand. You could however quickly see Exit POI's, since that does not involve searching the db. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Compaired to other GPS units Sunday, February 15, 2009 Bill R from Yorktown VA
This GPS unit is made by ont of the pioneers of navigation units. The Satilite receiver in the unit is excelent compaired
with some other units. The software is good and can be used with the home computer. The screen display is also excelent viewing day or night. This is a good buy. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice product, seems to have some flaws Sunday, February 15, 2009 A Customer from Highland Park, NJ
This is the first GPS I have owned, purchased it based on the reviews. It is very easy to operate, very fast to enter in addresses, and enter other functions. It does have some performance issues which I am not sure is related to it being refurbished or not. It will sometimes lock up during operation and I have to power it off and back on again.
It also sometimes does not use the best route, for example, instead of continuing straight on a local street in my own town, it will direct me to make a left, a right and then another right to get where I am going. This I understand from reading reviews of other brands is "normal". It will also tell me I arrived at a location, even though I may have passed it. This too, I understand is typical behavior not necessarily related to this brand.
Overall, I like the device, I like the screen size, the intuitive, and easy to use menus. Magellan offer a free OS update which I already used. It does not come with an a/c adapter, but I purchased one on Ebay for $7 which works fine.
I really can't compare it to other units, and I suppose I would try another brand next time around so I can compare. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy to use. Sunday, February 15, 2009 Suzie from San Francisco
My Magellan 1412 refurb was good as new and good to go right out of the box. Bright display is great at night. It's great for night driving because I can read the street signs on my GPS instead of looking for the street signs. Maps are up-to-date. Great buy with $30 rebate! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 GREAT Monday, February 09, 2009 Buddy from Philadelphia Penna.
I am no expert on electronic equipment but with this unit you don't have to be just plug it in type where you want to go andthat's it. I wish I bought it before I almost lost my job when I got lost. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good Starter Unit Sunday, January 18, 2009 Jack from Antioch, CA
I was pleasantly surprised with the Magellan RoadMate 1412. Though a refurb, it seems to work well. The text-to-speech feature and the size of the screen are great. It does lack a few of the features, of course, that higher end GPS's have, but for the price, it certainly gets the job done. The one major complaint I have it that the package doesn't come with an AC charger, only a car charger. That was quickly remedied via ebay for under $10, but since the cigarette lighter plugs in my car are only hot with the ignition on, it was difficult putting an initial charge on the unit. Overall, for the price, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Amazing Piece of Electronics.. Sunday, January 18, 2009 Tom Vatt from Brandon, Florida
I bought this re-furbished GPS last month from BUY.COM at an unbelievably low price and I am very satisfied with everything. All contents looked like brand new with all the related accessories with the right precision. Right from the box, it started working without a flaw and I already used it to go different places. It takes only a few seconds to program the routes and it works so beautiful the way it should be. I am very happy and satisfied with this product and the provider, Buy.com. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Well worth the price. Sunday, January 18, 2009 Pat from Los Angeles area, CA
The Magellan Roadmaster 1412 does exactly what it's supposed to do - guide you to a given destination in the most direct (or fastest) route. It's relatively easy to use, visually pleasing (case & screen), and handy. It's so much easier to be able to bring your "portable GPS" (as opposed to an in-dash GPS) into your home or office and program it at your leisure with however many addresses you want.
The first time I used "Maggie" I was told to make an immediate right turn at the end of an offramp. My turn was not immediate enough for her and I turned onto a wrong street. She told me "whenever it is legally permissable to make a u-turn...". I thought that was so much nicer than "hey, dumbass, what part of 'immediate' didn't you understand?" Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Buy This GPS!! Saturday, January 17, 2009 1st Time User from Palatine Illinois
I purchased this Magellan Roadmate - it's my first one and I love it. Even though it says it's refurbished, it looked brand new and had all accessories, instruction book, etc. - just not in original box. I would recommend this unit to anyone - very simple to use. Awesome product! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I love it.. Wednesday, January 07, 2009 Tom from Brandon, Florida
I bought a re-furbished unit and rec'd it last week. Everything was like new and right out of the box, it worked great. Sattelite access time was only a few seconds. All the accessories were apt and worked fine. Very user-friendly 'how to use' directions. I already drove to couple of destinations and it worked great. Nothing more to ask for and.. I love it. Thank you Magellan & buy.com. Was this review helpful?
