4 of 5 okay value for money but freezes once in a while Tuesday, April 14, 2009
A Customer from Chapel Hill NC

I got this product and it worked perfectly for the first 3-4 months. Later it started acting up and freezing, especially when you are on the way and relying on it. If you play with it, it unfreezes again, so it does work- but it is annoying to have to do that as you are driving. The maps are okay, worked great in MN where I bought it but in NC it never matches up with some of the road names - however, NC roads are weird and have more than one names so I doubt if it is the GPS's fault. I do use it often and it has helped me out more than once. It cannot be charged other other than in the car, I wonder if it works on a PC and gets charged but certainly not on my mac. I do feel that for the money it will get you where you are going and back home, which is the option I use it for most often.

    5 of 5 This is a great GPS Friday, January 09, 2009
    Liz from Girard Oh
Bought this for DH for Christmas, and it works excellent. It hasn't missed an address yet. He drives truck, so he goes to different places almost every day, and has not had a problem. If it directs him one way, but he decides to go another, it reroutes him the correct way once he gets going. I wish it came with a house plug-other than that, no problems.

4 of 5 Good product for the Price Wednesday, January 07, 2009
    Prashant from Fort Lauderdale, FL
Paid 80 for it and it is a good product with touch screen. Easily connects to my cell phone using bluetooth and making calls is easy. However no voice activation and takes a long time to fully charge. Can only be charged with a car charger. Maps are missing some points of interests like Costco in Pompano Beach. Overall good product for the price and the fact that it was refurbished.

5 of 5 Very good unit at a great price Sunday, January 04, 2009
    all3 from lakewood ranch fl
We bought this for a 3rd vehicle (thus going "low end" with a refurb unit). We have a Garmin 250W in one and Lowrance XOG in another. The 3140 is better than either of those (Except for wishing it was wide screen). The position location ( boot up) speed is loads better than the XOG and a good bit faster than the Garmin. Calculation time for rerouting is also faster than either of our other 2 units. I would rate it higher than either of our other 2 units if I was paying full price.. and at this price.. Its a deal.

3 of 5 Cannot be charged without car cigarette power Sunday, January 04, 2009
    Sebastien from Woburn, MA
This cannot be charged without car cigarette power. So when you receive it, forget about connecting it using USB to update firmware or transfer music, you will have first to leave it a while in a running car, so the usability is weird. I didn't try it a lot so I assume other usability issue should exist.

5 of 5 This will keep my daughter on track! Saturday, January 03, 2009
    J. Young from Concord, NC
I thought I was finished with Christmas shopping had not planned to purchase a navigation unit, but knew that my direction-challenged 20-year old could use one driving back and forth to and from college. The price and positive reviews on this refurbished Magellan unit persuaded me to get it for her. I am so glad that I did. She loves it and has used it several times already during her holiday break. Refurb rocks!

4 of 5 Good value for the money - Just don't expect the b Monday, December 08, 2008
    A Customer from Roseville, CA
I bought this GPS on Dec 1 based on the Magellan reputation, the price (79.99) and Buy.com good experience. Pro: The unit came very quickly, worked out of the box as expected. Bluetooth phone worked great with my Blackberry Curve. The map included Canada and Puerto Rico just in case you travel there. Last year, when I went to Canada, the GPS stopped showing map in British Columbia Canada. The iphone with map cost too much with roaming in Canada, so we were driving around on paper map. What a nuisance. Con: Map version is #27 (out since 2007). The latest version is 31 (2008). Please note that there's no version 28, 29, 30. 27 is the previous version. 31 is the newest. Buying a reconditioned unit will *not* enable you to have a free map upgrade to 31. It will cost you 79.99 to upgrade to a new map. Overall: I think this is a good value if you need a reliable unit with Text To Speech (that reads out the street name) and you don't need the latest changes within a year. If you expect an up-to-date GPS, buying a new one makes more sense - and it will cost your more. I just don't have the need, nor the desire to spend more than 100 for a brand name GPS. The bottom line is, this is a good unit for the price. Just don't expect a new map with all the bells and whistles like the ones that cost $300 because this costs only 79.99.

    5 of 5 My first gps ... Tuesday, December 02, 2008
    Scott from Missouri
Love the price of refurbs. It LOOKS brand new. I've taken a couple of trips with it and it was "dead on", except when I was close to home and taking the usual shortcuts. It re-routes quickly, when you decide to go a different way than it suggets. It lets. My only complaint is that the volume doesn't go loud enough and if you have a window cracked or the tunes on, you're likely to miss what it's saying ... which brings me to my other gripe, they need to put a "repeat last" button on this, so if you DO miss something, you have the chance to turn the stereo down and "play it again" ... The maps are a little old (3 years?) and an update pack costs ($80) nearly as much as the gps did ... All together, I am very happy with this and it's a very good "first" ...

