I purchased the 4040 august 2007 at a much higher price. I am fairly happy with the way it directs to destinations. However it is frustratingly stubborn if you decide to use a route that you know is much better that the one suggested.Points I like:Clarity of picture & sound; warning & alternate route option shows on screen when traffic is about to slow down; Points I dislike: it does not retain the last address;software upgrading should be easier;maps may be missing newer routes;I have not been able to find out on line when/how maps are updated;I suggest you buy a repair plan for this item. The data was wiped out while I attempted to upgrade the software online and It was repaired within a week. Was this review helpful?

This product is bad compared to its Roadmate series. I had Raodmate 3000T earlier and I liked that better.
Here are some cons and pros for 4040
Pros:1. Text-to-speech
2. 3D view.
Cons:1. Highly inefficient in recalculating routes. Specially if you missed one exit it takes at least 30-45 sec to realise that you are offtrack.
2. Fonts are too small to read in a glance. Roadmate has bigger fonts and easy to read.
3. All the functions are on touch screen. Even if you want to mute it for a while you really have to change 3 screens, where as in Roadmate you find a button to mute.
4. If you want to see the complete route on text after you put on the address it takes ages to see to complete route. You hardly see 3-4 turns and the it hanged. Was this review helpful?

I had been shopping for a GPS with a good feature set at this price point. I am not disappointed in the least. Being refurbished provided a better value ratio without sacrificing a thing. Everything is included: mount, AC and DC chargers, etc. This unit acquires its location and plots routes quickly. It also has a very good user interface. Its Bluetooth does not sync with my model phone, but this is not a problem for me. Their website provides a list of supported phones if it is important to you. I also chose this over the 4050 because I did not care for voice recognition and that feature does not review well. This offered another price point reduction. Good feature set, good interface, good price. Refurb is unrecognizable from new in condition and accessories. Recommended. Was this review helpful?