    5 of 5 Satisfied Customer Saturday, November 22, 2008
    A Customer from Amherst, NY
I received my 3140 yesterday as a replacement for a RoadMate. It's as easy to use as the other model and having used the 3140 all day, I was very happy with the performance. I found it to be quite accurate, although the maps are a bit outdated. For my use, it's everything I expected. (The maps can be updated which I will do in the near future.) The only negative issue I have is the mount. It refuses to adhere to the window with the suction cup and once the unit itself is placed INTO the mount, I can't get it out. I prefer snapping the GPS into the mount holder rather than sliding as the fit is overly tight. I have to consistenly remove the suction cup from the window each time I park my vehicle. That part is very irritating but the GPS unit itself is wonderful. I found the bluetooth to be a great feature. Sound both incoming and outgoing are superb. Would recommend but please do something about the suction cup and sliding feature.

    4 of 5 Good unit Monday, October 27, 2008
    A Customer from Roseburg, OR
Great value for a refurbished unit. Performs as advertised. My only complaint is that the speaker is poorly designed and sounds very cheap and "tinney". Once you get it set up the bluetooth works well but it garbles the sound. I have another Magellan GPS 2200T and the sound reproduction is much better. If you are looking for a navigation aid this is a good buy but if you need high quality sound spend another hundred bucks.

4 of 5 Best for Money Monday, October 27, 2008
    A Customer from Chicago, Il
I bought a refurbished 3140 unit for $99 which is the best price I could find for a TTS unit. It worked fine right out of the box and I used it extensively when I went on vacation to Washington DC, Mt Vernon and Williamsburg. There was a slight delay in satellite acquisition when starting up but that is not a big deal considering the price. The AAA guide was useful as well.

4 of 5 Seems good to me Sunday, October 26, 2008
    A Customer from Chatham, NJ
This is my second GPS from Magellan and while I liked the two year model that I had (until my wife dropped it), this one seems improved in many ways. I think the maps are fine for where I am traveling. They seem up-to-date and I love the text to speech. I bought a reconditioned one and it literally looked brand new and worked as expected. It was such a great value that I bought two more as gifts and two friends also bought one each and are very pleased.

5 of 5 Great Buying Experience Sunday, October 26, 2008
    A Customer from Augusta, GA
I had this same GPS prior to buying this one, but after giving mine to one of my children, I decided to replace it with the exact same model. For all the features, the price was excellent. And the buying experience was great. I called a sales rep with a few questions, and the rep helped me place my order over the phone. The experience was wonderfully helpful and smooth. The GPS was on my door step in 2 days. I'm very pleased with both the product and the help.

Buy.com customer support stated unit could be returned at customer expense plus a 15% restocking fee. A new unit with current maps and a full warranty can be purchased for about the price as this unit plus the map update.

    1 of 5 Worst GPS i came across Tuesday, October 21, 2008
    khan from Erie,PA
I bought this REFURB unit a week ago,Caus i lost my gps on a trip to NY, I thought this would be a good deal as i heard so much good about this unit, but it turned rather unpleasant, this is the worst GPS unit i have ever used, I took it to a trip in PIttsburgh PA, and it never took me to the location where i want to, At once at I279 where there was no left turn for next 15 miles it asked me to take a left on the expresway where it never existed, The POI database is the worst of all, I searched for Bank of America in Pittsburgh PA, it took me two different places and at none of the places there was bank of america i drove almost 50 miles for that, One of the addresses was 300 Waterfront drive , Pittsburgh PA, when i went there there was nothing but a empty place nothin in its surroundings, Thereis no information about the MAPS that are currently on it i mean what date, Few times my GPS failed to respond the screen froze many a times, got to reboot it to make it work, Was a total waste buying this thing, was looking for Mastero 4040 , but it was eventually sold out, when i googled around i found that both 3140 and 4040 are similar only differing in their screen size, but its not it, its a total loss deal to me,.

5 of 5 Great product, but you might want a different moun Sunday, October 19, 2008
    lc from warrenton, va
I have had a number of Garmin nav systems and love them. But I tried this inexpensive refurbished Magellan because my very first Garmin (an expensive $1200 when I bought it a couple of years ago) kept failing from simple power adapter problems. I could either keep buying new adapters or just get a new, inexpensive nav system, so I opted for this refurbed Magellan. I found I prefer the way Magellans navigate, but I prefer Garmin for the way you can search for POIs and route trips. Either one is fine, though. All the features on this product are great, although there's too much background noise when driving for the bluetooth/cellphone function to be useful. For the money, this was an awesome product. While I haven't had it long, it seems to be working great. I did have one problem, though. When I ordered it, I wasn't sure if the mount was included, so I bought a mount separately on buy.com. When the nav system arrived, it did have a mount, but it didn't work AT ALL. it would NOT stick to the windshield, and i suspect it wasn't the original equipment. a few days later, the mount arrived. it was not the same as the mount that came from the system (if i had to guess, the one that i ordered separately from buy.com was the OEM). that mount sold separately worked just fine.

1 of 5 OUT OF DATE MAPS Wednesday, October 15, 2008
    nem0 n00ne from NY, NY
BE AWARE the maps on this unit are not current. According to Magellan's website current maps are version 31; this unit is version 27. Magellan wants $80 plus shipping for new maps. Since this unit is refurbished, Magellan will not provide the free update they would on a new unit. If you can live with the older maps, it works fine.

4 of 5 The best text to speech available Monday, October 13, 2008
    Sam from Charlotte, NC
I had used TomTom 6 and iGuidances 4 on my Dell Axim X50v and Mio C310x for over a year. After owning my M3140, I will give them away to my friends and relatives for free! I have the Magellan Maestro 3140 for a few days now. It has got all the features that I wanted from a GPS product. Very fast lock to satellites, very easy to use, it announces most of the turns with the Text-To-Speech feature, the POIs are easily accessible, AAA Tourbook features are great too. It has the "Zip code" address entry that makes life a lot easier as compared with Garmin Nuvi each address entry for routing you can choose the type of routing you want, i.e. "fastest", "shortest", "mostly use highway", and "least use highway", previous destinations can be edited with names and saved in the "address book" and "favorites". My 1st complaint with the M3140 is that it did not come with an AC travel charger and the map came outdated and the upgrade DVD is almost the price of the M3140 itself. My second complaint was the POIs were not very updated - you cannot find "Samsclub" which was treated as "Wal-mart". There are many Samsclub, Wal-mart, Costco, Best Buy, Circuit City, ... store addresses and shopping mall addresses available online. Magellan really needs to spend sometime on updating the POIs. Overall, I am very satisfied with the $99 purchase.

    4 of 5 Expensive Tuesday, August 26, 2008
    Amit from Malvern, PA
Its a good GPS device, except for the few cons I've observed - 1. Slow to get an initial satellite fix (getting out of parking lot is going to take you some time). 2. Route recalculation (if you miss a turn) is slow. 3. Screen is not bright enough to be viewed easily on sunny days. 4. Many of the POIs do not exist any more. You might land up nowhere trying to get to a restaurant. 5. This is the biggest dis-advantage - maps are more than a year old. New maps are expected to be out by September 2008 and will cost you $70+. Add that to the cost of buying the GPS. Trust this should make you more aware.

    5 of 5 What a breeze to operate. Monday, July 28, 2008
    A Customer from Albuquerque, NM
Received this on a Friday and that evening it was directing me around town. I hardly read the directions. Then I used it on a trip to Colorado. It gave me some strange directions a few times, but it always got me to the destination. The only downside is getting the unit to attach to the window mount. This is a great unit for $150.00

5 of 5 Refurbished? Just like new Friday, June 06, 2008
Jerry from South County, Rhode Island
I was a little reluctant about buying refurbished, but I convinced myself that these low-end GPS units are virtually disposable these days; so $150.00 is all I wanted to spend. I'm extremely pleased with the unit; it looks and works like new, you would never know it was ‘refurbished’. It quickly locks on to satellites; Text-to-speech is a great feature, although quality of the sound when using the cell phone/Bluetooth speaker phone feature leaves a lot to be desired. As far as navigation goes, it already found a shortcut a couple of miles from my house that I hadn’t discovered in 10 years! Going on our first road trip with it this weekend to the Finger Lakes region of NY; next month we will take it to use in the rental car when we tour the Northwest, Seattle, and Idaho. This unit will pay for itself in saved gas & time. I love it! I’m going to purchase the extended 1yr warranty for $20 because I’ve read that the Magellan customer service is very poor; so if this thing dies after 90 days, I will deal with the warranty people about getting the unit replaced and not have to contend with Magellan support. Great unit, I'm taking 1 star away from performance for the Bluetooth speaker quality - it's pretty much unusable as a speaker phone.

THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST GPS I'VE OWNED TO DATE, AND I'VE OWNED SEVERAL. IT ACQUIRES SATELLITES IN A BLINK AND EVEN WORKS IN THE BASEMENT OF MY HOME. THE AAA TOURBOOK IS A GREAT FEATURE AND WAS THE SELLING POINT FOR ME. THE 4.5 MILLION POI's IS ALSO A PLUS
